Lisa's Homespuns are here and we are over the top excited!! Lisa will be paging through the pages of Urban Homestead Gatherings book and sharing all the beautiful quilts that show off the new wovens.
Hey everyone, it's Lisa from Criminal Gatherings. It's Thursday and we are live. I'm here with Michelle who is the shop manager.
Hello everybody. It feels like we've been forever since we've been here. Kaylee was sick last week so we didn't get to do a lot of videos.
But I have a few announcements before we get on with our show today.
And that is I want to remind everybody about our winter hours. Monday through Friday, 10 to 5.
It's going to change only until 5 o'clock during the winter. And then Saturday 9 to 3 and Sunday 11 to 3 as well.
And so far those hours have been working pretty good, right? Yep, they're working marvelous.
But just a little heads up, if you're coming from far away, just always give us a call to make sure, you know, with the weather and stuff, things change.
Just want to make sure we're open for you if we're coming, if you're coming.
Alright, so Starlight Gatherings pre-cuts are delayed. So we did get the Starlight Gatherings fabrics in.
We got almost all the kits cut. I think there's a few kits that use a fat quarter bundle.
So we may be waiting for those to come in to send those kits out for you. No, you changed your mind?
Okay, so everything is going out. We cut our own fat quarter bundles for, except for the ones with the honey buns, which is the one and a half inch wide.
So that one we're going to wait. So just be aware that if you ordered a fat quarter tower of it, those aren't in yet.
So we only cut for kits that use those, but we don't, we want you to get your Moda bundle, not one that we put together.
So that's why we're going to wait for those. And those are due mid to late February?
No, March.
March. Okay. Yeah. All right. Kiri's got that wrong. So I thought it was March. That's why I said March? February? It wouldn't be probably, yeah.
So March for pre-cuts for Starlight Gatherings. I know that's hard to wait, but...
It'll go by then.
Yeah. I'm sure we have a few other things to sew on, right?
Yeah.
All right. So then I want to talk about another event that we have coming up February 8th, and it's called Love is All You Need.
And it's a day with us where we are going to come in, you're going to get fed some white chocolate raspberry scones and lattes.
And then we're going to have a made-from-scratch lunch and salad bar. And then we're going to work on these two projects all day long.
So you get your choice. So this is a table mat with one color, red. And then I also did, oh, I didn't do this one. Laurie did this one.
So this one is like a cool bed pillow. And this one, yeah, I stuffed, you know what I did?
I had, we didn't have this size pillow form. So I just took two of them, cut a hole in it and stuffed all the, but you know, you got to do what you got to do sometimes, right?
But it's really nice, right? Yeah. So you get your choice if you want to make the pillow or the runner for this class.
And we have a few spots, I think three left open. And then we were possibly, if we did have enough interest to run it on that Saturday as well.
So if you can't make that Tuesday, the 8th, maybe you want to let us know that you would want to do these on the 12th.
And if we have enough interest, I'd give up my Saturday for you. Pretty much every day I give up, right? All right.
So those are, love is all you need. $150 per person includes the project, the kits and all the yummies and the teaching.
Okay. All right. All right. So it says here, I got an update on Nick. Hi, Nick. I know you're watching probably from your couch.
So he says, I'm going to watch it on you on the big screen today. So he's probably really sleeping though.
He's been doing a lot of sleeping. He's doing okay. He had his first physical therapy on Monday.
He has another one tomorrow and he has his good times and bad times, but we only got in fight once so far. So not too bad, right?
Yeah. He yelled at me cause I can't hear. So it's not a, uh, it is a well-known thing that I don't hear,
but he was mumbling and I couldn't hear him and he yelled at me to go to the doctor. So I kind of left after that.
Oh my. But he's moving along nicely. It's, it's the rough part right now.
This time is a rough part, but he will be getting better and everything will be good and he will be back here.
He did come and visit cause I think he missed y'all and he wanted to make sure that you didn't think that he, uh,
fell off the face of the earth. So he did come last week and then, and then he paid for it. He was hurting that day.
So like that. He was here a long time. Are we giving away any prizes today?
