Finally Happened! SpaceX officially reveals Starship Refueling Hardware, Ready for Big Test…
Flight 11 is clearly the main focus when we talk about Starship and Starbase at this moment. However, it is not the only highlight. Over at the Production Site, the next chapter in Starship’s future is already taking shape. The first section of the very first Ship V3 has appeared, featuring new hardware for the orbital refilling system and several other significant improvements.
This marks a major step forward, one that will define how Starship evolves beyond Flight 11. The upgrades being introduced are not just refinements; they represent a bold leap toward the next generation of fully reusable spacecraft.
So, how impressive and important are these changes? What do they mean for the future of Starship and the goals SpaceX aims to achieve?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.

Flight 11 has once again proven that Starship is capable of achieving incredible milestones. The mission not only met its objectives but also introduced clear improvements across multiple systems. This success has laid a solid foundation for what comes next: the long-awaited debut of the new Starship version known as V3.
For quite some time, SpaceX has been teasing this next-generation variant, one that promises to fundamentally transform Starship through a wide range of design upgrades and performance enhancements. The V3 program represents a major evolution in SpaceX’s vision for full reusability, long-duration missions, and orbital refilling capability. A few months ago, we saw the first signs of this new chapter when the first V3 Booster, B18, rolled out for stacking operations.
Meanwhile, progress on the ship itself—Ship V3—has been slower to reveal itself. While we have seen various parts of this version appear at the production site over recent months, the assembly seemed to take time. However, on the morning of October 13, the long wait finally paid off. The first section of Ship S39, which includes the nosecone and the payload compartment, was spotted being moved from the Starfactory to Mega Bay 2.

This transfer had actually been hinted at before. Earlier in the week, new hardware such as a lifting jig and a payload dispenser were delivered to Mega Bay 2, and scaffolding surrounding S39 at the Starfactory was removed—both strong indications that the move was coming.
Now that the section has arrived, it is safe to say the first part of Ship V3 is truly impressive. It has exceeded expectations, both in terms of build quality and the details that hint at the new systems it will carry.
The most striking new feature lies in the payload section itself. Below the main payload door are two circular openings with protruding pipe-like extensions. If these look familiar, that is because we first saw similar designs earlier this year in May, on one of the ring sections under construction. These components are believed to be part of Starship’s future in-orbit refilling system.
