A man single-handedly built his dream home, step by step, over five years, deep in the forest. This video tells not just the construction of a house, but a story of patience. An elderly craftsman builds his home, off-grid, using only his own labor. From foundation to roof, doors to windows, every detail was crafted by his own hands.
So, let's not further ado… Let's follow this five-year construction journey from beginning to end and witness the transformation that this dream underwent as it became a home.
In today's video, we'll explore the fascinating process of building a Japanese-style yurt from
the ground up. The project begins with the selection and preparation of the site,
where a precise circular outline is traced directly onto the grass.
This project truly requires effort and patience. Especially considering the age of the person who
made it, it deserves a standing ovation. At this stage, every upcoming component's
balance and positioning depend on a perfectly centered layout that expands outward seamlessly.
A rock obstacle is encountered. However, with skill, this is overcome. For some,
it is just a building. But for him, it is a lifetime memory. This platform provides a flat,
stable base, where interior flooring will later be installed with care.
While the groundwork continues on-site, skilled carpentry takes place in the workshop,
where the compression ring is carefully crafted. The builder proceeds to construct the floor
platform, forming the solid base that will ensure the structure's stability.
These pieces were shaped precisely to match both the outer circle and the inner gap designed for
the compression ring. After finishing and insulating the circular base, the builder
moved on to constructing and positioning the wall sections one by one. Every panel was securely
joined to the next and firmly fixed to the base, creating a strong and seamless wall system.
At the same time, the builder started assembling the support frame for the compression ring,
a crucial architectural element of the design. Maintaining perfect symmetry and spacing is
crucial, as the entire roof's stability relies on a balanced radial alignment.
The compression ring spreads the weight evenly, enabling every rafter to join seamlessly at the
top in perfect equilibrium. Now he is building the doors and windows of the house. Having one
person handle everything reduces costs considerably. The curved walls below are now
completely covered and wrapped in a moisture-resistant black sheeting. To finish the
roof's crown, where the top edges of the radial panels surround the open compression ring,
Bochyut applies fiberglass as both a sealing and bonding agent for extra strength. Finally,
a transparent plastic hemisphere is installed at the top of the compression ring as a skylight
dome. He starts placing the shingles along the roof's outer edge to ensure perfect alignment
and balance. Each shingle is carefully cut and laid in a fan shape, overlapping each other neatly.
In parallel, he crafts some extensions for the windows to deflect rainwater away from the window
seams. Now it's time to install fiberglass bat insulation to regulate indoor temperature and
improve overall energy efficiency. Finally, it is time to finish the walls of the yurt,
turning it into a durable, breathable, and aesthetically unified dwelling.
He is currently building a small wooden deck and stair platform in front of the yurt entrance.
Flexible cross-linked polyethylene PEX tubing was used for the water supply lines.
The underside of the burner area was likely reinforced to withstand the weight and thermal
exposure of regular cooking. The chimney must be positioned correctly and a fire-resistant
structure must be created. Then, he starts building an anti-mosquito mesh for the entrance
door to ensure protection from insects without compromising ventilation. We're about to see the
final version of the house. For a more detailed and lengthy walkthrough of the house's construction
process, you can check out the video's owner's YouTube channel. All links are in the description.
