The Seagull 1963 Icon II came to me as a “beautiful mistake” – and what I found inside was more than just a chronograph. It was a story about heritage, craftsmanship, and a piece of history that you can pass on to the next generation.
Sometimes life gives you what you don't ask for, but what you want from your heart.
During the Watchgram Spotlight feature, where you share your watch pics in this community,
one morning an email comes from Srinagar, Jammu, Kashmir.
A gentleman shares a picture of his watch, which is a Seagull 1963.
I was like, wow, nice watch.
Someone is wearing this watch here as well.
But then I thought, I wish I had a Seagull watch as well.
Well, you must have heard of Seagull.
And if you haven't, that's okay.
Because today, as a Spotlight witness, I will tell you why the entire global community of watch enthusiasts
looks at the Seagull with a respectful gaze.
Well, its vintage vibe is so beautiful, that any fan of its beautiful machinery will become like this.
Orgasmically beautiful.
Well, some people will say that this is a Chinese watch.
But my point is simple.
When it comes to arts and craftsmanship, there is no limit there.
There is no country there.
Emotion is its real home.
Presenting Seagull 1963 Icon 2.
It's a piece of art.
Look at this.
The very next day, I got an email from Seagull.
And they want to do a collaboration for their new watch, Icon 2.
I was thinking, what's going on?
Has the entire universe joined the conspiracy again, like it did for me?
Because I loved this watch from the bottom of my heart one day.
And the next day, I have this opportunity.
Last year, Seagull launched Icon 1, which turned out to be the crowd's favorite.
So much so that it was sold out before the mint.
And this year, the launch of Icon 2.
That too, the original green and bronze color.
And the new color is the blue steel version.
Now, I thought, let's start this new partnership with a new color.
So I ordered the blue color variant.
That's when the story of UPS starts.
He got his KYC done online.
Then after that, tracking.
Then after a few days, it is delivered at home.
Although it is mentioned on the website that there is no custom duty.
But I had to pay about 1600 rupees here.
Well, I thought, leave it, man.
A masterpiece watch is coming.
For unboxing, full scene set.
I also wore my blue blazer, white shirt.
I was ready.
I saw the box with excitement.
Well, there is no blue color watch in the box.
But to my surprise, the green and bronze variant came out in that box.
I was shocked for two seconds.
But then I realized, you know.
Well, the blue version is not that bad, right?
It's an evergreen color.
It's a very safe color.
Change over the time.
This is a beautiful mistake.
Friends, why is this watch special?
The first reason is its mechanical chronograph heritage.
That is, decades ago, there used to be a company called Venus.
Which was a Swiss movement manufacturer.
Well, for some reason, during 1960,
they sent a Chinese watch factory to China.
All their tool kit designing, etc., etc.
Due to which, its evolution.
Today, the same movement is called ST-19 column wheel chronograph.
This means that China also made its first pilot chronograph on this movement.
And when this watch will be on your wrist,
it means you are wearing a Swiss legacy engineering.
The second reason is its manual wind ritual.
You know that most chronographs run on batteries, right?
But it needs to be filled every day.
It will create an addiction.
Because it will remind you of traditional watchmaking and traditional timekeeping.
When you wear this watch every day.
The third reason is its impossible value proposition.
When we talk about Swiss column wheel chronographs,
we are talking about watches which are worth 2-3 lakh rupees or above.
That is, so expensive.
And you get the same experience in this watch, which is at about 500 US dollars.
This means that the legacy, mechanical, and engineering with affordability.
The next reason is its bronze case.
With time, the patina will develop.
A different character will come in this bronze case.
It will look very unique.
One here is Icon 2 and the other is Icon 2.
Both will look different because of that patina.
This means that this watch is also going to grow with you over time.
The next reason is its top grain leather strap.
This means that I have a $1000 Hamilton and in front of it, this is very soft and better.
And in terms of feel, much more premium.
If we talk about size and comfort, then this is the perfect dial size 40mm.
And even better is the luck to luck weight, which is about 46mm.
Neither is it flashy nor is it heavy.
It is just made with a very balanced proportion.
The next reason is that it is a slimmer, better designed watch.
Why?
Because its luck to luck weight, especially is at 46mm.
It is going to sit very lovingly on every wrist.
It is also slimmer at about 12.7mm.
Wow, what to say, what an upgrade compared to last year.
And the biggest thing is that there is no moon phase complication in it.
Like it was in the previous edition.
This is a simple and a strong statement of a pure chronograph experience.
And the biggest thing about it is that its price to value proportion is very much well balanced.
At about $500, what you get is a Swiss column wheel chronograph with a top-notch leather strap.
Beautifully designed, ergonomically, everything from every angle, a very lovely looking watch.
I mean, I keep looking at such a watch.
Look at this.
Bhai, personally, the Rs. 1600 that I had to pay in custom, I am not at all sad about it.
Because I have got the perfect chronograph watch in my collection in this one.
Bhai, who should buy this watch?
First point, if you are addicted to watch engineering.
Second reason, you are not looking for hype in the watch, but you are looking for soul.
Third reason, you are a watch collector, not a follower.
Fourth reason, you want a forever timepiece in your collection.
Fifth reason, you feel the timepiece, not just wear it.
And the last reason, if you are looking for a watch that you can pass on to your next generation.
So this watch is a really, really, really strong contender.
Definitely not that watch.
This watch is a watch that understands more.
I mean, the day you understand a watch well,
then that watch is never going to go out of your collection.
Just like this watch will always be in my watch collection.
Friends, I say, don't ask for a wish sometimes.
I mean, feel it with your heart.
And for me, this is the watch.
Seagull 1963 Icon 2.
Which I feel, not just for me, but for my future generation too, this watch can become a legacy.
See you in the next video.
Till then, tick tick.