How about we give away one of these and maybe we will give away the, um, that, that pretty gray quilt there.
What is that one called? Quarter mile. Let's give away a kit for that too. Yes.
So one person is going to win the book and the quarter mile kit. So keep making lots of comments. Make us laugh.
Maybe we'll pick you if you can make us laugh. All right.
So Jess will pick a winner out of the comments today.
But, um, just want to remind you that our shop telephone number 9 2 0 7 2 2 7 2 3 3.
And our email is store at primitive gatherings.us not.com.
So make a note of that. The gatherings phone number 9 2 0 7 7 8 80 31.
And one of these days I'll remember that I can't, there's too many numbers now.
I can't remember them. And the email at the gathering is the gathering at primitive gatherings.us.
So those are all our contacts.
If you want to call Jenny, come to the, um, workshop on February 8th.
We'd love to hang out with you. We are doing a workshop right now.
Oh, I know. It's so fun, right?
The girls came in this morning before the store opened and got to pick out their fabrics.
Yeah. Cause I'm like, I want you to pick your own fabric.
So it's yours, not just, it was easy. It was only two colors.
So that was fun. But I think they really had a lot of fun.
And at first they're like, oh, can you just please just pick it out for me?
And I'm like, no, you need to pick it out.
But I'll help you. I'll tell you if it's ugly.
You know, but if it's good, I'm going to tell you it's good. Right?
Great. So I'm here. I got you back, but I want you to pick.
They had fun.
Yeah. All right. So I think that's it for announcements.
Unless anybody else has anything.
Did I do good, boss? All right.
Okay. So today we're going to talk about this book, Urban Homestead Gatherings.
Now these are all brushed homespun.
And the reason why I want to talk about this book again,
I know we did a short little preview on them when they got done,
but we have all the kits done now.
Everything is here. We have fabric for backings, everything.
We're all set for anything you see that you want.
We have it. We're well stocked in it.
Book is here and we are ready to go.
So let's talk about the projects in the book.
And the first one I want to talk about is windblown. Right, Kaylee?
We're going to talk about the one when you walk into our shop in the vestibule.
I think that's what they call that.
This one is called Windblown.
And you have all the measurements and all that stuff.
Do you have kit prices and all that too? No.
All right. So if you want to buy kits or the book,
it's all on our website under the Live with Lisa button.
I think it's under New and then it shows up Live with Lisa
and the little black little penny mat icon that we use.
So all of this will be there.
Or you can just remember the name and search in the search bar.
But our search bar is kind of finicky sometimes.
If you don't have everything perfect, it doesn't find it.
So this is Windblown.
This is the number one kit that people have pre-ordered.
So this is the star of the book, according to you guys.
And it's just great.
It's just beautifully, easily made.
Big, big, big pieces put together nicely.
And I try not to do too many small things with the homespun.
And, of course, I always starch.
You don't have to, but it sure makes your life a lot easier.
Yeah. I can't imagine cutting anything and not starching it anymore.
I know, right? It's like we're over there.
Part of the class was, okay, pick out your fabric.
Now we're all starched.
Everything's starched and hanging over there.
And then this afternoon we're going to start our little wool project
called some cold winter days or something like that.
So you'll be seeing those new projects out soon too for everybody else.
So we like to run the new projects through a workshop
so we can find all the nitpickiness, you know,
if there's anything wrong with the pattern, if we have any punctuation,
if we have something.
So that's what they're doing for us.
And then we will get those out on our website as soon as they're ready to go.
All right, so back to the book.
All right, time to go on a little field trip, everyone.
So we're going to go on over here.
And this one is called Winchester.
So in the background here, we don't have to come too far,
but look at the beautiful kit that we have all packed and ready to go.
Where's my Vanna?
Contribution.
And that one is Winchester.
The one you have in your hand is Winchester.
Hook me up.
All right.
All right, we got her.
There we go.
Contribution.
There we go.
All right, so this is a big quilt for a king-size bed or queen-size bed.
And all this is is five patchwork blocks that run through a bottom,
a band near the bottom.
