SpaceX Officially Announced Starship Flight 12 Launch Date! No More Launch this year, but…
SpaceX has officially confirmed the launch date for Flight 12, sparking excitement and anticipation for the next major step in the Starship program.
At the same time, Jared Isaacman’s nomination for NASA Administrator could usher in a new era of commercial collaboration within the agency.
Meanwhile, China’s Tiangong Space Station has faced a delay after its Shenzhou spacecraft reportedly collided with space debris, highlighting growing orbital safety concerns.
From SpaceX’s progress to NASA’s leadership shift and China’s latest challenge, the global space race is accelerating. Let’s dive into it all on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.

Almost a month has passed since Starship Flight 11, and naturally, all eyes are now turning toward the next big milestone: Flight 12. When Flight 11 took off on October 13, there were still more than two months left in the year, giving many people—including myself—hope that we might see one more Starship launch before year’s end. That launch, expected to debut the highly anticipated V3 version of the vehicle, would have made for a spectacular conclusion to 2025. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case.
SpaceX’s Vice President of Launch, Kiko Dontchev, has now confirmed that Starship Flight 12 will likely launch in January 2026. This announcement officially closes the door on another Starship flight in 2025. While that may disappoint fans, it also marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the program. Starship’s timeline will now be more clearly defined, with Version 1 covering the early development years up to the end of 2024, Version 2 representing the advancements made throughout 2025, and Version 3 beginning in 2026. According to internal projections, the next major iteration, V4, may take flight as early as 2027.

The delay appears to be primarily related to hardware readiness. The Super Heavy booster designated B18 has yet to begin testing. Recent progress shows its forward section outfitted with an upgraded hot-staging ring, but it has not yet rolled to the pad. According to Kiko Dontchev, that step is expected within “days to weeks.” Once it does, B18 will first undergo cryogenic testing at the Massey Test Site, which now includes a fully installed Booster Quick Disconnect system. This test will mark the first demonstration of V3’s new hardware and ground integration systems.
If the schedule holds, cryogenic testing could be completed by mid-November, followed by engine installation toward the end of the month. Afterward, B18 would move to Pad 2 for a static fire test, where it will ignite its full complement of engines for the first time. Upon completion, the booster will return to the Mega Bay for detailed inspection and final integration work. For now, it seems the booster’s schedule remains within reasonable bounds to meet a late-year launch—at least on paper.
