Stars Amanda Seyfried (Nina Winchester) and Sydney Sweeney (Millie Calloway) ask each other questions about filming their upcoming movie ‘The Housemaid’.
Hi, I'm Sydney Sweeney.
And I'm Amanda Seyfried.
And we are going to be answering some questions for Fandango about The Housemaid.
So, why do you want this job?
I just really enjoy being a housemaid.
For the right families?
Of course.
You know this is a live-in position, right?
Ta-da! This is your room.
What do you think?
It's perfect.
Okay, good.
You go first.
Okay.
What was it like preparing for this character?
And what's the most surprising, strange thing you did to get ready for the role?
I don't think I did anything strange or out of the norm for me.
I don't know how I prepared.
God, this is hard.
I don't know how I prepared for it.
I tried to kind of talk through it with you and with Brandon and with Paul.
Because there was different points at which I turned.
So, it was just really mapping out where Nina was.
What costume did you wear that helped you find the character the most?
You know, I really came to life in a...
Well, Millie always wears the same big, huge jacket.
It's like the brown secondhand leather jacket that she thrifted.
So, I felt like whenever I put that on, I felt the most Nina.
I mean, mostly.
Yeah.
Who am I?
Okay.
In a previous interview, you mentioned that playing unhinged is delicious and fun.
Did I say that?
Why is it so much fun?
It's just funny and it's empowering and satisfying to go off the rails.
To, like, let your energy out in a way that's just ridiculous.
Like, nothing was too ridiculous on this movie.
So, I just felt the freedom that, you know, Paul was just like, go for it.
And when you hear that from him, you're just like, okay, I guess I can just kind of do anything.
And it's fun.
What scene was the hardest to get through without laughing?
Even though it wasn't supposed to be funny.
Oh, I feel like there was a scene that I would keep laughing and I can't remember.
There were a few.
The one when I was coming down the steps and you guys were standing there.
Oh, my God.
We could not stop.
All of us were dying.
It was ridiculous.
All of us were dying.
And then you tried to slap me.
Oh, my God.
Okay.
Book Talk is going crazy for this movie.
What are you most excited for Book Talk fans to experience from this film?
I'm excited for Book Talk fans to experience everything we were able to enhance from the best parts about the book to the movie.
It's become multi-dimensional in a way that isn't in the book.
And that's why we make movies out of good books.
And I feel like these Book Talk fans are just going to fall in love with these characters even more and see a whole new side of it.
And it's just exciting because I think we made it better.
Which is ideally the point.
What was it like working with Brandon Sklenar who plays Andrew in the film?
It was a lot of fun.
I think that it was really cool seeing him play a character that's so vastly different from his show that he does.
And kind of put him in a completely different mindset.
And I don't think the audience has ever seen him play a character like this.
Which is cool.
And he's fun.
You see that twist.
Yeah.
He did some pretty cool stuff in this.
Terrifying.
Yeah.
Alright.
What was your favorite note that director Paul Feig gave you on set?
I think just get so close to her that you might kiss her.
I thought you were going to kiss me.
Yeah.
It was so fun.
I was like, okay.
I got a little excited on the inside.
God, I love those notes.
Okay, we see a dollhouse in the movie that's not from the book.
What does the dollhouse signify?
It signifies Andrew's idea of a perfect home.
I'm not getting that deep because I don't want to give away too much.
And also I don't know the full answer to this.
Yeah.
That's a trick one.
What's the one household chore you hate doing the most and love doing the most?
I really hate anything with dishes.
Yep.
I love sweeping.
I also have a full barn that I have to clean.
That's fine.
And it's so satisfying.
It's so sweet.
I didn't used to be able to do it, but now I know how to do it without hurting my back.
What were your first impressions upon entering the Winchester Mansion?
I remember when we first drove through the gates.
I was like, this looks exactly what I imagined when I read the book.
Really?
Yeah.
I thought it was just like...
I've never seen a house quite like it before.
It felt like it was out of a storybook tale, but also haunting.
And then you walk inside and it's a complete different vibe than you even think.
And there's so many rooms that are all spread out and they're all so vibrant.
Oh, yeah.
It was really cool.
Like the kids' rooms had...
The kids' rooms were so much bigger.
They're so cool.
They had a big room and then one had a ladder that then went up into a loft.
That was cool.
I know.
Yeah.
I coveted those rooms.
That was really cool.
Will the cast of The Housemaid and Paul do well on Family Feud together?
Oh.
Will we?
Did we do it yet?
No, we haven't shown it yet.
I don't know.
Have we shot it yet?
Yeah, we shot it.
No, we didn't.
Maybe we did.
Maybe we didn't.
Do we win?
We don't know.
If you had your own screening room, what movie would be on repeat?
Mamma Mia.
I just would dance around and sing.
Anything?
How do you reset after an emotionally exhausting scene?
Oh.
I either take a nap or crochet.
I'm sure I was taking a nap.
No, I don't drink alcohol on set.
Um.
Let's play.
Okay.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
Let's play rapid fire.
Red flag, green flag when dating someone.
Oh, God.
Okay.
Yeah.
I got it.
Okay.
Honestly, I've been learning that I like a circus, just a bunch of red flags.
Okay.
Well, we'll see.
Okay.
Red flag, green flag.
A, cares deeply about the cleanliness of his house.
Green flag.
Okay.
B, wants to share phone locations.
Red flag.
I also understand, like, if I'm traveling a lot.
Okay.
Red flag.
No.
Red flag.
C, wants you to always look your best.
Red flag.
Look or feel.
This is why you need a good girlfriend in your life.
Look or feel.
Feel your best.
Feel the best.
Green flag.
Look your best.
Red flag.
Okay.
Sentimental with family heirlooms.
Green flag.
Yes.
Close with his mom.
Green flag.
Yes.
So, basically, Andrew was a green flag.
I get it.
Oh.
I understand.
In the film, when he makes a delicious chicken piccata.
If we're coming over to your house for dinner, what's your signature dish?
What are you going to make me?
Me?
Yeah.
I'm not going to cook anything.
I don't do that.
Oh, you know what I can do?
I can do a really good Annie's mac and cheese.
Because I don't use milk in it.
I just do a lot of boiling water with the cheese, and then I whip it up.
And then I put it on the noodles.
It's not wet.
It's pretty dry, but it tastes great.
I only eat Kraft mac and cheese.
You should try Annie's actual.
I don't know.
I mean, it's organic, they say.
What songs would be on your character's playlist?
I don't know.
I'm so bad at this song question.
I think Pink would be on your character's playlist.
Pink?
Yeah.
I could see that.
Because she's not.
Millie's all over the place.
Millie's randomly going to the grocery store.
Broadway shows.
Yeah, Brafra.
Braqua.
Why'd I make that up?
Brava.
