Welcome back to another video you guys. Hope you've been enjoying a lot of the past videos we've been
posting. We've actually been able to mix it up a little bit. We got some obviously pig content or
axis deer hunt hunting turkeys. Like we've just been able to do some more springtime hunting stuff
and hopefully you guys have been enjoying that. Let me know if you want some more stuff as we
continue through spring and summer that we can try to chase after to kind of mix up with all of our
other archery stuff. But we're diving back in to another Lancaster Archery unboxing where if you
don't know Lancaster Archery Supply is essentially the Amazon for everything archery. You could get
it next day to your door pretty much anything in the archery world LancasterArchery.com. So they
sent me something in this box. I'm not 100% sure what it is. It could be a couple different options
because we got a lot of things on the docket coming from them. So we're gonna dive in. We're
gonna open this up maybe. I also apologize I kind of have like a mixture of a cold and allergies
all in one. So I'm kind of congested this morning.
I have seen this release everywhere. It feels like everyone has probably seen this release
too. It's definitely one of the more popular trigger style releases. So we're like you know what
let's uh let's get this bad boy and let's do a review on it. So here we go this is the
Spot Hog Wiseguy. Spot Hog as probably most of you guys know is a really reputable
big brand in the archery accessory space. They make these sights as well which are we've done
reviews on before. If you are interested in those you can go and check them out.
They have a triple pin which is pretty popular adjustable triple pin. So really good stuff
coming from Spot Hog. Really robust. That's kind of what they're known for. You know they
might even sacrifice a little bit on some precision to make sure that it's super robust
which a lot of guys really really like. So here we go this is the Wiseguy. This is a trigger
styled release meaning it's like a wrist rocket. Wrist rocket trigger style release where there's
no back tension. There's no you know like you don't use your thumb for a button like you're
probably used to me seeing it uses this trigger mechanism and there's really not a whole lot
going on with this. It looks like to activate it you just press it forward. Let's put some tension
on it to see. Yeah boom so simple. Pull on the trigger boom goes off. It's actually set up pretty
light. Look at that mechanism in there. Wow that is very interesting. Can you adjust this bad boy?
I think you can. Well the first adjustment that's pretty obvious is the length of the strap and
we'll kind of go over since this is a simpler product like there's really not a whole lot.
I think we're mainly going to go over like the technique and how to actually shoot one of these
how I would recommend it. So the distance on the strap is really important that that is adjustable
so I really like this release that it is adjustable. You can pull this strap
straighten it out and you can get any sort of length out of it. I really really like that.
So pretty simple. A lot of them aren't this simple. It's literally just a buckle
and then you just funnel it back through on this back side and I'm sure like if you got a lot of
this tagging out the back honestly you could probably cut that and burn it if you know that
you want it a little bit shorter like this and you don't get this extra extra stuff. Okay so
diving into the actual strap part. This is a very standard leather strap. I've had a lot of releases
in the past that have the same leather strap so there's really nothing novel about this.
I know that there's this release maybe comes with a boa or you could put those boa straps on
but one thing to note is once you find where you like this around your wrist it's very important
that you put it in the same hole every single time because as you guys know archery is all
about repeatability doing the same thing over and over again so if you're putting it in maybe like
just like whatever one feels best today it can like potentially make things inconsistent.
