The leader of the Civil Society Party Daniel Sonesson has had his private Facebook account permanently blocked without any explanation Han discovered the suspension on Thursday after the platform requested additional security checks and then completely blocked his account Oh that's it Then suddenly an email popped up in my inbox half an hour later and said Thank you but we have reviewed this however we will not change our decision and you cannot appeal this as we have permanently disabled your account All that they said And it is completely remarkable I am the leader of the fastest growing party I have not received any warnings at all that anything would be wrong It is therefore a social media platform a giant that strongly influences the democratic debate Oh and I'm also a paying member of Meta Verified So that I can have access to extra services from Facebook and completely without warnings which by the way is a violation of their own policies So there are so many things that are really worth questioning I would say it's both scandalous and dangerous He says he first suspected an attempt at intrusion but then realized that Facebook itself had shut down the account According to Sonesson he has not received any warnings or information about which post or content would have violated the platform's rules It's precisely that which is remarkable It would have been a completely different matter if one had perhaps pointed out a specific content or a specific post Oh I said that this post here might be misunderstood or maybe a video contained sensitive content or something like that It can happen and one must of course respect that It hasn't been like that There hasn't been any warning any explanation or any indication of a special post You cannot appeal this But when you try to contact them through various support channels they just send you to a generic help page where it's completely impossible to get in touch with Facebook Sonesson says the incident raises questions about political censorship and freedom of speech on social media especially during an election campaign Yes I actually dislike being conspiratorial But I find it very strange that the leader of a party namely Sweden's fastest growing party and the largest party outside of parliament They can be banned from the world's leading social media giant without any warning I am also a paying member I pay Facebook for a service But there have been many others who have been suspended before I don't need to tell anyone that this is a problem So because of this I would definitely say that we have a problem with the open conversation today It must really be made clear with all strength how bizarre it is This is not a way a social media platform should or even be allowed to act in this manner People wonder what forces are behind it honestly The citizens' assembly has contacted the security police to investigate the incident The purpose according to Sonesson is to ensure that no external actors or political motives are behind the shutdown It's not about me being the one who got canceled In my opinion no person should be canceled But now in the early stages of the campaign it's about influencing and controlling our democracy Five people representing growing political movements in the middle of an election campaign This is a threat to democracy But then one cannot rule out that it is a matter that may be of potential significance even for the security police Well it's our responsibility to initiate such contact
