On your mark, get set, go, on a Bible adventure. Hi friends, guess what? I just got invited to a Christmas party, yippee! I can't wait for all the Christmas presents and Christmas lights and Christmas cookies. Oh, Shine! Wee! Hi Marty, hiya friends! Hi Shine, look! It's an invitation to a Christmas party, but I don't know where it is yet. That must be a surprise. Can I read it? It says, what is Christmas all about? Go on a Bible adventure to find out. At the end, we'll have a party. On your mark, get set, go Marty! Frosty, Flamingos, Shine, I think there's a clue in there. The question must be, what is Christmas all about? All right, let's go on a Bible adventure to find the answer. Friends, shake your hands high in the sky if you'll go with me, woohoo! Now, pretend to put on your adventure bags. I'm all set. Shine, which picture passes will help us? Let's see what's in the trunk. Friends, you and I will be picture pass guessers together. Here's your first clue. This is a sweet treat you eat on your birthday. Friends, which picture pass is it? Shine, my friends and I think your clue is for birthday cake, but that cake isn't ready for a birthday party. What does that cake need, Marty? A birthday cake needs to be on a plate. Oh, and it needs candles. I think that's it. Friends, let's make a birthday cake together. On the count of three, we're all gonna shout, happy birthday. Ready? One, two, three, happy birthday. Great job, friends. It's the birthday cake, yum, yum. Catch it in your adventure bag. All right, Shine, what's next? This is a card that invites you to a party. Friends, which one is it? You're right, it's the invitation. That looks just like the invitation I got today. Catch it in your adventure bag. Now for your last clue. You can wear this on your head at a birthday party. Friends, what do you think it is? You've got it, it's the party hat. Catch it in your adventure bag. Friends, count with me. One, two, three, yep, they're all here. Now, let's zip our adventure bags together. Now it's time to fly. Whoa, whoa. Ooh, it's cold. All right, Shine, how can a birthday cake, yum, yum, an invitation and a party hat help us find the answer to the question, what is Christmas all about? Let's look in the Bible. It's a great place to start. The Bible is God's book for you. You can trust it's right and true. The first Christmas gift. This story is from the book of Luke. In the Bible, it's all about when Jesus was born. I can't wait to learn more. Come on, friends, let's watch. The angel Gabriel told Mary, you will have a baby. How, asked Mary, I'm not married. God's Holy Spirit will come down to you. The baby will be God's son. Mary believed him. Mary was engaged to Joseph, but he didn't believe her story. So an angel visited him too. Mary's not lying. Her baby will be God's son. You must name him Jesus. Many months passed. Then they traveled to Bethlehem, Joseph's hometown, to be counted by the government. After that long journey, Mary was ready to give birth. But all the inns in Bethlehem were full. So God's son was born in a stable, wrapped in cloths and laid on a bed of hay. They named him Jesus. That night, an angel appeared to some shepherds in the hills near Bethlehem. Good news, the angel said. Your savior has been born. He's in Bethlehem lying in a manger. Suddenly, more angels appeared, so many of them that they filled the skies. Praise God in heaven, they all sang, and may everyone who pleases him receive his peace. When the angels left, the shepherds hurried to Bethlehem. They found the baby, their savior, lying on a bed of hay. It was just as the first angel had said. After the shepherds had seen Jesus, they went through the town. They were very excited. They told everyone what had happened, and they praised God for what he had done. Huh, that was not what I expected from the first Christmas. The first Christmas was full of surprises. No one could have guessed Jesus would be born in a stable. Yeah, or that angels would fill the sky. But where were all the Christmas presents and Christmas lights and Christmas cookies? And I still don't know the answer to the question, what is Christmas all about? Maybe Brit the Bible gal can help. That's a great idea. Okay, see you later, Marty. See you, Shine, come on. Oh. Wow. Hi, Brit. Hi, Marty. Hi, friends. You look like you're on a Bible adventure. We sure are, and we're looking for the answer to the question, what is Christmas all about? Oh, I know the answer. Christmas is all about Jesus. That's right. But if Christmas is all about Jesus, then what about presents and lights and cookies? You know, Christmas stuff. Maybe a picture pass will help. Good idea. Here they are. Friends, which picture pass is a sweet treat you eat on your birthday? Super job, friends. It's the birthday cake, yum, yum. You might have a cake to celebrate at a surprise birthday party. Oh yeah, and Christmas celebrates Jesus's birthday. It was full of surprises. Everyone was expecting a king. No one guessed he would be born as an itty bitty baby on the first