Remember like over a month ago
When I was gonna give you a birthday present that I never did. Yeah
That is so cool. What's up guys? I'm Sam. This is Sam's designs, and I haven't uploaded in over a month
I'm really sorry for the huge delay guys. I've been super busy with working 40 hours a week and
This is the biggest project I have ever tackled on this channel seriously
It took over a month to make hundreds of hours of work into it over 25 gigabytes of footage
So yeah, this was a huge undertaking, and I'm really hoping people get something out of it
I'm really enjoy it so if you could share comment like subscribe
Whatever you can do to help spread this video would be greatly appreciated so without further ado. Let's get started
so the first step for this project is to visit the thingiverse link in the description and
Download all the files from there
and there's a link to a
Spreadsheet that I created where you put in some measurements for the target person for the shield and it spits out the scale to print
Each piece at so go ahead and download those and put them at the correct scale while you're doing that
Visit the Amazon link in the description and buy all the parts. They're all needed for this project
The total at time of filming is about thirty six dollars that might vary a little bit
You also need enough plywood to make the circle base for the shield and you just need to find something
That's not too splintery because you don't want the person wearing it to get slivers in their arm
So the first step for this project is to cut your wooden circle to the correct dimensions
And there's legitimate ways to cut a circle
But I don't have the money for any of those and I don't have the proper tool
so my solution was to drill two holes in a piece of wood one radius apart and
screw one down to my piece of plywood stick a pencil through the other one and
Spin it around and that scores a nice circle on the piece of wood and then just use my jigsaw to cut it through
So I went super slow to make sure that it cut super well
For reference this clip is playing at a thousand percent speed so you can see how slow I was going
So the next step once you have the wood circle cut and all the pieces printed is to screw all the pieces to the wood
If I had thought this through correctly
I would have designed it so you can put it together from the inside out so that errors wouldn't accumulate as you go
But you just have to go slow and make sure that everything lines up correctly
So that you don't get a piece in the middle that won't fit in
Each layer took me about 30 minutes to an hour if I was working quite quickly
And it should take you even less now that I've worked out all the bugs now
There's one discovery I made over the course of this project that really saved my life, and that is MH ready patch
So I included this in the Amazon list and this stuff is phenomenal for speeding up the finishing process
So my process was just to apply copious amounts over the entire thing and then once it's dry sand it down with a hundred grit
sandpaper
so once you've sanded down all the MH ready patch to the grooves you're gonna want to apply a coat of fill primer and
Then repeat the process over and over until it's super glossy smooth
Took me about five or six times of this process to get it super smooth and on the last one
I sanded all the way up to 2,000 grit sandpaper and once you've done that you're ready to paint
Next you're ready to tape off the center and the second ring
So this is for the red paint job
And the way I did this was just to lay down
Painters tape and cut it with the absolute sharpest knife I could find
The sharper the knife the better because you're just gonna have better luck with those smooth
Fine lines, and this is absolutely the most painstaking part of the project
But don't worry. It's worth it for the satisfaction of peeling the tape off later
So then I just painted it with the red spray paint
I did three layers until I was happy with it
You can do even more and when you're done, and it's dried to a tacky finish
Then you're gonna want to peel off the tape and this is so satisfying
Then you're gonna repeat this process for the blue layer
And I used a garbage bag to save on painters tape for this
I just cut a hole in the center and taped off the detail lines and
that saved me from using a whole bunch of tape to cover all the outside rings and
For the last painting step you're gonna want to use silver to complete the last ring and the star and
I was least happy with this part of the project because the glossy silver really reveals all the imperfections
But I think I could have done it better by using just a little bit more ready patch and maybe doing a few more coats
So I'd recommend doing that
So the last step for this project is to attach the handle and the arm piece to the shield
And I made this for my little brother's birthday
So I just had him stick his arm right in it and screwed the pieces down right over top of him
The only thing you want to make sure of is that the star is pointing up
Because it's not gonna look good if the stars pointing in a different direction and once you're done that the project is over
Thank you guys so much for watching to this point in the video. I hope you liked it
I hope you like comment subscribe and share and stay tuned for the super cringy reveal
