Eastington (GL10 area, near Stroud) has a rich history as an ancient manorial settlement, evolving from a woodland farming area with river trade, centered around Eastington Manor (moated, with remnants near the church) and Churchend, with medieval origins. Its fortunes changed with industry (wool mills, Stroudwater Canal) and grand houses like Eastington Park, home to influential families involved in commerce and local life, including friends of Dr. Jenner and W.G. Grace, before the M5 significantly altered its landscape.