So when you see it in the book and in the pattern,
I was going to have that all ready for you.
So see how it runs?
It just runs through the middle.
And you can run it.
You actually could run it vertically or this way because it's kind of like,
you know, 91 by 112-ish.
So you could run it any way you wanted.
But that is Contribution.
And like I said, the kit is ready.
The guys did some feather quilting on it that really shows it off
and makes it special.
But really fun, big, big quilt with minimal piecing.
We like that sometimes.
Okay, so next on over, come on over here.
And I just want to stop right here, come back here,
and kind of show them the bolts on the shelf.
So there's all the homespuns on the shelf there.
So we have extra fabric if you need backings.
And remember, when you buy a backing with a kit, you get 20% off.
So kind of remember that, that we do do that for you.
And here's one of the things that we are going to get together pretty soon.
And do you remember these from a while back, you know,
maybe like ten years ago when everybody was appliqueing on sweatshirts?
So this is a deconstructed sweatshirt.
And Tammy has made these samples.
And there's a couple more here if Miss Vanna wants to hold them up.
So you just kind of like take apart your sweatshirt
and stitch these raw edge homespuns on.
And then the more you wash it, the more they ravel and fray and look gorgeous.
Now, the grays, like I said, we can't say too much about them.
They're just so awesome.
And I love the light one here.
This is my favorite.
I love how she did that with that.
But if you are interested in a class, if we have enough interest,
we'll do a class on this.
And the patterns are coming.
But it's kind of one of those weird patterns to write
because it depends on what kind of garment you're working with ahead of time.
All right.
So then this one here is called Quarter Mile.
This is the one that we're going to give away the kit for today.
So, okay, this is my winner.
I see that.
All right.
So here is the cute little kit for Quarter Mile.
And this is made using a Bella Solid in there with the homespuns.
So that is super cool.
Oh, wait a minute.
What does this say?
That's the book.
Oh, okay.
That's the book.
All right.
I shouldn't be reading this ahead of time.
All right.
Okay.
So you get a way to find out about what I was laughing about.
All right.
So Quarter Mile's kit, pretty little kit there.
Fun.
Can be a baby quilt.
Can be a couch quilt.
Very easy to do, just quarter square triangles.
And I'll try to find it in the book here without making too much noise.
Second one.
Second one?
Mm-hmm.
All right.
He's got bonus projects.
So here it is in the book.
That's beautiful.
Okay.
What is next?
So we're just going to come.
Oh, and there's a couple little leftover blocks when you make it.
So Lori made a cute little pillow to go along with the quilt.
I can see that on a recliner.
Quilt over the back and pillow in the seat.
All right, Miss Kaylee.
We're coming around here.
This is a layer cake quilt.
Let me find the name of it.
We should have tape on them.
Here we go.
My friend Val made this quilt when we were in Utah,
so we had to put one of these in the book.
So this is called Rewind, and this is the kit.
So you have two layer cakes that make that up and then one.
And when you make it, you cut your layer cake to 9 1⁄2
and then you put a sashing on two sides.
And then you keep doing that, and then all that's left to do at the end
is one big long one and one big side one,
and the whole thing goes together really, really fun.
So when you make your block, that's how you do it.
You just put two sides on.
And trust me, it works.
You're like, how does that work, right?
Okay, let's go back to the bed here.
This is my favorite quilt in the book.
I love this one.
And I can't remember what the name of that one is, but here it is.
Well-organized.
Well-organized, yes.
So it's the same strip, but then we put them all.
So there's four sets of strips,
and then the bottom has the piano keyboarder on the top and bottom
where we switched it going the other way.
So that one, well-organized, and I just love that quilt.
I think it's most beautiful in the book.
Now, okay, in the back here, this is a little one called Star Rider.
I remember that one.
We have a kit for that one too.
So here's the kit for Star Rider.
Just the medium grays and the dark, dark, dark grays.
I'd almost call them blacks.
But Star Rider is a 36 by 48,
so that one would make a wonderful baby quilt as well
or a wall decoration, wall quilt.
