Hello everybody. Hi guys, welcome back to our channel. Home is where our heart is. I am Dane.
I'm Selly. Today we're going to teach you how to make some homemade cough syrup. Homemade cough
syrup made from beautiful natural ingredients. Yes, we're using pine needles. Have you ever had
pine needle cough syrup before? Pine needle cough syrup. Delicious. Mixed with ginger and lemon and
honey because nature can provide all we need. Yes, so come with us and we'll show you how to make it.
Welcome back home. Home is where our heart is. For this recipe you're going to need a bunch of pine
needles, some lemon, some honey and some ginger. Step one, the jar that you're going to have your
cough syrup in, fill it up with water to about halfway and then I'm going to use about a knob
of ginger because I really really love ginger. Ginger is a fantastic plant, antibacterial, antiviral,
anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants. It can relieve and suppress the symptoms of coughing.
It's even been shown to bring natural pain relief because of its potent anti-inflammatory properties.
Pour your half jar of water in the pan and add in your lovely ginger. I'm going to boil it all up
to infuse the ginger with the water. Now these pine needles are from the red pine and not all
pine is edible so if you want to learn how to identify edible pines and everything about the pine
then be sure to check out our guide to pine video that'll pop up at the end of this video. So let's
chop up our pine and we want to fill about half of the jar. Now pine makes a great addition to cough
syrups because it's rich in vitamin C and vitamin A plus it's antibacterial and expectorant.
Expectorant means to help loosen mucus within our chest so it's easier to cough it up. Pine has also
been shown to help respiratory infections such as coughs, asthma and bronchitis. After this has
been boiling for a minute bring it over to your jar and add to your pine needles all the water
and the ginger. That's all going to infuse in there until it comes down to room temperature.
So now this is cooled down back to room temperature you'll see that the pine needles
have lost a lot of their colour and this means that they've given a lot of what they've got
to this water infused with pine needles and ginger. So you simply filter out the juice
squeeze out all the last bits of juice dispose of that then add that back to your jar.
Ginger and pine. Now we're going to add the juice of one lemon. We're using lemon because it helps
to preserve the syrup with its citric acid. Lemon is rich in vitamin C antioxidants and has strong
antibacterial properties. Then fill up the rest of your jar to the top with honey. Now honey,
the beautiful sweet delicious honey has long been used as a remedy for coughs and colds for thousands
of years.
And there we have it. Homemade cough syrup. Homemade cough syrup made with pine, ginger,
lemons and honey. Taste test. Taste test time. Yes very good. Cough syrup. Wow so good. Oh my god
guys do try this at home because it's so easy. It's amazing. It's so nice to do something that's
protect you. I can really feel that freshening up my airways and boosting my chest health.
This cough syrup can last for two to three weeks in the fridge. If you haven't used it all by then
you can put it into little ice cube trays and freeze it and take it out as and when you need
it. The pine tree. The pine is one of the main ingredients in this because it's almost forgotten
the powers of the pine. Power of the pine. It's really good for these homemade cough medicines
and it's evergreen so it's available all year round. If you don't have all these ingredients
of course they're all slightly optional. You can take one out and add them in. Yeah have an
experiment. Experiment in the kitchen. You can add things like garlic into cough syrup. You could
just use pine. Just use garlic. Just use honey and lemon if that's what you've got. Honey and lemon
that's what such an old school recipe isn't it that's been around for centuries. When you buy
cough syrup in the shop that is honey and lemon. Honey and lemon.
