The tea ceremony is known as chanoyu, or sado, in Japanese. It is a ceremonial way of preparing and drinking matcha.
Matcha, originally from China, was brought by monks and drunk to help keep them awake during meditation the 12th century.
Matcha is a high-grade green tea ground into powder which is prepared by pouring hot water and whisking.
