Largest Nurse Strike in NYC History, Nearly 15,000 Walking Off the Job

Thousands of nurses at several major New York City hospitals have gone on strike. The strike began on Jan. 12, 2026, the morning after negotiations through the weekend failed to yield a breakthrough. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined the nurses and urged a return to negotiations.
