Elon Musk Revealed Big Upgrade on Raptor 4 Shocked NASA...
Imagine standing beneath a rocket so powerful it could lift the weight of more than a hundred fully loaded passenger jets at once. That is the scale of SpaceX’s next evolution in rocket technology: The Raptor 4 engine. It is not just an upgrade; it is a complete leap forward. With 330 tons of thrust and the potential to power future boosters with over eleven thousand five hundred tons at liftoff, this engine is in a league of its own. And here is the most surprising part: it is ten times cheaper than its predecessor, the Merlin engine, which was already known for being simple, light, and incredibly cost-effective. Raptor 4 is set to redefine space travel forever.
But have you ever imagined that SpaceX designed Raptor based on the principles of Elon Musk’s favorite game?
Why does this evolution of Raptor matter? Why does it matter to NASA, to the Artemis missions, and to the dream of sending humans to Mars?
Find out the answers in today's Techmap episode!

To understand what makes Raptor 4 so groundbreaking, we need to look back at the evolution of SpaceX engines.
Elon Musk and his team have always approached engineering like a strategy game. They treat every new version of the Raptor as a new round in that game, where lessons learned turn into immediate improvements. That mindset has allowed them to move faster than anyone else in aerospace.
The Raptor 3 has already achieved an incredible level of performance. It produced around 280 tons of thrust, matching the record of the Falcon’s Merlin engine in terms of thrust-to-weight ratio. But SpaceX did not stop there. The Raptor 4 pushes that number to around 330 tons. That is an 18 percent jump in power over its predecessor. When you multiply that across the thirty-three engines mounted on a Super Heavy Booster, you get roughly ten thousand eight hundred ninety tons of thrust. If the design adds two more engines, that number breaks eleven thousand five hundred tons of total liftoff power.

For perspective, the Saturn 5 rocket that carried Apollo astronauts to the Moon generated about 3.400 tons of thrust. The Raptor 4 powered Starship will produce more than triple that amount. It is raw, unstoppable power that completely reshapes what a rocket can do.
This boost in strength means Starship Version 4 can be bigger, heavier, and capable of carrying over two hundred tons into orbit. The entire vehicle could reach around one hundred fifty meters in height. The upper stage alone grows by nearly ten meters, expanding its pressurized volume and giving crews more room than ever before. In total, the crewed version of Starship Version 4 could offer over one thousand cubic meters of pressurized space, which is about ten percent larger than the entire International Space Station. That means more space for equipment, laboratories, and life support, all powered by the next generation of engines.
