This video from Mozambique is from my short break in Maputo where I had to some fix minor issues with Chillie and hung out with my new friends Furkan and Matt. Such great memories.
Everyone has left and I was left behind
I had problems with Chillie
The battery undead
Went completely flat so
Tried to charge it but it's actually faulty battery
I couldn't charge it anymore so I had to get to town get a new battery
They didn't have the perfect battery for me
I mean sort of the same size it's just a little bit higher
I can't really fix it properly but that's okay it's just to get to Naputra
And let's see if she's gonna be running
This is my host
So now he's leading me
To the mechanic
Nice bikes
That's a lot of people
Get in?
Just here?
Yeah?
Hi
My host
Hello
So as I've noticed in the last few days because I had problems with Chillie
And it was so hot and it couldn't be bothered
But anyway, anyhow it was probably the battery and my relay
That started in Ted
Anyway
We were running around between one of the electrical, electrician and mechanics
And Furkan was very helpful
But Chillie is sorted
I've got the battery
Well
Really
The old battery is fine it's charged hopefully will last me until South Africa
I really like Naputra
I don't know there's something about this town that it's just you know
There's a lot of concrete buildings probably that's why I love it so much
And a lot of Russian influence I can see it as well
So yeah it's super cool town
So it's Saturday midday and now we're going to
We're going to
Catch up with
Catch up with local riders
For lunch, coffee, drink whatever
Not sure how many people are gonna come but
Should be a good afternoon
So we just got up for a little lunch
Here at
Matt
How long are you on the road for?
I think it's now
One and a half years on the road
Yeah
So you've done West Coast of Africa
Yeah I came down from Switzerland, West Coast down South Africa
Had a little stop over back home
Now I was on my way up and got stuck in Mozambique
For six months
Yeah
Yeah Mozambique is a beautiful country
It is, it is
So this is your bike
800 GS
The best of course
I know that
It's nice setup you've got there
Make it look professional please
Always
What happened to the KTM?
There she is
Today is Sunday and Furkan is taking me
Where are we going?
Pont de Dior
That's where we're going
It's actually only 100 kilometers, 110 kilometers, right?
And there is nice coast, nice beaches
And we're just gonna hang out there
Meet some other peeps
So it should be good Sunday
Bikes stay at home, it's 42 degrees
We can't be bothered going anywhere else
And I will use this occasion to ask Furkan a few questions
So Furkan is originally from Turkey
And you live here for
10 years
Why did you move here?
All the way from Turkey to Mozambique
I think it's about a little bit destiny and business
Business
Yeah
So what sort of business do you have here?
I have a lift company, elevators
So how you find it Furkan?
Is this your home now?
Like this Mozambique
You don't want to live anywhere else in the world?
Right now I think I'm half Mozambican
You're half Mozambican?
Yeah, I like Mozambique
It's a very good place
Yeah
Good lifestyle
Everyone is relaxed
You only need some also
Yeah
We are living good in here
Yeah, for sure
A lot of people get stuck in Mozambique
I've come across so many people who just came for a visit and that's it
They just stay here for a long, long time
I don't blame them, it's so, so relaxing
People are super nice and they're super
Yeah
And the weather, the weather is good
And there's a beautiful coast and generally
Has Joe and I might stuck here for six months on the beach
Show us your tattoo
That's cool man
You've done it here
Yeah, it's a traditional
Right
Did it hurt?
It's okay
It's not as painful as normal they say
I mean it was my first one
What do you mean with bamboo?
He's done it with bamboo?
He has like a bamboo stick
Yeah
And he binds some needles on it
Then it's by hand through the little machine which is moving the needle
It's every stitch he's doing with his hand
Wow
Which takes a while, it was around one and a half days
I think six, seven hours of work
Excuse me
Pardon my French
Seriously that's, that's a long time
Yeah, it's fine
It was chilled atmosphere in our camp
So people coming by having a drink and chatting while you
Yeah, cool
Tattooing
I see now, so it's the wheel of your bike
And then, right, the compass and Africa
That's pretty clever
Did you design it yourself?
With him together
I would say
So it was your idea that he put on paper, yeah?
I always wanted to have the idea of just the outline of Africa and the compass
And then he came up with the idea of the
Yeah, cool
And I was redesigning a whole evening
It looks really good
So that's it
What are we up to?
We're going for an R&R
R&R, what's R&R?
R&R, rum and raspberry
Rum and raspberry
We have Tipo Tinto, which is our local very good rum
Yeah, absolutely looks amazing
And then we have Marengo
Marengo
You stuck here in Mozambique because you are working here
Yeah, now finally I'm working
Officially I'm not working, I'm just a very helpful guest
What do you do here?
I started diving and now I'm a dive master working in dive camp
Helping out, be bartender, reception
Whatever
Where people can meet me
So yeah, that's what I'm doing, enjoying life
Is that my drink?
And that's R&R
R&R
Rum and raspberry, enjoy
Smells like raspberry
It's just like a soft drink with a little bit of alcohol
Just a little bit
It's a lot?
Did you put a lot?
I don't know
You know, you know
You know, you know this one?
Thank you
You're welcome
Cheers
And it's finally time to leave
Maputo
But I'll be back
Thank you so much
For looking after me, I had the best time
Thank you
But we'll see him again in February
I'll be back to Mozambique
I'm not done yet with this country
Thank you so much
You're welcome
See you next month
I thought he was right
Last kilometers in Mozambique
Well, for now
And the border should be just here
This way or that way?
I'll be there first, meet me at Gershon, yeah?
Okay, thank you
Pardon?
I have a bike, that's enough
Yeah
Of course
Australia
Yeah
Two and a half years
It's true
OHB
OHB, only OHB
That's it
Thank you very much, sir
I'll just give it to them, yeah?
At the end, at the exit, yeah?
They will stamp this in your passport
Okay, cool
Perfect, thank you
you