So right now it won't even activate because essentially I push the travel past the sear
it's no different than other releases no different than the uv button how we recommend having it set
so we're just going to back it out a little bit until okay so there we go so now it's set so
essentially we're going to take this screw and we're just going to spin it until it pops past
the internal sear yeah there we go so then we're just going to back out a quarter turn so
travel is now set to no travel so that's where you want it that's most of the time how you want
it to have a really good crisp shot is there's no travel essentially you're not moving the trigger
in a button or index to make it fire it's just a straight tension like you're just
applying more pressure but it's not moving until it breaks and breaks loose I think it's just a
like a that's it you can just do travel but the pressure is already set well I guess we'll shoot
a little bit and see what happens so like I was saying make sure you put it in the same spot every
time and these do get a little easier after you break them in a little bit to put them on
they are kind of a pain okay so there we go stay strapped that actually feels like
it's going to be a little too long so I'll go over this once in that full draw a little bit
but I really like to wrap a lot of my finger around on the on that trigger for several reasons
but just for initial setup I think I'm going to pull this even a little bit tighter so I will say
this is definitely tailored more for the bow hunter just for the fact that there's really
not a whole lot of adjustment it's pretty much just a one setting sort of thing you can adjust
the travel besides that not a whole lot of adjustment which is fine like honestly you
really don't need you really don't need a whole lot what I really like about this release too
is it's just an open hook I like these compared to like the clasp that like clip onto the string
because I feel like whenever I'm like I used to hunt with a trigger release a lot back like in my
younger days and stuff until I switched to using a hinge and a button more but a clasp whenever
you're like under pressure I feel like like you're shaking and like adrenaline let's say like a deer
is coming in here you're trying to like trying to get it clipped on I feel like I've always
struggled so just a hook it's really easy just to boom hook it right in you get a little bit
pressure and and that's it and no matter what release you shoot if it's a button release if
it's a hinge release if it's a tension release or a trigger release there's essentially four
styles of releases they all should be shot very similar similarly as in you all want them to be
a controlled but surprise shot I obviously don't want to punch any of them and you always want to
have this like pushing and pulling increase of tension mentality on the trigger and on your shot
and essentially creates a semi-surprise shot so that you don't necessarily anticipate it so you
can do the same thing with the trigger release and there's lots of target guys that still shoot
like professional target guys that still shoot triggers and can shoot it like 100% correctly
the the thing though and this is why I think it's such a steep learning curve from one thing to
another is you can become very attuned to just punching it like this your index finger is very
sensitive you know you come around this bad boy and just punch it so it's like a lot of bow hunters
do that and it's hard to make that jump to stop doing that and then to get into some other releases
too so just because your index finger I feel like as a motor skill is is way more it's your pointer
finger like it's like you just want to punch it you want to make something happen with it compared
to like your button with your thumb or like your whole hand or whatever so get it activated
so you get the full draw the anchor I like to wrap my index finger as deep as I possibly can there
and then wow and then what that's going to do is it's going to allow you wow
that was very sensitive it allows you to wrap it around
man I'm so surprised there's no tension thing on this let's try that again it allows you to wrap
it around keep pushing and pulling apply a little bit of pressure until boom it goes off and this is
very sensitive okay so I backed out this this tension screw decent a decent amount I'm gonna
see if that did anything it's it's pretty sensitive right now which is good in a sense but
I like to wrap my finger around there a little bit okay I increased it a little bit but not much
but it's really good I love that there's no travel in this release
it's very sensitive and crisp you can just tell it's all high quality okay so we're gonna come
back here anchor wrap our finger all the way around push and pull push and pull and boom
it goes off no differently than a hinge no differently than a button it's the same same
sort of technique you don't you don't really switch anything um when bouncing around at different
releases like same follow through same process you're just changing the mechanics of how you
know the style of the release but the the overall process is the same you're just laying your finger
on pushing and pulling to increase pressure and it's almost like you're relaxing into the trigger
instead of applying more pressure like you're relaxing and pushing and pulling into it
continuing to aim making the decision to keep aiming and make a good shot it's not a drive by
it's not a which I mean by that like you're coming down into it and right when it's in the middle
you know that's about the worst thing you can do it's aiming in the middle
wrapping your finger around being comfortable pushing and pulling and continuing your shot
while aiming I like to anchor with them by kind of putting my knuckle right under my ear there
creates a really good solid anchor point and that's something I guess I'll say too is your
anchor point switches a little bit especially with the trigger release you have more face contact in
a different way obviously your hand is like this compared to this with a button so you kind of have
to get used to that but the one important thing that you always want to make sure regardless of
releases face pressure you want to make sure that you still have very minimal face pressure so as
long as your anchor doesn't increase your face pressure it really doesn't matter so I still have
very good face pressure which is like very minimal
the wise guy very popular release because it is very simple it's very fail safe I love that
the recock mechanism is just right in here so you just go back and forth the one thing that I did
wish it had was the increase of the tension to make the you know you can put a little bit more
pressure on it without it going off it's kind of at a one setting right now you can adjust it
slightly with that little set screw but if you just want a really good trigger release just to
pick up and start shooting that's not going to really cause you any issues I mean it's a great
release I love the adjustable-ness of it right there but any trigger release it's always important
wrap around push and pull push and pull continue continue continue thank you all for watching
today's video Lancaster archery supply thank you for sending me one of these and now I have one so
I might actually mess around with this and shoot a little bit so thank you all for watching we'll
catch you in the next one
