50 Cent is a rap superstar and self-made mogul worth an estimated $1 billion dollars! He sits down with “Extra’s” Mona Kosar Abdi to dish on his media empire and his latest venture partnering with Lalique for their ultra exclusive 505 Edition Branson Cognac. 50 also reacted to getting a shout-out on Taylor Swift’s latest album!
Look who I'm with. You don't need an introduction.
Hey, it's 50 Cent, baby.
You may know him as a Grammy-winning rap superstar.
But did you know the self-made mogul is worth nearly an estimated billion dollars?
And we go way back.
Who is this guy?
50 crashing our 2015 interview with Eminem in Extra's most watched video on YouTube.
Over 35 million views.
I was trying to get him to go on tour and then he was like,
I just don't want to go on tour and come back and like Hailey's grow.
I couldn't believe what he was saying because I was like,
you know how much money they can give us right now?
And then later, I came and we went to Hailey's wedding.
She done had a baby, now Atlanta's pregnant.
I just saw Atlanta's pregnant.
God damn, it went so fast, bro.
We really did just go on a tour and come back and now they're grown.
It's crazy.
He's a grandfather, not me.
Too smooth and still making headlines.
He was just name dropped in Taylor Swift's new song, Ruin the Friendship.
And you were so happy about that as well because you're like, she's popping.
It really is cool because when she makes the reference,
if you listen to the song, it's to what was going on in culture at that time.
The music, you couldn't miss it at that point.
That's why it was cool to me.
The shout out is the shout out, but what she was making reference to
is the period that no one was more prominent in music at that point.
Yeah, across genres.
Yeah, so it's exciting to have that.
I like her boyfriend too.
I like the team.
I like Casey.
I like the whole thing.
You're a Travis Kelce fan too?
Yeah.
Do you like them together?
I do, I do.
Oh, I love that.
I like it a lot better than the last thing he had going on.
Oh, okay.
It's a lot better.
Well, listen, if she sends you a wedding invitation, are you going to go?
I would make my way over there.
Oh, I love that.
And I also feel like you made it known that it was only,
you're the only artist who got a shout out on that album.
The whole album.
Yeah.
Super cool, right?
Yeah.
Any chance you'd make a song with her?
What?
We got to ask her because she's in the tribe.
You know how big Taylor Swift is right now?
She's huge.
She has to have a record that sounds like it might sound good with 50.
And 50 is still everywhere,
starting with his media empire built on the back of his hit
S.T.A.R.S. crime series, Power.
It alludes to me first now, right?
It was a project that very few believed in.
I went to Jimmy Kimmel.
You ain't going to believe this, right?
I sat there, I talked to him, and I was like,
yeah, you know, I got this thing going on.
It's crazy.
This TV show is amazing.
And he was like, well, what network?
And I was like, S.T.A.R.S.
And he was like...
That's the way he felt about S.T.A.R.S.
Later, I came back to see him, and he was like...
It's different, because it's number one in African-American,
Latino households.
The show spawned four spinoffs, including the upcoming
Power Origins.
Let's talk about your current projects.
Well, I have 40 projects across 12 different networks.
10 of them are going into production now.
Two film projects this year.
One, Moses is the Black, that I produced.
And the other, I performed as Bohrok in Street Fighter.
Which is huge.
Everyone grew up watching Street Fighter, playing Street Fighter.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That was cool, because the game resonated so strong.
And then in the UK, I have Fightland.
The Fightland project in the UK is currently in production,
it's filming now.
And I have...
What, November?
November comes, I have the Origins story starting for
Power Origin.
And November 7th, I have Force coming back on air.
So it's cool.
And I just launched 50 Ways to Catch a Killer with Fox Nation.
Each episode is its own special study in solving a murder.
Buckle up.
This one's a ride.
Okay, so walk me through your day, because how in the world
do you have 19 million jobs?
Because you're hosting that as well.
So please, walk me through your day.
What time do you wake up?
No, no, it's different days.
Okay.
Yeah, you know, doing different things on different days.
But a lot of the stuff, like the projects take longer
for them to get out.
Like there's 40 projects, there's 10 coming now.
So the other projects that are there, some of them will make it,
and some of them won't.
It's just the business, it's the way it works.
And then by the time they decide what made it and what didn't,
I would have sold them some more.
So is your brain just always working about new things
that you can think of?
You gotta stay doing something new, yeah.
His newest venture?
Partnering with Lalique for their 505 edition Branson Cognac.
It's ultra rare.
Oh, this is very expensive.
This is like, you know, Louis XIII has to move over for this right here.
A portion of the sales goes to charity, so 50 likes to give back.
But maybe not to the next generation of rappers.
Do you offer advice?
No.
No?
There's no reason for me to tell them the good stuff.
I'll save that for myself.
No, they're not competition.
It's just I have to have a relationship with them to tell them those things.
Like not just the first time a guy comes and he's an artist
and he's excited, I'm not just going to tell him.
I'm just going to say, yo, let me hear your record.
I'll listen to his music.
Something like that.
But that's too much information for them.
Where do you think you got it from?
Well, I think I already had it.
I think you did too.
I think I had it the whole time.
I just didn't have the opportunity to show it.
I just needed the money first.
That's right.
So you know what I'm talking about.
