Forest Edge House – Off Grid Solar Powered Home in the Catskills | Modern Sustainable Architecture
Discover the Forest Edge House, a fully solar-powered modern residence located in the serene forests of the West Catskills, New York. Designed by award-winning architect Marc Thorpe, this 1,500 sq ft contemporary home showcases a harmonious blend of sustainable technology, minimalist architecture, and deep respect for nature.
Set on a 3-acre forested site, the house features FSC-certified natural pine cladding, radiant floor heating, an open living–kitchen–dining plan, and a dramatic 25-foot cantilevered steel deck that extends into the surrounding tree canopy. Powered by 24 Monocrystalline solar panels, a 15K Sol-Ark inverter, and a LifePo lithium battery bank, Forest Edge generates up to 38 kWh of clean energy daily, offering true off-grid living.
More than a house, Forest Edge is a statement about autonomy, ecological responsibility, and the future of sustainable living. Through Edifice Upstate, Marc Thorpe and Claire Pijoulat envision a new model of contemporary housing—where architecture, technology, and nature exist in perfect balance.
