Highlights from Round 2 of the 2025 BMW Australian PGA Championship,
This has come out beautifully.
Yes!
You can say that again, Ham, what a way for Mark Leishman to bound up the leaderboard
with an eagle out of the sand and suddenly he is within three shots of the lead and equal
second place.
Well that was a masterclass, wasn't it Ali, because I think he took his lower lofted sand
iron there and made a more rounded swing, I'm sure we're going to get a replay of that
at some stage, but he chased it up there, you can see the dark grass that he's got landed
into, that means he's into the grain.
It's a more rounded swing, it came out quite low, a couple of bounces, a little bit of
check, does not get any better.
He's at me bone rack, he's going to hold that long bomb, oh he's very nearly holed it from
the tee on the next hole.
Petter and Martin on the party hole.
The pen just started so strongly, Paul Gouw.
Yeah, 1.47 here on the fourth, there's no breeze to be had right at the moment, you
guys are flicking only into a 9.9 and this has gone so high in the air, but on a good
line.
Mark Leishman in as well, here he is in the sit, down the fairway, going to attack that
back flag.
Oh, that's so nearly dropped in.
Here at five pin on the front right today, as he dialed yet again, oh, it would have
been too much to ask, wouldn't it?
Brian Fox nails his wedge into one.
Up to the party hole and Fenix Campbell, can he get this one to roll, he loves it up here
in Queensland.
He was trying to win for three times in a row last week, wasn't he?
Back to the action here at two, Marco Penge in his second shot.
What a shot.
Only from 73 metres, for a big hitter, that's some sort of touch.
Now over to Smith, great angle here, Nick, and he's just seen Penge's ball stop and he's
only 77 metres here, and that is off on a great line, he's hit this a bit high up, just
needs to travel.
Oh, yeah.
He's in this shape, being up well today.
Minwoo, a little bit closer here, and this ball's coming out nice and low, will get to
the hole.
Oh, that's incredible.
Things are stacking up quite nicely for us, aren't they?
Off it goes, quickly in for Fox.
Yeah, don't blink, you'll miss it, 119 on a good line.
Perfect from Ryan Fox there at three.
Back to the fourth for Marco Penge.
Great read.
What a start from one of the big names.
You beauty.
And it is near on perfect.
The 2013 and 2019 champion, Adam Scott, to start with a flush.
A very positive putt for Adam Scott, who by his own admission has struggled on the greens.
Adam Scott for Birdie.
That one drops.
Like the one at the first dip or the fumble, down two either way, he's been peppering the
flag in the first three holes.
130 metres.
Fantastic shot.
Depends how brave he wants to be here with only 107.
Yeah, because that pin is only three from the right.
And that needs to go a little.
Well, it certainly is.
Well, he is dialled in today.
I knew that was in.
About two feet out.
Pinch.
Slightly left to right.
Yeah, nothing in this.
Not even a touch.
He's been on song today with his putt up.
In again.
Well, that's four out of five.
What an impressive start from the Englishman.
There's the putt on the fifth.
He's a little closer than Adam Scott.
What a roll and what a start from Ryan.
Best golfer of his career.
Make another birdie.
You bet he can.
Let's go back to seven now with Daniel Hillyer.
What touch from the Kiwi.
So Hilly rolling that in for Eagle.
So he had to chip out.
So this is his third shot in the seven.
New holder of a DP World Tour card for the season 2026.
And that is a superb shot.
Imagine what that birdie could be.
Absolutely incredible.
Now Brazil's Fred Biondi.
The Brazilians can party.
Only 219 for this young man.
And that is on a solid line.
Left of the pin.
Nice bounce off the shoulder of the bunker.
Without pin A with an iron.
Two on nine into the wind.
Welcome to 2026.
148 is on a good line here.
He's taken direct access to this pin.
What a shot.
Insanely good.
Here's one of your mates Nick.
Always great to see him on the course.
Drawing like over 50 these days.
Quail.
Watch that one up.
Exceptional.
And it catches that right edge.
He's canned another.
Another one for the rank and files.
Kazuma Kobori.
Coming from everywhere to make a run.
That for his fifth birdie of the day.
Look at that move from Kazuma Kobori.
Order of merit winner here on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia himself.
Hal Vossen who's had a birdie on the party hole.
He's having to back it up on 18.
It's looking very good.
That's a five on the trotters, is it not?
Eagle, birdie, birdie in the last four holes.
Track man thanks to Rolex.
Now Bairstow.
Golf TA to the world.
It's a long play down off the tee.
What a golf shot.
It's averaging slightly over its par over the two days as well.
All these players are only getting a wedge into this green.
He's got it there.
And in.
It's the sort of par 50 make a big difference at the end of the day here.
Starting out on an aggressive line.
And aggressive he was.
He knows the situation.
Check one of the boxes.
It's aggressive too.
That flag there at 17 with that trio.
Now Kobori is putting stroke.
Quickly in Ryan Fox.
Sandwich from 113 looks great.
Looks even better now.
Hopefully he can finish on a high because the last hour and a half.
Just about wrapping up our day.
It's been a long one.
And we made up for lost time.
Four players sharing the lead.
Ding, Kobori, Quail and Brett Rankin.
Queenslander.
He's had the luxury of sitting back.
And watching the others try and reach the score posted.
69 followed by an 8 under round of 63 today.
How do you reflect on your opening 36 holes here in Brisbane?
Pretty happy for the most part.
Yesterday was a bit frustrating.
I had a hole in one but didn't really do much apart from that.
But I made up for it today so it was good.
You've just birdied the last four holes to take the lead.
Can you talk me through that closing stretch?
Yeah, the wind dropped off quite nicely.
So I knew coming in 15, 16, 17 was good opportunities.
Because I knew I had wedges in my hands.
So I hit a few close and then was able to birdie 18 as well.
Which was a nice bonus.
How was the reception on the 17th when you made that birdie?
Yeah, 17 was good.
I butchered the throw though. I went too short.
I reckon last year I went too deep and hit someone in the second row.
I didn't want that to happen.
I went short and then Broski didn't quite catch it.
But we have another chance tomorrow.
You had a great season last season, making the playoffs.
What are your learnings from that?
From making it into Abu Dhabi?
And what are you going to carry into the new season?
I think Abu Dhabi and Dubai were really good.
Obviously we play against great fields week in, week out.
But the Rolex Series are a little bit different in the fact that
you've got guys within the top ten of the world.
I was fortunate enough to play with Bob McIntyre
round three of Abu Dhabi.
Moving forward I want my standards to be what he does.
Trying to be a bit harder on myself with good shots and bad shots.
That was a great learning experience in the way that
moving forward I know what is required to perform at that level.
Obviously you're not at home, but you're not too far from home.
How good is it to be back in Australia to kick start the 2026 season?
What can you tell me about Royal Brisbane itself?
Really good.
RIQ is a great golf course.
More so the people that are out here.
The crowds are so big this week.
All the players, we love playing in front of a good crowd.
Hopefully it gets better over the weekend.
You finished 15th here last season.
I played good last year.
Last year I got reduced to 54 holes.
Hopefully that doesn't happen.
Hopefully thunderstorms and hail stay away.
We'll see.
Good luck this weekend. Thanks for your time.
