There was a whole thing where my son was on Twitch
and we were just like, you know, saying hi, whatever.
You're saying, hi Mariah, I love you.
Oh my God.
Hi Mrs. Carey.
Can y'all please get out?
Everybody was like, oh, she's embarrassing her kids.
And they're eye rolling at you guys.
Mom.
Well, there's no two ways about it.
She's the biggest recording artist on the planet right now.
She's bigger than-
Thank you.
I haven't finished yet.
She's bigger than Beyonce, bigger than Taylor Swift.
She's bigger than...
I think just behind the Beatles in chart success, it's Mariah Carey.
Yes, I mean.
What a treat.
Before we go any further, Mariah and I have history.
Well, hold on a minute because I witnessed the lovely hello
that just happened as Mariah came into the studio.
So you've worked with Jamie for what, maybe sort of what, 25 years ago?
Hi, I'm Mariah Carey and I love Jamie.
But he did tell me to say that.
I'm working on a project right now, but it's very hush hush.
I can't tell you because we're being filmed.
It was a while ago.
And what are your memories of working with our JT?
Your JT is a funny guy.
He's very fun.
When we did that interview, you said that you would have me in one of your videos.
And I'm still waiting for that.
Just saying, it could happen.
Maybe at Christmas?
Now we're talking.
Now listen, we've got a lot to cover.
I feel like because we go back way, I want to find out who the real Mariah Carey is.
We hear a lot of myths, a lot of stories.
Well, you're not going to find that out from myths and stories.
Well, we can debunk some, can't we?
We can definitely debunk them today.
Do you know what one of my favourites is?
When you arrive at a restaurant, you demand that your music is playing.
Not demand, but sometimes they'll just play it.
Yes, I like that.
You'll only stay in hotel rooms with gold taps.
You know, like in the bathroom.
Yeah.
So if you only have gold tips...
Taps.
Oh, taps, yeah.
It could be tip tap, whatever.
Tip taps.
Mariah, you performed at Brighton Pride last weekend.
Yes.
You absolutely smashed it.
Thank you.
I mean, talk about a Mariah show.
Just tell me a little bit about the preparation and the rehearsals.
It was a lot of rehearsing.
And then we had a wardrobe malfunction, which was kind of not cool.
And it was right in the front of the area of the front.
Oh, no.
I saved it.
Nobody saw it.
Otherwise, it would have been, you know, talked about.
Nobody saw it.
Good.
And then I turned around and walked through the dancers.
And I was so mad.
You were?
Oh, no.
That doesn't sound like you.
Well, I can get mad sometimes.
You're allowed to get mad.
You get angry.
There was another moment in the crowd where that happened.
That particular moment, I think, where you're getting your hair and makeup done.
And the camera then pans out to the crowd.
And Alan Carr is there getting this huge celebration.
Do you know him?
Yeah, I've met him before, I guess.
Yeah, he's a national treasure.
You have got a show coming up week on Friday at Sandringham.
It's the King's, like, country retreat.
Yeah.
So I don't want any wardrobe malfunctions there.
Well, neither do I.
No.
Presumably, he's going to be there, right?
Yeah.
That'll be cool.
Would you like to meet him?
Yeah, I think that would be amazing.
It's been seven years since your last album.
Yes.
Just what have you been doing?
What's been keeping you busy over the last seven years?
I've been making a new album.
Right.
Tell us about it.
Yeah.
So it's called Here For It All.
And I got the name because it's the last song on the album.
It's called Here For It All.
And I just wanted to make sure people listen to it because I love it.
And there's a couple of collaborations on that album.
Who, I mean, we've obviously heard from Shenzi and Kaylana.
That's on Sugar Sweet.
Yeah.
Are there any other collaborations on the album?
There is a collaboration with Anderson .Paak.
And we did a duet.
And it's one of my favorite songs.
Wow.
Yeah.
I haven't said this yet to anybody.
So, hi, here we are.
What was he like to work with?
He's really, really talented.
Now, the other thing that's been keeping you busy,
you've got two kids, Rock and Row.
Talk me through the names.
Oh, it's a long story.
When they were first born.
But I don't have time for this story.
Do you ever embarrass them?
Do they ever get embarrassed by you?
There was a whole thing where my son was on Twitch.
Oh, yeah.
And I walked into the room with my daughter.
And we were just like, you know, saying hi, whatever.
Y'all need to get out now.
Just everybody get out.
Mom, they can see you.
They're saying, hi, Mariah.
I love you.
Oh, my God.
Hello, Mrs. Carey.
Hi, Mrs. Carey.
Can y'all please get out, please?
Yes, please.
Hey, Mrs. Carey.
The video from this thing kind of took off
because everybody was like, oh, she's embarrassing her kids.
And they're all rolling out.
You go, mom, so cringey.
I want to talk about Christmas.
Let's do it.
As a child, you adored Christmas.
It's the best.
I love it so much.
And now when I talk about it, everyone's like,
oh, of course she's going to say that.
But it's true.
I love anything Christmas related.
Here's the thing, though.
When is it too early to play Christmas songs?
You got to start on November 2nd.
You've gone quite early there.
Oh, no, November 2nd.
Because, you know, people start doing it.
And if they're going to do it, then I might as well do it.
Right.
Is that when the traditions start in the Carey household?
Yes.
What are the traditions that you carry through November, December?
What do you do to celebrate Christmas?
Santa Claus comes to the house in Aspen.
And he talks us through what we did this year.
And I know you think I'm making this up, but it's true.
OK, I don't think you're making it up.
Well, do you know what?
Unfortunately, we've run out of time.
But it's lovely to have you with us.
Lovely to be here.
The world wouldn't be a worse place without you in it.
Will you please say a huge thank you to Mariah Carey?
Thank you.
Thank you, Mariah.
