Vikings in the Museum!

Harlowdin Welcome Is it the Professor or is it not Well it is the Professor but today we 're here in Northampton Museum And we're having a day where several schools will come along and visit with the Vikings Now Viking as you know I'm sure means landing And here we have a funeral boat for a warrior who has died to go on that final journey to Valhalla as we call it And he takes with him everything he needs for the journey to the Halls of the Ever Young where he can feast forever Sounds like a good party to me It does sound good doesn't it So he takes his shields because they fight there as well just for fun Great Viking life really So he's also got some jewellery He doesn't know he might have to pay certain djinns or imps or monsters that beset him and assail him on the way He's got his armor because he might like to fight forever and to feast forever He's got drinking cups and drinking horns And he's going to have a high old time in Valhalla Have a good look at these objects See what you think of them Are they like the things you use every day Because these are the things your ancestors used if you had Viking ancestors In the name of the gods we hail Odin We say Harl Harl Odin The English of course are still saying it Every day when we say Harl we shorten the old prayer to the leader of the gods e father of the gods Odin Har Have fun exploring history We look forward to seeing you again soon Goodbye for now Goodbye Professor
