Casa Trancoso | A Brazilian Cliff House with a 60m Rooftop and Cinematic Ocean Views

Vista House, designed by Studio MK27, is a breathtaking Brazilian seaside villa that frames the surrounding landscape “like a wide-angle camera.” Located in Trancoso, Bahia, the home sits atop a 46-meter cliff overlooking Brazil’s sculpted sea escarpments.

Led by architect and filmmaker Marcio Kogan, Studio MK27 conceived the 8,343 ft² residence as a pure celebration of horizon, proportion, and tropical materiality. From above, the elongated volume—with its 60-meter-long hand-carved wooden roof—acts as an architectural lens capturing the infinite blues of the Atlantic.

Enclosed only at its two ends, where the kitchen and master suite are placed, the house opens fully to the outdoors. A continuous open-air veranda stretches beneath the dramatic roof, connecting gardens on both sides and framing panoramic ocean views. Wrapped in eucalyptus staves and elevated by its gabled silhouette, the villa blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings.

Inside, a secondary “inner house” volume made from Viroc wood-cement panels contains four additional bedrooms. These panels fold open entirely, transforming the space from enclosed rooms into an outdoor pavilion. The restrained interior palette—creamy tones and warm wooden textures—contrasts with the organic roughness of the exterior.

Throughout the day, light interacts with perforated Viroc surfaces and slender biriba slats, creating poetic patterns of shadows across floors and walls. The oversized roof offers shade and weather protection, making every moment—rain or sun—feel connected to the landscape.

Vista House embodies Studio MK27’s mastery of tropical modernism, turning architecture into a cinematic experience shaped by horizon, shadow, and breeze.
