Digital Edition. Happy holidays everyone and welcome to 22 News at four. I'm
Aretta Odaya. Now we'll get to your top four at four in just a moment, but
first a look at your commuter traffic and weather. We have 22 News Storm Team
Meteorologist Chris Bozak is here with us this afternoon. Chris, how are the
roads looking today? Yeah, everything's looking good, especially we're heading
out for any Christmas night travel plans. We're looking good as you look
up up and down 91 there. The Mass Pike looking great as well. 3 91 looking
good. And even if you're traveling up along Route 202 towards Belcher Town,
that looks good as well. Pretty much as much as you can see there, it is
looking great. So any evening travel plans, you're looking a okay if you're
heading out the door for any evening or overnight plans. But for right now,
let's take a live look out in Springfield. We're looking good. Sun is
starting to set. It's definitely windy. You can see that shake there on the
camera lens and also taking a live look here in Greenfield. Looking good as
well. It's cold, especially when you factor in that breeze. And speaking of
cold weather, we do have some winter weather alerts that are brand new to us,
and this is ahead of some of that snow that comes in for tomorrow night. We do
have a winter weather advisory up and down the Berkshires there and for
western Hamming County, there is likely going to be an extension onto this as
we go into tonight. So I won't be surprised. We start to see Hampshire
County and all of Hamming County get under that winter weather advisory, but
we'll keep an eye on it. But that's what we got right now. Breeze out of the
north, and you can see 18 miles per hour there in Springfield air
temperature, mostly in the thirties. We'll talk more about that snow
potential coming up for tomorrow night in the 20 storm team fat forecast in
just a moment. Thanks, Chris. A person from Needham has died after a large
four alarm fire broke out at a home on the morning of Christmas Eve. According
to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, firefighters responded to the
home at 28 Woodworth Road just before five in the morning. The fire quickly
spread, making it difficult to get under control. Around 75 firefighters
came in to assist. Two residents of the home were able to get out safely, but
one person was found dead inside. Their cause of death is still being
investigated. France, Germany, the European Union and the United Kingdom
are responding to a U. S. Decision to place visa bans on five Europeans who
is accused of leading campaigns that target misinformation online of the
five. One of them is said to have orchestrated the European Union's
Digital Services Act aimed at making the Internet safer by compelling online
platforms. The U. S. Claims that the law unfairly targets American tech
companies and citizens. The EU's executive branch, the European
Commission, warned that it would take action against any quote unjustified
measures. It said it has requested clarification from the U. S. State
Department. The commission countered that their digital rules ensure a safe
fair and level playing field for all companies. In his first Christmas Day
message, Pope Leo addressed 26,000 people as part of the traditional to
the city into the world address in ST Peter's Square. Many major conflicts
were addressed happening in places around the world, including Ukraine,
Palestine, Israel, Lebanon and Syria. He called for quote justice, peace and
stability and urged the faithful to shed indifference in the face of those
who have lost everything. The pope emphasized that everyone can contribute
to world peace with humility and responsibility. A health expert is
warning people to be careful of holiday heart syndrome. Holiday heart
syndrome is the development of cardiac rhythm disturbances or heart failures
around the holidays. Signs of the syndrome can include palpitations,
fatigue and shortness of breath. Those who have high blood pressure or
diabetes are most at risk. The American Heart Association says more people have
died between December 25th and January 1st than any other time of the year.
Experts recommend keeping salty foods and alcohol to a minimum. Now let's get
another check of today's weather. 22 new storm team meteorologist Chris
Bozakis is here. Chris, what can we expect tonight? Yeah, tonight's
looking fine. If you have any plans, you're heading out the door for this
evening. You look good. We can take a wider view here on clouds of radar.
Much of the region looking fine. That will be changing about 24 hours from
now. We're gonna be watching for some snow to come in, but for the rest of
the night, four p.m. Here going towards six p.m. Looking great heading into the
overnight hours were nice and clear. Temperatures are gonna drop likely back
to the teens, even some low twenties going through much of the day tomorrow,
going towards noon. Even three p.m. Looks fine, but clouds start to
increase, giving way to some of that light snow developing as we go into
tomorrow evening. Tomorrow night, this is eight p.m. Tomorrow night. You can
see that some snow is falling for mostly everyone on and off. Snow
continues through the overnight hours, ending on Saturday morning. So we'll
talk about the timing more. And, of course, those totals in the 20 new
storm team forecast. Tune in at five just for that. One lucky person is
waking up this Christmas morning a whole lot richer. That's after the
massive parable jackpot worth over $1.8 billion was won last night in
Arkansas. This is the only this is only the second time a jackpot has been won
on Christmas Eve. The last time was back in 2011. It's officially the second
largest in game history, with a cash option of $834.9 million. The number
one spot is still held by $2.4 billion prize won in California in 2022. Macy's
is among the major retailers that are planning to shutter shut some of their
locations starting next year. This includes Walgreens, Foot Locker and the
restaurant Red Robin. Macy's is in the process of closing 150 stores next year
as part of its bold new chapter strategy, which includes closing under
productive stores. Now for a look at what we're working on for 22 new
starting at five open pantry community services held their annual holiday
meals program in Springfield tonight. How the meals that followed helped
brighten people's day. Plus, the Holyoke Police Department dropped toys
off to Children earlier today. We'll hear from the police chief on why they
decided to give back and we'll tell you why some families have made it a
Christmas tradition to visit bright nights in Forest Park and your last
look at your traffic here again. Heading out the door, you'll find no
matter where you look, you just see green up and down 91 the mass pike
here. Even along Route 202. Everything looks good. Even as you head down to
the Connecticut, everything looks fine for any evening travel plans. So drive
safe. Merry Christmas. And again, we'll talk about more about that snow and the
accumulation on 20 news at five.
