Nestled among the leafy streets of Brisbane’s inner west, Novus is a striking architectural home that celebrates the beauty of material contrast.
Developed by Sunstone Property Group, this contemporary family residence pairs off-form concrete with rich timbers to create a moody, tactile atmosphere that defines modern sophistication.

Something that Sunstone does which stands out is we do take our time and we make sure that
everything is done correctly. When we take on a project we want to ensure that we can deliver
a project that is timeless and that people can enjoy for at least 10 years and more.
And it does take a lot of care to make those finishes and the house feel like a home and
therefore we do obviously always recognise that we can't do this without a team.
So I'm Franco and I'm the Operations Director here at Sunstone.
Today we're sitting in Novus in Orkham Flower.
Novus means beginning in Latin and I think it's very fitting for the project
as it's our first under the Sunstone banner.
Working with Anu on the design we really wanted to use these natural timbers and timeless and
quality products and getting that all together to seamlessly match the design was challenging
but I think even though we have harsh elements like the concrete walls,
we do have some materials and design features that really soften the space
and that can really be seen around the house.
G'day I'm Phil, I'm the Construction Director at Sunstone Property Group.
The architect has designed the house perfectly for its north-facing aspect
with all the glazing that can enable the natural light to enter the house.
Open windows and doors, the courtyard,
the outdoor entertaining area is perfectly suited for the north-facing aspect.
You need to have people on the same wavelength or mentality to execute a project like this.
Our team that we've had on this all have the same mindset of
myself and Franco where we just want everything to be perfect.
You'll notice there is a lot of bold and strong materials throughout Novus
to symbolise just the pure beauty of a raw natural product
and the effort and time that went into building it all is well worth the result.
During the design process and working with the interior designers,
choosing a dominant colour like brushed gunmetal was very important to get right with all the
other tones within the rooms and the selections of all the finishes
and this is something that I think has been achieved.
Having a luxurious home like Novus that's architecturally designed,
we still feel like it caters for all families even though it's such a big house.
With the void and the courtyard and all the rooms that interconnect,
it still makes it feel very intimate.
Now that we have completed Project Novus, Franco and I are not only relieved but
proud of what we have created.
Sunstone's future is very exciting for me as I feel like this is just the beginning
and one day having a line-up for people that want to secure a Sunstone home
won't be out of reach if we keep going with the care and the build quality that we've achieved.
