We are a family that loves skiing and we decided to share a gift of the mountains with our kids!
This video is about Adia's skiing progression from the age of 1 year old, when she was just a toddler to 5 years old!
As a dad, it is my job to be there for kids and guide them through the challenges, and I just love how skiing is something that we can do together as a family!

I can do this daddy because I got stronger. Yeah because how much stronger are you? A lot stronger?
Yeah. How's it going? How are you guys doing? Good. Nice to meet you Adia, finally.
I taught all three of our kids how to ski shortly before they could walk.
Why? Because I'm a dad who loves skiing and I wanted to share the gift of the mountain with
my kids as early as possible. In this video we're going to follow the progression of Adia
learning to ski from age one to age five. She's our daughter, the youngest of three.
Let's start at the beginning.
At age one, Adia is still very much a baby. I started off introducing the plastic funny ski
boots inside the house to get familiar. Our first few sessions were outside in the front yard.
At this stage, all I want is for her to associate being on skis with having good times. Later on
this winter, Adia learned to snow plow and stomp on her own before her second birthing.
Do a pizza. Big pizza. Yeah! That was a pizza stomp.
We're a little busy. Go to mommy. Is that mama? At age two, this is where the lower
mountain chairlifts at Fernie Alpine Resort were able to provide more elevation and longer
runs than the bunny hill. And we were also able to visit the tree trails 278 times.
This allowed Adia to get extremely comfortable with the terrain and to know almost every curve
and bump and whoop-de-doo on the trail. And this also happened to be the same winter where I put a
microphone on her to capture a lot of her pep talks and self-narration as she navigated the
trees and obstacles in the forest. And the internet absolutely loved it. This was the
winter where Adia went viral on Instagram first, where the world fell in love with hearing her
positive self chat. Well you try you try three turns all by yourself.
At age three, Adia continued gaining miles on the slope. This is the age and the stage where
she became a lot more independent. It's also the season where she started doing more park features
like boxes on her own. I want to quickly let you know that I do have a how to teach your kids to
ski playbook available for purchase. This is where I shared my approach to how I taught our kids how
to ski with little to no tears. Lots of joy, lots of fun, and in the playbook I just lay it out there.
I share my perspective, my mindset, and give some practical tips on how you can ensure you set your
kids up for success their first few times on snow. I'll leave a link to that playbook down below in
the description, and if you or somebody you know is teaching a little one to ski in your life,
I'm confident that playbook will add value and make things a little easier your first time out
on snow. At age four, I'm still prioritizing having fun while being on snow. A four-year-old
child is still a really little human, and I do my best to remember that. But she's also becoming
more resilient and can handle longer days on the snow. This is no longer Adia's first rodeo,
she's getting very familiar with all of the terrain. At the end of her fourth winter skiing,
Adia is able to carry more speeds, link some turns, and just started to look a lot more like a skier.
At the time of this video, it's currently December 2023. It's the start of Adia's
fifth winter season on snow, and she's only five years old. I'm not sure exactly what's
going to happen this winter, but I do know we're likely going to get up to some adventures
that come along with some smiles and laughs, and there might even be some sprinkled tears in there
and some frustration. And I know that it's my job as a parent and as a dad to be present, to be able
to mentor and guide our kids through some of those challenges. And I just love how skiing and the
sport of skiing is something we get to do together with our kids, and there's so many transferable
life skills like resilience and grit and risk management, and just confidence that our kids
are learning that are going to be transferable to other areas in life, no matter what they grow up
and end up doing. My name is Eric. I'm a dad who documents our family's outdoor adventurous
lifestyle here in British Columbia. If you like the sounds of that, hit the subscribe button to

own soon. Thanks for watching. See you next video.