Christmas. Surprise. That's what it says in my favorite book, the Bible. Brit, do you know any Bible verses about Christmas surprises? You know I do. Friends, wiggle your ears if you're ready to learn a verse with me. I'm wiggling my ears. Are you wiggling yours? Listen to what it says in the Bible. Luke 2 11. Today in the town of David, a savior, that's Jesus, has been born to you. Surprise. Friends, say the verse with me. Luke 2 11. Today in the town of David. A savior, that's Jesus. Has been born to you. Surprise. Has been born to you. Surprise. That's it, friends. Now say the whole verse with us. Luke 2 11. Today in the town of David, a savior, that's Jesus, has been born to you. Surprise. Great job, friends. Thanks, Britt. That verse will help me remember that Christmas is all about the best gift ever, Jesus. Surprise. Bye, Marty. Bye, friends. Come on. Friends. We're planning a surprise Christmas party at Marty's house later. Can you help us surprise him when he gets back from his Bible adventure? I can't wait. See you there. What are you and your Aunt Petunia doing for Christmas, Xenia? We're going to visit her sister. And I think my cousin Lily might make it home in time for Christmas, which would be really exciting because- Surprise. Oh, Lilo. Merry Christmas, Blinky. What's the surprise? Huh? What do you mean? Uh. See you later. I had spent all day picking just the right present for everyone. And then all of a sudden- Surprise. Hi, Blinky. What's the surprise? Why does everybody keep asking me that? Blinky, what do you think the word surprise means? You yell it to make people happy. Surprise. See? Don't you feel happy? I do feel happy. But a surprise is more than that. Like when something happens that you couldn't guess. Oh, yeah. Like at my birthday party. My friends were at my house and I didn't even know. There was no way I would have ever guessed they were there. That's right. And what did we all yell when you flew in? Surprise. And boy, oh boy, was I surprised. The first Christmas was a big surprise too. People thought Jesus would come to earth big and strong, ready to be our savior and king. No one could have guessed that Jesus would be born as an itty bitty baby on the first Christmas. It was a huge surprise. Whoa, that's super-nee-duper. I want to thank God for it. Friends, will you pray with me? Dear God, thank you for the best surprise ever. When Jesus was born on the first Christmas, in Jesus' name, amen. So Blinky, are you ready to celebrate Jesus' birthday? You bet I am. Surprise. Hi friends. I'm so glad Brit helped us find the answer to the question, what is Christmas all about? Say the answer with me. Ready? Christmas is all about Jesus. The birthday cake, yum yum, reminds me that Jesus' birthday was full of surprises. A sky full of angels, a stable, and a teeny tiny baby. All those surprises made me think of the Bible verse Brit taught us. Friends, say it with me. Luke 2.11. Today in the town of David, a savior, that's Jesus, has been born to you. Surprise. Great job. Peppermint penguins? That sounds like Mr. Music. I wonder if he knows any songs about Christmas. Let's go. Hey there, Marty. Hi, friends. Hey, Mr. Music. Friends, are you ready to help us surprise Marty for our super special Christmas party? OK. When Marty walks in, we're going to yell, surprise. Oh, here he comes. Surprise. Oh, wowee. Brit, Mr. Music, Shine, what an amazing surprise. We wanted to celebrate Christmas with you in a super special way. And what better way to celebrate than with a surprise. Hooray. So did you find the answer to the question, what is Christmas all about? I sure did. Let's all say it together. Christmas is all about Jesus. Great job. And did Brit teach you a Bible verse? I sure did. Friends, let's say it for Shine. Luke 2 11. Today in the town of David, a Savior, that's Jesus, has been born to you. Surprise. That first Christmas was full of surprises. What did you learn about the picture passes? The birthday cake, yum yum, reminds us that Christmas is all about Jesus's super surprising birthday. Jesus is a great surprise to celebrate. The invitation reminds us that Jesus invites us to follow him as our Savior. Jesus wants to live in our hearts and be our forever friend. We just have to say yes to his invitation. But I never figured out the party hat. At a party, you can choose to put on a hat to celebrate. Just like you can choose to follow Jesus. When you do, you have something to celebrate. I see. Following Jesus is the best way to celebrate Christmas. Even better than Christmas presents, Christmas lights, and Christmas cookies. Can we put on party hats and celebrate right now? Of course. Happy birthday, Jesus. Before we cut the cake, let's pray that our friends remember Christmas is all about Jesus. Thanks, Shine. Friends, bow your heads and close your eyes. We're going to talk to God together. Dear God, thank you for Jesus. Please help us remember that Christmas is all about him. In Jesus's name. Amen. It's time to go. We'll see you next time. For another Bible adventure. Bye, friends.
