The Terra Grappler G3 is the all new and redesigned All Terrain Tire made by Nitto and it's one that's true, 3 Mountain Peak Snowflake or what some refer to as, a 3PMS snow rated tire. In this video, you'll get to learn a bit more about some of it's features, what makes it so awesome and get a sampling of how it performs out in the slick and slippery white stuff.
For those of you who haven't seen her before, this is Rona, our 1993 Jeep YJ Wrangler,
and as you can see, these are the tires that she came with. Decent for an all-terrain,
but in my opinion, yeah, just okay in things like the snow. And while it may not look like it,
it is very much winter here, and more of the white stuff is sure to come. Needless to say,
Sydney and I decided that now would be a good time as any to try on a new set of shoes. And
as luck would have it, Nitto just came out with this. This is the all-new Terra Grappler G3,
and in addition to being an all-terrain tire, it's also a true three-peak mountain snowflake,
or what some people refer to as a 3 PMS snow rated tire. As in, it's designed to perform
really well on the slick stuff. As you can see, the G3 has an all-new tread pattern design,
full depth siping for a better grip, and it comes with an all-new rubber compound that Nitto's so
confident in. They're offering an impressive 70,000 mile warranty on hard metric sizes.
As always, it comes with a concave shoulder block design for superior off-road performance,
and two different sidewall designs. One that's a traditional simple side, and one that's a more
complicated angular side. But for our purposes, we're going to stick with the simple side out.
And being that these tires are not available in a 15-inch wheel size, we decided to buy and
install them on a brand new set of Pro Comp PA69 vintage aluminum wheels. So let's get these things
All right, that's the last of them. Now let's go test them out. Now this is the white stuff we've
been waiting for. So it's been snowing all night, and there's maybe about a good two to three inches
on the ground right now. Obviously we've driven this Jeep on dry pavement, and we've driven
in the rain, but this is the first time in the snow and kind of iciness underneath,
and it's doing surprisingly well. I just kind of wanted to see how, so right there's a little bit
of slippage. I'm purposely giving it more gas than I need, and it's still hooking up. The two-wheel
drive only, and of course this is a stick, so I could really more throttle. No traction control,
and it's still hanging in there. A little bit more gas on this curve. There we go. Now we're talking,
and it's still hooking up. All right, so you've been seeing me slip and slide a bit on
this freshly fallen snow with a little bit ice underneath. Now I'm going to stick it into four-wheel
drive and see if it makes a difference. Oh yeah, so I'm purposely using my clutch to give me a little
more spin, and in four-wheel drive with these tires, everything's hooking up. Here comes a curve.
Let me see if I can't slip the tires again.
You can see it's totally hooking up. I'm not sliding out anymore.
I have to say that I'm actually really surprised at how well these tires are doing in the snow.
They definitely want to find their grip really quickly. Even in two-wheel drive, even when I'm
trying to lose grip on the snow, it still seems to find it. It's pretty impressive. What can I say?
I am really impressed. Just as advertised, these new Terra Grappler G3s really hook up in the slick
stuff, and way better than any of the other tires that we have on any of our other Jeeps.
Now granted, we did limit our testing to just pavement around town, on the back streets, or even
on the highway where snow chains or snow tires were required, but then I think that's what most
people would want a tire like this for, and they did awesome. Overall, I'm really impressed with
how well they perform.