I love those too.
But this is the tile pattern in the gathering.
I don't know if you ever see me say that,
but that's in the kitchen section of the gathering.
Do you want to run around and grab the little baby quilt?
I do.
That's hanging over there.
Okay, but behind me, I'm looking for the name.
Is this the one that I called Winchester?
Yeah.
Yeah, okay.
So this one is called Winchester.
And, of course, it has my favorite Hesper triangles, right?
And big, big quilt again, 104 by 124.
Huge.
I think those are about four inches.
Nice and chunky and clunky.
Perfect guy quilt.
But I wouldn't mind this on my bed, so it's great.
Very, very fun to do and, again, easy.
We like to do the easy quilts with the homespun.
Okay, last but not least, show that baby full up.
This is another nice little baby quilt or recliner quilt.
Yes, and the more you wash them, the nicer they get.
So this one is just simple strips.
Look at that.
How cool is that?
I'm trying to find where that one is too.
It's Journey, I believe.
Huh?
Journey, I believe.
Journey?
That's a good name.
Journey.
And then we just put one of the other homespuns on the back.
But, yeah, the quilting just adds a little bit more interest to the guys.
And this isn't invisible.
They did use a gray cotton on top as well as the back.
Yeah, very nice.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
All right, so I think I made all eight of them, right?
So they're also beautiful in the store right now.
I didn't want to, like, take them down and just do a normal trunk show where we hang them all up.
I wanted you to see them in the store and how beautiful they are in the setting.
So the book, I believe, is $20?
$20.
And then all the kits are also on the website.
If you want to read a little bit more about them,
we're going to have a blog post that will air right after this.
You can read a little bit more about them there as well.
And that's about it for now.
So let me go and talk about our winners here.
Do we have anything else that we need to talk about on this live?
Got to get back to my people over in my Winter Wonderland workshop.
Do you have anything for the store?
No, I don't.
Oh, yes, we do.
I just thought of something, too.
In store only.
It's not online.
It's in store.
We have a sale going on in the back, and all the fabric is $6 a yard.
There is some beautiful fabrics that would work for backings, holidays,
stock up for next Christmas.
So, yes, please, stop in and see us.
I know that y'all can't be mad at us for not putting it online,
but when you put a fabric on sale for, you know, half price,
you can't spend all that time and energy going through your website
trying to find where they're all at.
Our POS system isn't quite up and running, but it will be someday.
So, I promise, when anything goes on sale, once we have our POS system
up and running and totally legit, you online will be able to participate
in our clearance sales.
So, I apologize for now, but come on in if you can or shop by phone.
I don't know.
Is there FaceTime here?
Here, we have this one and we have this one.
Whatever it takes, we can do.
Absolutely.
You can be creative.
I'm not going to give you any more ideas on how to do that.
Okay.
So, Tina Crooks, her husband has had bilateral hip surgery.
I feel your pain, sister.
You win the book.
Okay.
So, you're going to win the book, Urban Homestead Gatherings.
And Cindy Jopling, pretty terrific or pain and torture, PT.
That's a good one.
You're going to win the quilt kit and the book.
We're going to give you the book, too.
We're not going to give you a book or kit without the book.
So, you are the winner of Quarter Mile, and Tina, you get the book.
So, yes, great.
I'm going to have to tell Nick he's going to go to pain and torture today.
Right now, it's pain and torture.
It is.
It was really hard on him.
So, honey, I'm sorry.
You have to do it.
But remember, you wanted to do this.
It was elective.
No, I know.
He couldn't even throw the football anymore.
It will be worth it in the end.
Yes, and it's better to do it now when you're 50 and not 80, right?
Absolutely.
I think the recovery is a little bit more easy.
He can get up and out of the couch instead of having to have a bed that
moves him up.
All right.
I think that's all we have for you today.
So, thanks for hanging out with us and visiting with the Urban Homespun
Gatherings.
I know, it's always a mouthful.
I got all these things running through my mind, but, yeah.
So, we hope you like it, and we hope we can ship you some soon.
Take care, everyone.
Bye-bye.
