Selena Gomez and Janice LeAnn Brown share how meaningful it was to record a theme song in a studio for the first time. Selena reflects on singing the original “Wizards of Waverly Place” theme at the start of her career, while Janice talks about the surreal, magical experience of doing the same for the spin-off series. Plus, the cast answers some rapid-fire questions!
This was your first time ever recording a song, doing the theme song for the show.
Yes, ma'am.
I, my first song I ever recorded was the theme song of the original Wizards and then...
It was my first as well.
I always wanted to record a theme song.
So what, how different is it from, you know, just recording in general?
Oh, I think it was actually, I felt like cool.
I know, me too.
I was like, mom, take a photo of me.
I feel sweaty.
You're in the studio for the first time.
You're like, yeah.
The lights and everything.
It also feels fun.
I have yet to do that.
So I'm taking notes like, oh, what would that be like?
Well, I guess I got to sing this theme song.
But it's nothing like singing it for what y'all get to do it for.
Oh, no.
Are you kidding me?
It was amazing though.
We had fun.
They so chill about it.
Like, yeah, we did it.
Okay, okay.
Well, before you go, I want to ask each of you about, you know, something about yourself
because we want to learn something new about you.
Is that okay?
Yeah.
All right, I'm going to ask you what was the last time y'all did something
and you respond as best as you can.
Okay.
I think y'all can handle it.
Okay, last time you all text the wrong person.
Yesterday.
I have two Saras in my phone.
Okay.
And luckily, I didn't say anything about the others.
Oh, good thing you didn't.
How long did it take you to realize you were texting the wrong person?
When they said, I think you have the wrong person.
She needs some affection.
Probably last month.
I have a lot of unsaved numbers in my phone.
And that could get you in trouble.
I would get like, I would got like, because my birthday was last month
and I got like, happy birthday text and whatever.
And I'm really bad at responding.
Yeah.
And so I said, oh, thank you so much.
I thought it was my grandfather texting me.
And so I said, I love you so much, Papa.
And she was like, Papa?
I was like, oh, I don't know who you are, but I'm sorry.
I just didn't text them back afterwards.
Felicia was polite.
What about you, David?
Me, it was last week.
I had a couple unsaved numbers.
And the thing is, both unsaved numbers were stylists that I just worked with.
And I thanked the other for the clothes that the other had given me.
And it was just a very confusing back and forth for all of us.
I was confused too.
I figured it out eventually, but a little sticky.
We just wish y'all would text us, period.
It didn't matter, right?
You can call me whoever you want.
Last time you all tried a new weird food combo that you actually liked.
This morning, my husband was in the kitchen making all of these incredible
like dishes with shrimp and wrapped in like rice noodles and fried it.
And that was good.
It was good.
You should have brought us one.
I know.
I really should have.
I'm sorry.
That was selfish.
By the way, Selena, this is the first time we've been somewhere that you've said my husband.
I know.
Sorry to sidetrack here, but I remember when I first got married,
saying my wife casually was like such a powerful feeling.
It does feel pretty cool.
Does that feel cool?
Okay, last time you all lost your phone.
Daily.
Not like, not intentionally.
Just I'll leave it in the bathroom and I'll be, you know, in the living room.
It's more silly things like that.
Daily for me too.
I have three little kids.
Three, six, four, and three.
And yeah, they think they're little filmmakers.
They know how to turn the camera on and I'll just find my phone like on a bathroom floor
with like a full movie on it.
Most random things in the world.
That's cute.
It is pretty cute.
I save them all.
What about you, Denise?
Daily as well.
I think it's such an easy thing to lose.
I mean, I feel like all of us, I mean, to be fair, like,
we all have it in this day and time.
But I'll put it like, like she said, I'll put it somewhere.
I'll walk out, do something else.
And I'm like, where'd it go?
One time I was like, I was like yelling.
I was like, mom, where's my phone?
Where's my phone?
She went, and then I looked, it was in my pocket.
Yeah, that could happen.
See, when I do that, my kid called me old.
Like, mom, you know how they do us like that.
See, you proved that it's not an age thing.
Okay, we are, right?
Go and get us some love.
Okay, thank you.
Your happy place is here.
