Join me on an unforgettable wildlife journey deep into the heart of Jasper National Park, Alberta. We kick things off along the breathtaking Maligne Lake Road, where towering snow-crusted peaks and endless mountain ranges set the stage for an epic day in the wild.
Armed with my Canon R3 and the incredible new RF 100–300mm f/2.8 L IS, I head into the backcountry in search of moose, bald eagles, and a variety of other incredible bird species that call this pristine landscape home.
From dramatic mountain vistas to serene forest valleys, every moment is filled with the raw beauty and peaceful solitude of the Canadian Rockies. Whether you’re here for the wildlife, the adventure, or the photography, this is a trip you won’t want to miss.

It's just amazing, that was phenomenal to see those bald eagles here
distance but who cares that's just insane. So welcome back on our day three here in Jasper,
Alberta. We're on Malign Lake Road and we're going along the main highway if you like
looking for lots of mammal species. Already we've had elk and we're looking for goats and obviously
the bighorn sheep as well, maybe moose, maybe some white-tailed and maybe a late bear maybe
if we're very very lucky and maybe even moose. Also looking skyward for golden eagle and bald
eagle which are resident birds here and any other species here. They've got the American
three-toed woodpecker, they've got the black-backed woodpecker here which is an awesome species of
woodpecker and lots of other. They've got the plated as well and lots of other bird species,
boil chickadee, mountain chickadee and lots of other species like stellas, jays and all sorts
of stuff. So hopefully we'll get lucky today and we're going to get out for a walk as well,
have a look round, see what's about and hopefully we'll all get lucky. Are we excited everybody?
Yes, you cannot not be excited when you've got views like that out your window. That is just
awesome. Sadly the devastation in front of us here of all the trees that got burnt during the
wildfires which is awful to see but still life will emerge as we've said before. But yeah,
right, eyes fixed on, sky, hill, wood and hopefully we'll get lucky. Well as views go,
this is pretty spectacular and this is Medicine Lake and there's a big nest on top of one of
these conifers here, just over there and there's a bald eagle was sitting on top,
a nice adult bald eagle which is superb. But it took flight, we were quite a way off
but it likely took flight because we were approaching on this path, there's not much we
can do about it. We wanted to do a walk around the lake and it lifted and just went a bit further on
and perched up again on another tall branch. But this is quite the environment here,
there's been lots of duck on the water here, a lot of it's frozen but some of it isn't,
it's pretty spectacular. I mean look at this, it's just wonderful, absolutely awesome. I don't know
if you heard that, that sounded very much like a jay of types, not sure, could have been a mammal,
they've got like pikas here I think. Very hard to say what that was. So we've just come further
along the track on Medicine Lake and so far we've seen two bald eagles, absolutely fantastic but
they're so so twitchy. I was quite a distance away and they flew and there was another one
around the corner which I didn't see which flew and they've gone over to the opposite side of the
lake now. It just goes to show that they are pretty twitchy when it comes to humans. So
not going to chase them around the lake for sure, just going to sit here, chill out for a bit
and just observe what goes on. There's a lovely channel that goes down through the middle
which I'd imagine is where they kind of hunt through that channel that's not actually iced up
and then they hop onto the ice to feed and whatever they've caught. But lovely to see two
mature bald eagles and I managed to capture some distance slow-mo footage of them lifting off the
300. But close-up shots, who cares? In this sort of landscape is absolutely breathtaking,
just listen to that. Not a thing. Amazing. Thanks to Cameron Henry there, he's doing a really good
job filming me. So anyway, go quiet, just enjoy the scenery. Well that was phenomenal to see those
bald eagles here. Distance, but who cares? That's just insane. The fact they stay here
throughout the year and this warmer channel of water going through, it's incredible.
Hardy birds man. And two, I think possibly one full adult and one coming into adulthood but
oh just insane. So nice to see them. And what a landscape. That nest is insane. So big.
Just in the cover here feeding. Now I'm a little bit closer than I wanted to be
but it's seen me and it's quite happy. So just gonna sit here, enjoy it for a bit
and then move away and back off so we don't get in the way.
It's just amazing really. Beautiful condition, absolutely fantastic. I've taken some shots with
the Canon R3. I'll just show you. They're not award winners guys but you can see
just looking through. I'll just zoom in a little bit. Not the best but you can kind of see it there.
Awesome. Yeah, amazing to see our first moose here in Jasper. Absolutely fantastic.
Still feeding away there, not bothered. Right, we're gonna leave it, leave it be.
The far side of the lake's on quite a distance away and it's just feeding along the shoreline.
Absolutely incredible to see it here. Superb. Beautiful. It's just coming, coming out the
clearing now. Beautiful. What a wonderful looking animal. Beautiful. It's just emerging.
Oh lovely. Absolutely wonderful. Just doing its thing. Absolutely beautiful. So I had a wonderful,
wonderful few moments there with the cow moose that's just up here feeding on the salt on the
side of the roads as they often do to replace that deficiency they got in their diet, especially with
nutrition being really low here at the moment. It's just feeding away happily in a really,
really good condition. Absolutely fantastic.
So I was just saying about the main source of food here for the bears obviously when the salmon's
running is salmon along these type of rivers and I've just filmed a rather sort of ratty
looking salmon if you like. Bless it, losing a lot of its colour and its scales that's shed in
but it's just swam down under the bridge and then back up into like a little eddy and then dipped
behind a rock. Absolutely beautiful and it's the first wild salmon I've seen here in North America
so another massive tick there. An amazing time with that moose and we've got a load of dippers
here along the river which has been fantastic. So yeah, what a place. On to the next I think
but what a great morning this has been. Can't wait to see plenty more. So we've just stopped
off here and we've got some goats feeding off the salt on the roads. Just the three there.
Looks like two adults and a youngster and I've just heard a clark's nutcracker which I've never
heard of and I can hear it calling up behind me in this forest that's all the way along this very,
very vertical escarpment there. It is absolutely fantastic. So, so sheer. An ideal place for
golden eagle to nest for sure. There'll be an eyrie up there. Absolutely. What a fantastic,
fantastic outlook. First one I thought I saw something then. If I can get a shot of that
nutcracker it would be amazing but it's calling way up the back so I don't think there's much
chance of that but still to hear it was fantastic.
