You may know by now that American Eagle will begin flying from Miami to Bimini in the Bahamas.
Beginning on February 14th, it will operate three weekly flights using Envoy Air Embraer E175s.
Serium data shows the market last had non-stop flights by Bahamas Air in 2018. Of course,
American will benefit from huge connectivity via Miami, although it is not a fortress hub.
Miami-Bimini is a pretty short route, but what are the 10 shortest offered by American Airlines
and its regional subsidiaries? We take a look for today's video.
American Airlines, including its regional unit, plans to serve 44 Caribbean destinations in 2026.
Miami-Bimini, which has never been part of the One World Members Network, is notable because
it will become American's new shortest route by distance. At just 56 nautical miles, or 104
kilometers each way, the service will just about replace the carrier's current shortest service,
which is from Chicago-O'Hare to Milwaukee. You can see the 10 shortest routes with the table
shown here. Third place goes to Charlotte-Greenville-Spartanburg at 65 or 120.
Next are Charlotte-Greensboro and Philadelphia-Harrisburg,
both having a distance of 73 nautical miles or 135 kilometers.
Sixth spot is Charlotte-Columbia at 76 nautical miles or 141 kilometers, and this is followed
by Dallas-Fort Worth to Waco with a distance of 77 nautical miles or 143 kilometers.
Eighth spot is Charlotte-Asheville at 79 nautical miles or 146 kilometers,
while ninth spot is Charlotte-Florence at 87 nautical miles or 161 kilometers.
Finally, the tenth shortest route operated by the American Airlines group connects Dallas-Fort Worth
and Tyler. This has a distance of 89 nautical miles or 165 kilometers.
Charlotte-Greenville-Spartanburg is the carrier's shortest route on mainline jets. However,
Sirium indicates that these have just one in 10 departures on the airport pair between next
February and July. Charlotte-Greensboro also sees American mainline aircraft like the A319 and A320,
although going down the list we can see that all remaining flights and services are operated by
regional subsidiaries and their regional aircraft, including Piedmont, Envoy Air,
SkyWest, and PSA Airlines. We can see that SkyWest operates the CRJ700, Piedmont the ERJ145,
and Envoy Air uses the E175. PSA operates the CRJ700 slash CRJ900.
So, that's the list, at least according to data retrieved in mid-September 2025.
As always, things are subject to change. But have you taken any of these flights? Or,
for future services like Miami-Bimini, will you fly any of these in the future?
