Snow Sport Savages, yes, that is you.
Stay tuned because today is a very amazing day.
We are skiing from Klein Matterhorn and we are taking the newly opened
ski crossing into Chavinia to the top of the chairlifts
going down to Plan Maison.
And you are coming with us.
So we've just come on to the glacier run.
And the first little bit of the glacier run, we have to get some speed up
because it's very slightly uphill here.
On my left, you'll see a large T-bar.
This is the summer ski zone.
So if you ski here as a beginner in summer,
this will be where you're skiing and where you're learning to ski.
If you're more advanced, you can drop down to the T-bar area
where the race lanes are for summer race training, pro training
and just normal skiing.
So we're skiing here.
We're on top of all of the glacier now.
And now we start speeding up to go down this red run
down to the T-bar zone.
As you can see on my right over here,
we can see a beautiful view of the Italian, Swiss and French Alps.
There's Mont Blanc to my right and Chamonix over there.
Now we're going to ski.
This is where the crevasse is.
You can really see the crevasses coming up on the left side.
So it's super important.
You're really vigil about where you're skiing up here
and staying on piste.
It's super tempting to duck the rope onto the fresh powder.
Please, please do not do that.
You're taking your own life in danger and potentially others.
This area here can get super bumpy
when it's later in the day
or you've had lots of people on the piste and you need to be super careful
as well, because there's children and beginners coming down here.
Once you've navigated this section,
we can just drop down towards the T-bar section.
And if you look to the left, you can really start to see the glacier
and how it looks and how it was formed.
Constantly moving.
This glacier is always changing, always opening and closing crevasses.
Now this is a super good sight.
Now we see, I think it's a Steezy Joe.
It is a Steezy Joe.
Well, that was a good sight to see.
That's Steezy Joe.
They're a mogul skier from the US.
They run mogul camps here.
So if you're interested in mogul skiing, look them up.
They're on YouTube.
And obviously they don't wear many clothes, so it's pretty fun as well.
So now we're in the summer T-bar zone.
So this is mainly the summer area for skiing.
But in the winter, the T-bars close and we just ski through.
So follow me to the Italian border.
You've got to chuck a really good left here under the T-bar.
So be super careful.
Make sure you go through the gap if people are using the T-bar.
And then we're on the long traverse to Testa Grigia,
which is the Italian border.
This traverse is like a blue run.
It's super easy, nice and wide,
and you get to practice your rolling your edges
and your balancing on this run.
So use it to your advantage.
Just coming up here on the left is the helicopter landing zone.
If you've booked a helicopter to drop you at the glacier,
this is where it will drop you just on the left behind this snowplough.
We're going to take route one into Cervinia, Italy,
but this is route two.
Route two is not open yet.
But if you were heading to Valtoneche, that's the route that you would take.
So we're just leaving Plateau Rosa, Testa Grigia,
and we're just heading down to Cervinia.
But we have to ski on route one.
We have to ski as though we're going back to Zermatt
and then look out on the left side for the turning into Cervinia.
So be careful not to over ski the turning.
Again, we're in the middle of a crevasse field.
Loads and loads of crevasses to my left and right.
So be super careful.
Don't duck the rope.
Don't take any chances.
This is a nice flat ski,
but make sure you get some speed up before you make the left turn.
So here we go.
Just on the left here is the sign to Cervinia with the big yellow and black arrow.
Here we go.
You're going to need some speed to get up the hill here.
And we've made it to the top of the hill without pushing, which is fantastic.
Conserve energy.
This area here skiing down to the border is a little bit more narrower.
So be super careful to take your time.
Look at the signs.
They're there for a reason.
In peak periods and busy times,
this can get very tracked out and bumpy.
So now it's time to take your time.
Make your turn, slow yourself down.
And when you get through this chicane with the fences,
then you let yourself go and in
and across the border.
We're now in Italy.
No passport required.
The ski slope flattens out here before it drops away again.
So you might need a couple of little pushes or skates
just to get up to this area here.
Now we're in Cervinia.
You can see the backside of the Matterhorn now
just up here.
And now you can see all the way down to Plan Maison
on my right side.
So we're going to ski down through three chairlifts.
When you take this route down, it's narrow.
It can get icy when there's not been a lot of snowfall.
So be careful.
Take your time.
Make your turns and make sure you're safe.
Now the slope opens up a little bit
so you can start to make bigger turns.
And now we're just going to look down
to Bontatini, which is our first chairlift entrance.
We're going to keep skiing down all the way to Plan Maison
past the three chairlifts.
Really nice, wide open pieces here.
You can really get some speed and some nice carve turns.
But make sure on each roller
you slow down and make sure there's no one below.
We're heading past a restaurant called Bontatini.
This is a preseason and early season favorite
as one of the first restaurants to open in Cervinia for the season.
So use the slope down here.
If it's empty, enjoy it, but it can get busy.
So be careful and use your turn shape to slow yourself down.
Right here on these slopes in Italy, there's often beginners.
So it's super important that you respect the people
that are trying to learn to ski and with their instructors.
You'll often find people standing on the side of the slope
or sometimes they've stopped in the middle.
But remember, we all started somewhere and we was all a beginner once.
Now we go past the second chairlift
and down to the Plan Maison chairlift.
As you can see to my left here, we've got some beginners.
Just as I said earlier.
So just go past slowly.
Don't race past them.
Remember, they're nervous and they're learning to ski.
Now we have some free space.
Nice open, wide slope.
Now we can open it up.
This section here flattens out a little bit.
So it's time for a well-earned rest where you can just relax a little bit
before the next dip comes down.
As you can see, we've got some snow making on
just to freshen up the slopes while we're waiting for new snow.
Now Plan Maison comes into sight directly ahead of me.
Again, super big area for beginners.
So be aware and be careful.
Slow down on the rollers.
Take a look and then go.
So from Klein Matterhorn down to Chavinia Town,
it's one of the longest runs we have here clocking in at 17 kilometers,
which is actually phenomenal.
An amazing amount of skiing without going on a lift.
That's why Zermatt and Chavinia is so well known.
The skiing here is fabulous.
So we have some pro training coming up, just doing some drills.
So we're going to slow down and make sure we don't go by them super quick.
And now the slope is open.
Now we can begin our turns and begin to enjoy the run down to Plan Maison.
The Plan Maison station is huge and it's a real mid station for Chavinia.
So it's a real meeting hub with restaurants
and a chairlift coming out of it with a bubble lift going up to Chima Bianchi,
which both of these lifts will take you back to Zermatt
and over to the Swiss border.
You can start to see down to the Aosta Valley
and over to my right is Love Chavinia, a favorite place of ours to visit.
You can see the beginner button lift on my left side.
And we've made it to Plan Maison in Chavinia.
Welcome. So how do you return to Zermatt?
Well, you can take the Plan Maison chairlift,
which is a route of three chairlifts to the summit before you can enter
Switzerland again.
Or you can take the bubble of the Plan Maison station,
which will take you to Chima Bianchi and you can catch the cable car
all the way back to the summit to enter Switzerland again.
No, but it's been an idea of mine.
You have to give them information about.
So we've reached the top of the third chairlift in Chavinia on route one
back to Zermatt in Switzerland.
Now I'm going to take you across the border.
And we are back in Zermatt, Switzerland.
Follow to make sure you don't miss our film
when we take you all the way down to Zermatt town.
