China has slapped a $50 billion lawsuit on Missouri, calling the Show-Me State an economic and reputational threat.

The lawsuit targets Missouri's governor and two former attorneys general: Sen. Eric Schmitt and FBI Co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey, both of whom spearheaded a Missouri lawsuit against the Chinese Communist Party.

The state previously sued and won a case against China for hoarding masks and other protective gear during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Schmitt says he sees being sued by China as a badge of honor.

The lawsuit was filed by authorities in Wuhan and Chinese research bodies. It accuses Schmitt and Missouri officials of damaging China's reputation through what it calls "malicious and vexatious litigation."

Schmitt rejects the claims, calling the case baseless lawfare meant to distract from China's pandemic response.
