Former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James ask a federal judge on Thursday to drop the criminal charges against them, arguing that President Trump's hand-picked U.S. attorney, who obtained the indictments against them, was unlawfully appointed.

Federal employees could be seen returning to work in Washington on Thursday, the morning after President Trump signed legislation ending the 43-day government shutdown, the longest in U.S. history.
