Hunting Bow vs Target Bow at 100 Yards – Accuracy Test!

A hundred yard shoot off today we're going to put to rest is a hunting bow as accurate as a target
bow at this distance. The bows that we're going to use for this comparison is the Hoyt Concept X40
and the RX9 Ultra. This target bow is the bow that I've been using the whole season.
I've recently just put on some new strings. I've done a lot of shooting with this bow.
This bow is torque tuned. Everything is perfect on this bow and this RX9 Ultra is my hunting
bow of choice and this is set up unlike the other videos a complete hunting rig. We've got the quiver
on. We've got 6.5 millimeter eastern bow hunter arrows. These arrows are not high end arrows but
we are going to put this to the test at this long distance. We've got hunting stabilizers. I prefer
a stabilizer that's a little bit longer that helps me with my aiming if I walk and stalk and I want
to shoot longer distances. I prefer this setup. The only thing that I might change up when I do
go hunting is the sight but at this distance I do want to give the two bows a fair comparison
in a sense and I'm still going to use a magnification in my sight at this 100 yard test
and this will just help me aim a little bit better, help me execute a little bit better. It'll
give me a fair comparison and it'll give us a real battle of the bows. The target bow that I'm using
I've got a Freak Show Rest, the Axial Achieve Sights, I've got the Axial AX31 Scope, the Smackdown
Bars by Conquest and then I've got 16 ounces at the back, 18 ounces in the front and I'm
obviously using the Eastern Pro II arrows. These arrows are amazing arrows at the longer distances
and for today's test I think this will do us justice. The wind is blowing and this is what
these arrows are made for. Shooting at longer distances, cutting through the wind and giving
us good grouping. Let's see if that is the case. We can't change days. It is what it is. We've got
the wind and it's swirling but we're going to do the test. It's going to be a fair test,
a fair comparison. A hundred yards, we're shooting it downrange. Just see what the
grouping size is going to be. We're going to shoot six arrows out of the hunting bow,
then six out of the target bow and then we're going to do another round where we shoot six
with this bow, six with this and we're just going to compare the grouping sizes and get the result.
We are going to shoot on official World Archery target face. This is the target face that they
at the Olympics at 70 meters and we used to shoot the fit around at 90 meters. It's 12.2
centimeters. The 10, it's about four and a half inches, just over four and a half inches. The
only challenge we are facing today is the actual wind. You can see the flag up there. We've got
some gusts coming through but we need to get the video done so best we get to it. I did a warm-up
session this morning and I sighted in my bow at 100 yards. The wind was coming from left to right.
It has changed from right to left but the purpose of this video is to look at grouping sizes so I'm
just going to aim in the middle and I'm going to stick with aiming there. We're going to check
grouping sizes with both bows and this is arrow number one. That felt like a good shot. Wow and
that's way left. That is in the red left but we're going to look at grouping sizes. I'm going to keep
on aiming in the yellow but you can definitely see how the wind is pushing that arrow to go far left.
We're going to keep on aiming at the same spot. We're looking at grouping sizes.
That one is also left. It's a little bit less. The wind has died down slightly on that shot but we're
going to continue shooting with this. You can see there is at least a group that's forming on the
left hand side. It's actually going to be really nice to see how much the protuors are actually
going to move in these windy conditions. That's also with the first arrow exactly there. So the
wind is definitely picking up, dying down, picking up, dying down but it's quite amazing as the arrow
flies that you see it's actually drifting all the way. That was a nice shot. So on this final shot I
see there's no wind that's blowing. I'm guessing and I'm pretty sure this is going to go into the
yellow. We've got a camera in the front as well that will show this and that's a fresh target
so you'll see the holes. Wind's down. Let's crack it. So that shot that's in the 10. Called it.
That is where the bow was shooting in the warm-up round. I've got a 15 inch bar in the front and I
have the same at the back. I've got more weight in the front. Obviously that helped me aim more
steady and I've done that test in the previous video. Go check it out the stabilizer video.
Stabilizers do make such a massive impact on your accuracy. This was my first arrow, second,
I think third, fourth, fifth and this was my last arrow when there was actually no wind. You can see
on the flag there's no wind now. So the wind is coming and going the whole time. We're doing real
tests in real world environments and I obviously want to want to showcase my skill and this is not
quite showing my ability but it is showing the results that I actually want you guys to see.
With arrows like this 6.5 mil thick arrows that's not built for windy conditions or long distance
shooting this is the kind of result that you'll get and in my opinion all these arrows were pretty
well executed and good shots but you could see that that was moving all the way but all the way
to the left and if I were to move this this way it would have been mostly in the golden and someone
might say this is a really bad grouping. I would really like to challenge you to go to 100 yards
with a hunting rig and set up and go and shoot at 100 yards and see the grouping that you're doing
with the wind blowing and changing up all the time and while there's no wind let's give this a fair
chance and shoot six more and see if we can keep them all in the yellow. Last six arrows with the
RX9 Ultra. Initially we wanted to shoot this concept now but there's no wind and I do want to
give this bow a fair chance and see if I can put them all in the yellow at 100 yards.
So this is arrow number one. There's a nice surprise shot that's slightly low left cutting the
the yellow that's going to be left also left so maybe there is some wind blowing that I'm not
really seeing that it's blowing. The flag was picking up as I was aiming and that is left.
The flag is not moving as much but I can feel the breeze on my face and on my body and obviously
that target face has got a massive barrier at the back so I guess that's what affecting the wind from
from showing the flag that the flag's not moving. I'm just going to continue shooting to see the
grouping that was executed in the gold and that is in the gold but it's still low left. This is the
last arrow. Wind's back again. Oh it's nice and strong. It's so difficult shooting in these
conditions. It wasn't a badly executed shot but that was all the way to the left that's even in
the blue. So what we're seeing on the flag is not what we're seeing here. You can see the wind is
really coming down from the right hand side and that is affecting the arrows you know grouping
to the left. It moved that last arrow further than what I actually expected it to to move it.
