and I don't get to leave until I've
chipped them all in good morning guys
welcome back to the vlog been a minute
I've been leaving you hanging just a
little bit on how things went in The
Match Play I lost in the first round I
lost three and two wasn't an epic battle
the wind was howling we both played I
can't really complain about I didn't
really do anything wrong never was out
of the hole the puss didn't really go in
when I needed him to go in and he had
some jock late in the back nine that was
it so I'm here in Ottawa I've been here
for a couple days now and it's been
amazing it's been so much fun I've
rested and I've been practicing my
thought off on my short game so that's
what today's vlog is we haven't had one
of these in a long long time it's a
practice law
[Music]
[Music]
so it's been a while since I've had a
full-on practice vlog the last time I
had a practice while I was probably back
in Florida in March
I've taking you out to the golf course
before here at Highlands but haven't
really walked you through the work I'm
doing so this week I have a full week
off to prepare for the Ontario
championship it's my first week off in
seven weeks so there's just been a ton
of ton of work kind of inside 120 150
yards right now I'm working really
really hard on my putting I'm committing
to this this new putter I love how it
strokes I just I used it in one
tournament and it really liked it but I
just I've been struggling to see the
line so what I'm doing right now is I'm
working really really hard on my routine
got a lie on the ball and I'm really
working diligently on my sight line
making it so that when I look from my
posture from from beside the ball that I
see the line because that's what I've
been struggling with and when you don't
see the line your subconscious starts to
just make little adjustments little
mistakes the face changes the path
changes the contact changes and then you
miss putts so that's what I'm doing
right now working really really really
hard on that full routine every time get
that line tee where I want it to aim and
make sure the line is straight I get
over the ball and I just don't have the
putter down and I adjust my body until I
look up and see that line put the putter
down go and you'll see the reason I have
a towel down because I'm standing in the
same place for a long time I don't want
to mess up the green so I stand on the
towel it preserves the green so anyone
out there if you're putting for a long
time do the green a favor
[Music]
this drill I'm doing is something I've
been struggling on as well just basic
up-and-down it's really easy pitch shots
well I've got five balls the objective
is to get up and down 20 out of 25 times
like a minimum of 20 and if I don't well
then I start over so I can't finish this
drill until I've gotten up and down 2025
times minimum so 80% we just saw there
was five four five but that was three
good chips two bad ones
two good putts three Japanese the
objective obviously is to chip these are
incredibly close so that you don't
fertilize hunter that's drilled number
two today all right done the drill I got
up and down 21 out of 25 times more
because of my putting this part of my
short game has really been letting me
down in the last few weeks I think a lot
because of the courses we play the grass
has changed the thickness changes the
firmness of the Greens changes and I've
just been like guessing so I need to
spend a lot of time working on this
right now so I'm just gonna probably
bust out about fifty to a hundred just
simple chips pitches from roughs just
been letting me down so I need to work
on that
[Music]
important thing for when you're
practicing your short game is to be
using different club for the basic
pitching around here I did 30 with my 54
degree wedge and I'm struggling with it
so I'm working on my rhythm my posture
just the basics and then I switched to a
pitching wedge and all of a sudden the
shot got a lot easier it's one of those
things that you don't always have to
grab a lot of wedge always have to grab
the sand wedge practicing with different
clubs helps you get a bit of creativity
back bit of feel back there's a huge
benefit there's a huge upside to it
because when you get on a golf course
you'll be able to visualize and kind of
see different shots out there so always
practice with different clubs when it
comes to your short game but a few more
to hit here and then hit some short
sighted stuff ok the last thing I'm
gonna do here on the putting green is a
little fun drill that tests your your
skill obviously but it really really
tests your focus your patience and your
attitude I've got five balls short side
a little flop shot and I don't get to
leave until I chip them all in so once
one goes in and I only have four balls
and then so on and so forth so it gets
really really fun when you're down to
one and two balls because you have to be
very very focused patient and you can't
get frustrated you can't get rushed
you just gotta gotta grind it out let's
do this
[Music]
[Music]
well that was a good test of patience
the first three balls went in pretty
quick
fourth and fifth took a lot longer but
that took it took a little while to 2025
minutes
I mean it's 11:15 I got to the pun in
green 9 a.m. 2 hours and 15 minutes do
all that work big takeaway I want to
leave you guys with is not necessarily
to judge or evaluate your practice on
time but evaluate your practice on balls
I want to do a hundred five footers 50
pitches 30 up and downs
five whole outs and that could have
taken two hours it could take an hour
and 45 minutes it could have taken two
hours 15 minutes but it's about the reps
the quality over the time a lot of
people just say I'm gonna go putt for
half an hour or I'm gonna go chip for
five minutes or to the range for 20
minutes what are you doing you're kind
of just arbitrarily picking a number and
what are you focused on what are you
what are you doing you need to have a
bit of an intention when you practice so
my intention I showed you in the past
that I put it all in a spreadsheet so I
know exactly how many balls how many
putts how many chips
I've hit and and it's broken down in the
parts of my game yeah I'm gonna have a
little snack here and then I'm gonna
head to the short range work on 50 60 70
you know a bunker shots and all that but
I think that's enough for this episode I
got to wrap this up pretty soon because
I'm gonna fit my nephew up and have a
little uncle nephew day we're gonna hang
out and then have a little sleepover
tonight so that's it give this a thumbs
up but make sure you subscribe and I'll
see you next week because I got a pro-am
and I got a PGA Tour Canada that
