Highlights from the dramatic and crazy final round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
Yeah, it's a good try from Shikada.
Easiest of birdies.
Extends the lead.
He's only just inside the top 20 now at nine under par.
Burke out of the rough at three.
Terrific shot from Christian Burke.
The left hand pin at four.
This is Alderik Podhita for eagle at eight.
Thank you very much.
And the ground as quickly as possible.
You learn.
It's not all about the lob wedge.
Fantondo now.
Good line.
He hasn't, has he?
Yes, he has.
Now he will definitely look at the camera
because he just loves to give the camera a little
thank you very much people.
Here we go.
We're over here.
Camera's over here, Donny.
Come on, come on.
Oh, don't let me down now.
Here is the defending Alfred Dunhill champion
Sean Dorris at the par five eighth.
Oh, tasty little eagle.
Wow.
And straight into fourth place.
That's the way to defend.
Staring it up and down.
But oh, is it in the penalty area or is he safe, John?
I think he wants to move the rock, John.
That's what I think.
No.
That was smart play.
Not the time to be a hero.
And I tell you what.
He's got a tough third to come.
If he makes a five here,
the rest of the pack are going to get a serious
boost when they see it on a leaderboard somewhere.
Big moment.
Yeah, it's going to be a few more.
He's had a go at it.
Go on.
Well, double at best that he'll make that.
Nicely done.
Sean Norris, who dropped a shot at 10,
has got it back there at 11.
So he's at 12 under and only two shots behind.
Pitch it just on the green.
Get it running as quickly as possible.
Settle, settle.
Not bad.
Let's head over to Sean Norris at 13 first.
Our defending champion putting in a run here.
Oh, yeah, he knows it too.
Norris second at 14.
Well, what a chance he's given himself there.
And Sean Norris to continue this nice little run.
He's birdied two of the last three.
And this is to tie the lead.
Three at the top.
Norris joins Schaefer and Chikara.
Poorly played hole, I'm afraid, from Schaefer at the wrong time.
But he is still tied for the lead with Sean Norris.
Let's go to Grace up ahead at 10.
Well, could this get him going?
Go on.
What a shot from Grace.
He's got to take them all on.
And there's a great start on the 10.
That surprises me a little bit.
20th on tour.
Strokes gain green in regulation.
And that is an absolute peach from the defending champion.
And he will have that to move ahead of Chikara at the top.
Oh, he's got it as well.
Three in a row, four birdies in the last five holes.
And Sean Norris, who is defending the title
and started the day seven shots behind.
Be right, he says.
Another stunning shot from Sean Norris.
What a run of golf this is.
Well, John Morgan told us about Chikara's second into 10.
And this is what he's left himself to move to 15 under par.
For a while, at least, to get back into a share of the lead.
Fantastic.
Nothing will settle you down quicker than that.
Playing a miracle shot.
Four birdies in a row for Sean Norris.
Five in six holes.
He's got two very bad gettable holes coming up as well.
He is looking for a sprint finish
and a successful defense of the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
Big part here for Chikara for the par.
Norris got a great chance of 17.
Not to be.
I think this might clinch it.
It's a good putt.
No, he wasn't going to leave it short, was he?
Good ring balling.
He said it wasn't going to break.
Seven shots off the lead at the start of the day.
Sean Norris posts the number.
It is a closing 62.
He had that.
Oh, that's better.
That's better.
Jayden Shaper.
He won't go away.
Birdie from Jayden Shaper.
He moves to within one of the lead two holes to play.
And what a time to do it as well for Shaper.
Oh, there's the first birdie he needs, you'd think.
Great shot.
Brilliant.
Birdies at 16 and 17.
And Shaper has this par five closing hole to come.
A birdie or better.
And the title is his.
And he has still got a putt to win, I think.
But a good finish for Shaper.
Three birdies in the last five holes to catch Sean Norris.
