Who wouldn't want to build a Viking Shield? I really enjoyed this project and had a great time learning about Viking Shields, Viking Armament, and Norse history. It was interesting to learn that softwoods were often used and that the thickness was usually around 1/2 inch (13mm). My shield was 31" in diameter and weighed 9.7LBS
