This mission is shaping up to be unlike any test flight we have seen before. The uniqueness of Flight 12 does not come from how SpaceX will conduct the flight itself, but from the many new factors and systems that will come into play throughout the process.
Since this is the first V3 flight, the overall mission profile will remain familiar. The vehicle will lift off, climb to the upper atmosphere, and separate into two stages. The Super Heavy booster will return and attempt a controlled descent, most likely ending with a soft landing in the ocean. Meanwhile, the Starship upper stage will continue into orbit, deploy its payload, perform additional in-space demonstrations, then re-enter Earth’s atmosphere and attempt a controlled landing.