I actually wanted to just aim off and compensate for the wind and stuff but we ended up deciding
we're going to stick on aiming at the yellow and just see what kind of movement we're going to get
with the arrows and what grouping size we're going to get. At the shooting range we've got this
massive backstop behind us and obviously that is having some kind of protection from the wind
and not really showing up on the flag there what we are experiencing there at the back.
When there was actual no wind at the back that is the one arrow that I shot I sort of called it
and I knew that would go in the yellow. Probably one of the cheaper arrows you can buy from Eastern
and the grouping size that we get is about six and a half inches. I'm not entirely unhappy with
this. Yes I obviously wanted a tighter grouping and in this morning session I got a better grouping
while I was practicing but six and a half inches just to compare it with the tendering
this is six and a half inches. So this here is about the size of a tendering and for any
I would say intermediate target archer this is the kind of grouping that they would be happy
with at this distance. It's time to get the Concept-X out. It's time to showcase the ability
of a target bow of high in high quality arrows and I'm hoping we're going to see a better result
with the target bow. I do want to mention with the 6.5 arrows this was my last shot
it felt like a good shot obviously that went way further than what I expected because of the wind
with three of these arrows being a one inch grouping so I've been able to execute some
good shots with some consistency there. I do believe that thinner arrow will be better will
perform better. If you do want to aim off a tip that I do want to give you is your subconscious
always wants to bring you into the ten but that is also because we keep on looking at the ten. If
you are going to aim off look and focus in the red so you can do it in practice look at the red focus
in the red shoot it in the red while the wind's not blowing and if the wind is blowing and you
want to aim off you can either aim on the yellow focus there and keep on shooting they do not want
have your dot floating here but focus in the ten remember that your subconscious will always bring
you back so that is when you aim off. If you are want to go the route of canting your bow
and moving the bubble in your actual sight remember that if the wind is coming from the right
you must cant your cam into the wind so you need to cant your cam to the right and if that is the
case your bow will shoot to the right if the wind is coming from the left you want to cant your bow
to the left and this will allow your bow to shoot to the left but what is extremely important is
spend time behind your bow and learn how much your bow is moving when you cant your bow so go on a
go to the range on an easy day when it's when there's no wind blowing bubble your bow a little
bit and see how much movement you're getting to the left and to the right the concept x40
this bow is set at 28 and a half inches it's set at 58 pounds i'm using a 420 spine pro tour arrow
with 110 grain tungsten point in the front this is shot number one it will be interesting to see
how much these arrows are going to move compared to the hunting bow we've got the arrow marks in
the target it's real world situations real circumstances so we're not changing anything
we're not editing anything this is shot number one that shot went off really nice that is to
the left as well we're gonna do shot number two that was a well executed shot very close to the
first one definitely some movement in it this bow is definitely giving me a steadier platform to aim
and the the long stabilizers do slow the movement down and it is just a nice
calm movement of the sight picture itself really mentally helping you just to execute a better
shot yeah those last shots were a little bit better there was one shot but as i executed
the bow just moved a little bit to the left with the wind so that one shot did not go off
where i wanted it to go off an interesting interesting grouping in the front let's go
have a look this is actually uh in my opinion not the best grouping but from the size of the
grouping itself it's about a six and a six and a half inch grouping just slightly bigger than the
10 exactly the same as the hunting bow the grouping of the hunting bow but what is interesting is and
this is what i suspected is if i look at the amount of movement the hunting arrow had it was
an average the furthest was about 10 inches but let's say an average of eight where the furthest
with the protrus is just under seven inches but but with an average of about four and a half
so it's almost a four inch difference in just the arrow movement so it goes to show using a
thinner diameter hunting arrow is definitely going to help you and obviously keep in mind the size of
the fletches and all of those things will also have an impact but we've got six more to go with
the target arrows and the target bow let's give it a go round number two this is the first shot
of our final six that one's slightly low the scope that i'm using that's a new addition to my gear
it's the hawk nature trek 9 to 27 nice and small about the size of my hand i actually really like
this when traveling and especially when we're going to go hunting with the new gear that's
coming out soon this will be a nice one to carry around and so on nice little product that was a
good shot shot number three this is the final arrow of the last six of round number two that
one's going to be a little bit low a little bit frustrated to be honest with you but it is what
it is you know we did not have a plan b plan b was to stick with plan a we're going to stick
with the weather with the wind let's go downrange an interesting result in the grouping here
this arrow i shot when there was absolutely no wind i actually also knew like i did with the
hunting bow that that would be in the gold in essence you could clearly see that the
the the target arrows have got less wind drift and i'm going to remove this one like i did
with the with the hunting bow and this actual grouping here is is less than five inches
and five inches is this is four and a half inches so this is about the size of the ten ring there
i'm happy with this kind of grouping less wind drift on these arrows that the hunting arrows
had more more wind drift the grouping size was a little bit bigger and from the 10 ring there
with the hunting arrow all the way here you could see that was at least that's a foot grouping so
you could clearly see from the most extreme grouping size with the hunting arrows versus
the target arrows that the target arrows are well worth it going to a thinner diameter arrow
will be well worth it on your hunting setup of the 24 arrows that i've shot it's about a foot
grouping and that's with two different bows completely different setups not entirely happy
with it i do want to challenge you to go to 100 yards shoot this let me know if you're shooting
a better group that i am i'm sure you will and if you aren't just give me a thumbs up and said
you enjoy the video leave a comment down below i really appreciate it please like and subscribe
and i'm looking forward to catching you on the next one