Yes, he's going to be disappointed not to make birdie there at number 18.
But he will have another opportunity because he and Sean Norris
are going into extra holes here at Royal Johannesburg.
He's done an awful lot of stretching.
Naturally supple guy.
And that's so much better than his 72nd hole.
He has just drilled that.
Stay away from the bunker.
Straight in it.
Oh my.
Set up left.
Looked like he was trying to hit a cut into the green.
Couldn't have asked for more.
I mean, that is so easy when the foot slips like that to just duff it.
Hit two inches behind it.
It goes halfway.
Fantastic.
The last time he hit a chip, he holed it.
And a very similar chip, I'd say, to the one he had on 16.
Quite unsure how the best man went.
For an eagle three.
Like so many before him.
Just did not see how much break is in that putt.
Looking more nervous than I said.
Ryan, I don't know where Ryan is.
He's dead.
He might be hiding behind the grandstands there.
Not at all.
He's been a great supporter.
Flag in or flag out, Jamie?
If you're trying to hold it, flag out.
But he's done and he's passing it through the cooch.
Once again to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
What a putt.
And what a finish from Jayden Shaper,
who wins his first title on the DP World Tour,
beating Sean Norris in a playoff.
Wonderful stuff.
Lovely scenes here at Royal Johannesburg.
It's been coming.
Oh, lovely.
That really is lovely from Sean Norris.
Wow, Jayden.
You made it tough on yourself,
but I'm sure the emotions haven't even trickled into your body yet.
What does it mean for you to finally get a breakthrough DP World Tour win?
Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's been out here for a few years now.
It's been a grind.
It's been tough, but I've come close so many times.
So, yeah, to get it done here at home with my family watching,
especially after last week, just having two incredible weeks.
But yeah, just be able to win in front of my family, my friends, my coach.
It's just unreal.
And to finally get it done is, yeah, it's just awesome.
It's been a good year.
I mean, you finished fourth at the Magical Kenya Open,
third at the KLM Open,
and as you mentioned, second last week.
And now to finally get it over the line.
Yeah, I mean, it's just, it's been close, like I said.
But yeah, I just got to keep fighting, keep doing what I was doing.
And I mean, eventually it was hopefully going to happen.
I mean, coming down the last hole in regulation play,
I was like, I just couldn't agree to make birdie.
But I mean, just between clubs and I made it tough for myself.
But I mean, yeah, just to get into a place with Sean.
I mean, he obviously had an incredible run of golf to get up there.
I mean, he pops out of nowhere today on that leaderboard.
But yeah, just an awesome week.
And if I look back at a few years ago,
when I just turned professional,
finishing second in the Daniel at Leopard Creek,
that one felt like that could have been my first win.
And to come, I think, what's it, five years later,
to come out here at Daniel, a different location.
But I mean, yeah, playing again is just amazing, yeah.
A couple of great shots.
That chip in on 16 was incredible.
But tell us about that bunker shot in the playoff with all the pressure on you.
Oh, I mean, obviously it's something I can say.
It's a good angle.
It had a nice lie.
And obviously with the shot I had in regulation play,
we just we had pretty much a pretty similar number.
But I mean, yeah, I just trust my golf.
So you trust that I was going to get it up over that lip,
which wasn't too high.
But yeah, I just said it's probably one of the shots of my career.
And it's all the part just to top that off is just yes, just special.
It's pretty cool.
Yeah, it's been incredible to watch.
Congratulations.
I see. Thank you very much.
Thank you.
And in the closing 67 to earn himself a playoff against Sean Norris
and then to win in the fashion that he won as well.
Stunning stuff from shape,
but really is for a young man to show that sort of composure.
That trophy, Jayden.
It is not small, but I'll ask Dr.
Simon to congratulate you and you can lift the trophy as our champion.
Congratulations, Jayden Shaper.
We've seen a few people struggle to get that right up above their heads in the past.
Beautiful.
