Shunzhi’s Sealed Tomb: A 23-Year-Old Emperor, a Lost Empress, and a Hidden Palace | Xiaoling EP3

Episode Three of the Xiaoling series takes us inside the sealed tomb of the Shunzhi Emperor. Using Qing archival records, imperial tomb regulations and comparisons with other royal mausoleums, we reconstruct the hidden underground palace, the Long’en Hall rituals, and the Manchu-style cremation that made this mausoleum unique. At the heart of this episode is Shunzhi’s doomed love for Empress Xiaoxian of the Dong’e clan — and how their family tragedy was literally written into the layout of his silent tomb.
