MIHÁLY MUNKÁCSY Hungarian painter (1844 - 1900) * Ferenc Liszt / Consolation No.3.
Mihály Munkácsy (1844-1900) is the most famous artist in Hungarian art history both at home and abroad. His fame was founded on his unprecedented success for a Hungarian artist, and the almost novel-like twists and turns of his life. From a poor orphaned carpenter's apprentice, he became an artist prince, a knight of the Order of Honor to whom the king bestowed a noble title, who always returned home to his homeland with joy, who remained only Miska in Paris, he was surrounded by a real cult in Hungary during his lifetime. The effect of this is still felt today.
Music: Ferenc Liszt
The artistic friendship between Ferenc Liszt and Mihály Munkácsy was well-known. As early as 1882, Liszt performed his Rhapsody No. 16 (which he dedicated to the painter) at a concert held in honor of Mihály Munkácsy at the Pesti Vigadó. On this occasion, the painter invited Liszt to his studio in Paris to paint his portrait.
