Making a 1910s Evening Dress || Dressing the 20th Century Woman

So I was supposed to take 2 of my 1890s style skirts (yes, I have 1890s style skirts. I used them for modern wear as I don’t actually do 1890s living history) and recut them to 1910s skirts for modern wear. But then I realized I had a semi-formal wedding and also a fancy national art show to attend and I don’t own semi formal or formal clothing. I have had plans to make a few of these for such events for years now but never got around to doing so. Two events in a row meant I had to get it done. The fabric was a vintage silk saree that had some bleach splotches in some important spots that would make it difficult to be used for its original purpose. I used McCalls 7941 as the base pattern, threw out the directions (NEVER follow pattern directions from big pattern lines if you want authenticity), and had to make some significant changes to the skirt to make it better follow period lines (the pattern is a great costume piece, not necessarily a reconstruction of a period accurate piece) but otherwise, it turned out fine. For the overdress, I used black silk gauze with modern lace and jet bead trim but made it to where I can wear the dress with or without the over dress for versatility.
