ABOUT ME I’m Andrew Jensen, a former full time touring professional that played on PGA TOUR Canada, Latinoamerica and almost every North American based mini tour since 2008. I want to use my playing experience to inspire golfers to improve their own game and have more fun with this amazing game we play!
let's get into it what do I honestly
expect of myself and of the good good
championships when I first started this
process of kind of preparing or finding
out I was in the tournament it was a
five-week five and a half week process
to try to get my golf game sharp enough
competitive enough to contend in this
tournament in the first video I made a
month ago was like could I win it yes I
could
is that a realistic expectation now
absolutely not but if you're a
competitive golfer you're a tournament
player you need to approach your
tournament play with the expectation
anticipation that you have a chance to
win your team it up just to play well
like what are you preparing for you need
to go into tournament play
thinking you can win that tournament you
may have zero chance in hell but you
gotta you gotta have your mind there and
over the years of my playing career when
I played well or even when I played bad
I still entered tournaments thinking I
could win the tournament and I and I did
sometimes I did win the tournament and I
did a lot of times missed the cut or not
finishing the money my life now is I
haven't played competitive golfing over
just about a year it'll be like 11 and a
half months from a good Championship
which is today that you're watching it
right now this video is coming out and
uh my last tournament which was like
around Memorial Day of 2022.
I mean I've put a lot of pressure on
myself in these last five weeks and when
I was playing a little bit with some
friends and it wasn't going well it was
It was kind of frustrating me and like
making me super worried and my anxiety
was going up and it was like what the
heck
thankfully
I'm kind of through that my expectations
yes I want to go out to Phoenix and play
well I want to qualify for the actual
kind of real Tournament of it because I
don't want to fly out there and just
basically spend thirteen hundred dollars
to do a Monday qualifier because that's
not my life and that's not the best move
for my family so I want to go out there
and get through and qualify I know what
I have to do thankfully I have a lot of
experience knowing what that takes I've
done it before but my mental game is
going to be
it like that's gonna be what makes or
breaks it because if uh I'm not mentally
strong I'm getting in my own way it's
going to be a waste of time and
I don't want that to happen so yes today
is is one week from the tournament I
have a week to practice I will get out
there I will play a practice round and
on that Sunday I'm gonna just spend
hours
around the greens there because that's
the gonna be the key my game my my long
game my swing thankfully I've been
practicing that it feels fine indoors I
can kind of do what I want a golf ball
to do unless I pick a stupid shot which
is a mental thing like pick the right
shot and don't bite off more than I can
chew because if I start to choose the
wrong shot or a cute shot that I I have
in the bag but I haven't practiced
that's how I'll make mistakes and I'll
put myself behind the eight ball so when
I get out to Phoenix play my practice
round with Zach with some friends let's
just get a comfortable with the golf
course and then really get comfortable
with my short game so if I can give
myself you know three four hours out
there to just kind of cram my short game
I play my best when I have trust and
confidence in my practice so I think
that little cram session will certainly
give me a lot of confidence on and
around the greens for Monday
it's kind of cool that I'm playing with
Zach and Luke they've paired all the
content creators together the tea times
they haven't sent them to us but if you
had paid attention to the YouTube videos
I guess which someone texted me Zach
told me we're playing we're playing
together
um a bit strange but whatever that's
just kind of part of this tournament
this is a professional golf tournament
but it's
it's YouTube It's a YouTube thing more
than it is or first then it's a
professional golf tournament because
there's a lot of things that are going
on in this tournament for this
tournament for the players
um that aren't are unlike any other
professional golf tournament like to
have
a qualifying round and then a day off of
filming and then two rounds of golf like
that's going to be very different for a
lot of the the touring Pros if they do
qualify that's going to be kind of
strange for them the six of us that are
content creators we're gonna be the most
comfortable with that so if we happen to
play well enough and kind of Catch Fire
and qualify we'll be most comfortable
with that day of filming and don't think
it'll drain us as much but those two
rounds I mean it's I heard something
that there's like basically they're
going to be filming they're gonna be a
cameraman for every player so that's a
whole other thing for a lot of the
players luckily for the the six of us
that are kind of the do YouTube the flow
of it will be something we're a bit more
comfortable with but we are certainly
The Underdogs when it comes to that
Monday qualifying round so going back to
what I said like a month ago can I win
it yes
is that a realistic probably not
definitely not like I'm gonna have to
Play Some solid golf on the Monday
probably shoot a couple under or better
the the strength of the field is there
the weather we don't know so I guess who
knows what the score will take so just
just play really good golf and make a
lot of birdies the actual tournament
rounds two days I'm gonna have to play
some of the best golf of my life
probably back to back which I can do who
knows I haven't played tournament golf
in a year uh my head space is it's
probably happier than it's ever been I'm
more comfortable with who I am as a
person and in my life
um so yeah maybe maybe but realistically
these are my expectations I want to go
out there and
and silence my nerves my anxiety
um my my self-doubt
I want to prove something to myself and
it's easy as I've been doing this
YouTube Journey especially documenting
when I did play full time it's easy to
think like I mean there's there's people
that are giving me shitty comments that
I suck and I don't have a chance at this
and part of you wants to be like
screw you I watch this but at the end of
the day that doesn't matter like
literally these are people I do not know
strangers complete strangers telling me
how that I don't have a chance like okay
cool thank you because there's complete
strangers saying good luck I hope you
play well so it's just like I wrestle
with that a little bit I'm not I'm I'm
human I'm gonna be honest but at the end
of the day my expectations are to do
something good for for myself and my
family I'm not for my career or not for
a while if I play well here that'll
Propel me to there which is how a lot of
mini tour players are and I was for the
longest time if I get a good stretch of
golf here that'll allow me to do this
that'll allow me to do that I mean yes I
want to play more tournament golf but I
watched my son full time and I make a
YouTube video a week
part-time for a fun hobby
playing competitive tournament golf is
not my life it's not my story anymore
maybe one day but I'm not rushing that
day and if that date doesn't come I'm
okay with that but like this this play
in Phoenix the good good Championship
it's just gonna be a good like litmus
test to my attitude my my focus and my
game and my headspace and all those
things so
um yeah we're hoping it's happening
right now we can't share while we're
there that's a whole other thing there's
ndas because these are YouTube videos
for good good that are coming out down
the road so I'm gonna be documenting I'm
gonna kind of Vlog my experience like
the good old days of a tournament but
that video won't come out until it's
allowed to come out
um so thanks for all the support and
hopefully I will see you on the other
side having made it to those Elite 12
and actually leaving Phoenix a little
bit a little bit cash in my jeans peace
