This episode is from my last days in Kenya which shows a story how I made new friends, just like that, on the side of the road. Our initial plans with Armin and Rico was to ride together for a day and have few beers but one day stretched into a week, few hundred kilometers and uncountable beers.
You're gonna ruin my shot
No, no, no, no, don't go there
Yeah, I'm talking to you
Only 20 kilometers left of this road
So many rocks
My rims
How are you?
What's your name?
Is this road going to Lorwalk?
Yeah
This one?
Okay
Thank you
Come on, come on
You're welcome
And you, come on
Hello
Is this the road to Lorwalk?
Yeah, this one?
You guys got it?
The little one didn't get it
Who didn't get it?
You didn't get it
Don't be afraid
Is it that one or this one?
To Lorwalk?
So I need to turn around and then
Thank you
Good boy, thank you
Where is this road?
Thank you
Oh ----, ----, ----, ----, ----
Okay
This looks a little bit nicer
No, it's better
So pretty
Hey
How are you?
What a surprise
You guys coming from Uganda?
No
You're the first
Actually all the landers I met here in Kenya
But just like that randomly
Hey
Hi, I'm Rico
Nice to meet you
Nice to meet you, hi
Hey
I'm Armin
Kinga
Nice to meet you
How are you?
Good
You guys had some mud on the way?
Yesterday, yes
It was a bit of a
Bit of a challenge
So where are you coming from?
We went to Nanyuki
And then we went upwards
Along the national park
And then we thought we would take a shortcut
Towards
What's the place?
Lake Baringo
But it turned out it wasn't the road
Okay boys
So now time to introduce yourself
Hi, I'm Armin from Germany
I'm on the road since
3rd of April
Three months ago
Awesome
So you started from Africa, yeah?
Yes
You shipped your bike to Egypt?
Yes
No, no, no
To Israel
Oh, so the same route as me
From Salerno to Astor
And then I was in Israel
Identical routes, yeah
Sweet, and you?
I'm Rico
I'm from Switzerland
And I've ridden down from Zurich so far
Started on the 17th of April
So you're fast
Well, I actually took a lot of breaks now
In between
Spent some time relaxing also in between
But I went down the Balkans
To Greece
Then transferred to Haifa
Oh, nice
Apparently this is much easier
The Haifa
It is, it was quite easy
And the Balkans are really nice to ride
Yeah, for sure
I enjoyed Bosnia and Serbia
Kosovo
Cool, so you guys just met on the road?
Well, when we were heading down
You probably know Omar
Yeah, yeah, of course
I texted him, he was helping me
With a few things
And he said a German guy was just heading like
Maybe two days ahead of me
And so we teamed up in Aswan
To go through Sudan
Because of the fuel situation
Right, right, right
It's a bit easier
There's two of you
So it gives you some additional security
For sure
So since then you've been traveling together
Or you separate
You went separate
No, then in Mekele
Mekele we separated again
Because I went to Danakil
And you went directly south
And then we met again in Jungle Junction
So
Now we're traveling again together since
Three days
Third day
And then you're gonna go again
You're gonna travel now together?
Together to Kitale
For sure
And I think you're gonna head to Uganda
After that
I might spend some more time in Kenya
Right
North of it
I don't know yet
I'll have to check the terrain
And get some local information
Sweet
Well it was
I mean
It's so good to meet you guys
You don't see many overlanders on the road here
Yeah
Awesome
Let's present the bikes now
This is not your bike
What are you doing here?
Cool
We've got some special effects
So how do you find your bike on a journey like this?
This bike is very, very good
It's very, very comfortable
But it's too heavy
It's too heavy for some roads here
For tricky tracks
Yes, yes
I agree
Gravel road with very big stones
And very big rocks
Muddy passages
Yeah, I can tell
You've done some mud
Yes
What you got?
It's Kona 701
And how you find it?
I love it
Perfect bike for this type of trip
I agree
Not too heavy
Big tan
Fueled and loaded
Maybe 200 kilos
So
How much fuel you carry?
With additional tanks
It's 31 liters
Wow
So what's the range?
Between 500 and 600 kilometers
Depending on how I ride
So it takes a lot of fuel actually
It does relatively
It's like 5 to 6 liters
Okay
That's not too bad
Cool
She's good off-road
Yeah, for sure
Okay, this is our lineup for the picture
Okay
Everyone
Okay
Out of the parking lot
Okay
So this is the video
We can wave
Hello
Is it Kenyan music?
We made it
Yes
We made it
It was fast
Space for a tent
And we are
Nearly set
Where are we?
Today?
I don't know actually
What's the name?
Eaton
We're in Eaton today
Camping together
With the guys
How are you?
Good
Thank you very much
You're welcome
You guys have stickers or what?
No
I have nothing
That's weak
That's the man
And that's your page
Are you on Insta as well?
What?
Are you on Instagram as well?
Instagram
Instagram, yes, yes
Instagram and Facebook
Okay
I'll tag you then
Cheers
How Russians would say
Zavstretchu
Cheers
I'm glad
I got to
Meet you today
Yes
A little bit of socializing
It's awesome
It's a great coincidence
Yeah, absolutely
Show us your pants
Proud Bavarian
Hold on
Proud Bavarian pants
And they are
Sponsored
Pants
Show us
Show us your logo
Logo
That's cool
Yeah
It's there
And then
What do you do with your
AT
That's Flash
Yes
And then this is a
Your name tag
Yes, my name tag
For the beer
For beer
Perfect
Classic beer
I think it's the liver
No
This is the heart
No
This is what I call
Kenyan hospitality
Thank you so much
Cheers
To Kenya
That's number one
Makes you unlucky
I had two
Of course I had two
Are they Polish?
Thank you
Thank you, thank you
Four
Yes, yes
He had one, I had two
You had at least
At least you need to have three
Prost
Good man
That's it
Work it, work
Yes
Love your moves
You guys professional, hey
You guys are so cool
You said this one is from
Switzerland
Yeah, Switzerland
Hello
Hi
You people
He has told me
That you've come all the way from Germany
With the bikes
Yeah
Is it not so tiresome?
No, it's fine
It's fine?
Yes
But you go and rest
Yeah, sure
Of course
Go and rest
Yeah
Good
This one now
How many capacity?
800
Oh
That is abnormal
Oh
Whereas this one just takes a little
This is small
His one is big
That one is so big
He has told me
1,200
Yeah, yeah
Big bike
Okay
And then followed by this one
That's 700
That one is 700
Now that one
And then this one
That's fine
It is just so powerful
Ready boys?
Ready
Huh?
Now where are you heading to?
That way
Where?
That way
This way?
Yeah
I'll see you
So
I think it will be 9 kilometers
Of this
But I thought it was next to the main road
So are you ready?
Hi
How is it?
Excellent
How is it?
Slippery
So slippery
It's heavy with my bike
Too easy
It's boring
A lovely day in Kenya
It's Kenya
It's Kenya life
That's it
Well done boys
Made it
No fault
Well done
Well done, well done
Beer time
Now boys
Cheers
Treat yourself to a beer
Cheers
How's my hair?
Good? Yeah? How's your hair?
Good? You ready?
Okay, good
So it's time to go
We've decided to cross the border
Together because
The conditions can be quite challenging
But, yeah
Hopefully
We've got I think a little bit of gap now
It didn't rain all morning
So hopefully
We'll get to the border
There's 30 kilometers to go
And then past the border
We get another 30 kilometers
In rough conditions
So, yeah
Let's say it's gonna be a good day
Might take us all day
But might take us just two hours
Right?
We'll see
It'll be fun
So, yeah
Let's go
Too much walking
This action shooting
Is killing me
