
Lake Effect Snow Blankets NY; Officials Work to Identify Fire Victims | NTD Good Morning (Jan. 2)
More snowfall is expected in parts of New York state, with lake-effect snow hitting parts of the state. Officials warn of hazardous travel expected through Saturday. The snowfall rates are expected to be intense, especially near the Great Lakes. Forecasters say some areas could see another foot of snow by the end of the week.
In Switzerland, investigators are working to identify the burned bodies of victims after a blaze tore through a crowded bar in the Swiss Alps. The fire killed about 40 people, most of them, according to officials were young people. Officials also said that due to the severity of burns, identifying victims could take days. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Violence is escalating in Iran, as protests over economic conditions are spreading across the country, leaving 7 people reportedly dead. According to the Iranian government, the inflation rate in December rose to over 42% from the same period the previous year. During that same time, food prices rose by more than 70%, and medicines by up to 50%.
