Selena Gomez On Working With Julia Michaels + More!

2015 album, Revival, of course, Rare is hours from being released. How would you compare Rare to Revival? You change, I mean. That's like, you know, saying, what were you like from 20 to 25? There's so much that happens, and yeah, it's a lot. I mean, yes, I feel like it's not better, but it's a piece of work that I think is better. And you can tell I've evolved, so that's good. And when you're working on an album, do you have a go-to person, friend, whoever it is, that you play songs to to get their reaction? Normally, sometimes. I think with this album, I purposefully didn't in the beginning. I am very, you know, when it comes to my friends, I can be, you know, oh, okay, so if you don't, then I won't, or, you know, get tear in my head about it. So I didn't until towards the end. And then, of course, I played it for my best friend, and I played some of it for a few other friends, and that was it. Like, I didn't want anyone else to chime in. Gotcha. All right, well, some things we don't need to know, and there it is. So there's that. Another song from Rare called, and I heard a snippet of this earlier when we were doing our little walkthrough. This one stuck with me. Fun. Give me some details on fun. So I work with Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter all the time. They're my people. So it was funny. We were creating the album, and Julia was on tour, and she would come back and forth, and she worked on, you know, with me and Justin throughout all of it. And Julia and I tend to be super emotional, so when we write, we kind of start writing things that, you know, are a bit gut-wrenching or something. I mean, it's just in our nature. That's why we get along so well. But we knew that that was something we did, and I came in, and, you know, my label, a few other people are like, okay, like, now we need, we should do something that's, like, fun. Like, what's fun in your life? And I looked at Julia, and she was just like, let's just name the song Fun. I was like, okay. So the whole objective of the song was me being a little bit free-spirited and excited to, you know, kind of flirt again and get back in there, you know? Yeah. All right, let's go to the track Crowded Room. What a, there's another, ooh, that. Thoughts on Crowded Room, Selena? So this is, I think this is a very sweet song. And I was telling a few of my friends, I'm always talking, so I'm telling my friends. But I have this couple, this couple friend, and they're married, and they're really, really, they're so great together, and it's such a great example of a healthy relationship. But one of the cutest things that they do, they have to go to a lot of social gatherings. And, you know, it can be hectic, and you're going and talking here, you're talking here, and basically the whole night, you're just focusing on other people. But every now and then, you know, they kind of made a deal where if you just make eye contact from across the room, you just do this, and that means you're my number one. And I thought that was really, really cute. And this song kind of feels, I mean, for me, it would feel like a pretty fun couple song where you just be with whoever you're with and kind of jam to it. It's like, I don't know, that's what I picture I want to do with no one I'm dating right now. I kind of like that, just hold the one finger up, and that says everything.
