SpaceX Ramps Up Pad 1 Demolition after Starship V2 End! Ready to Catch Ship Early 2026 and…
V2 to V3.
That transformation is now in full swing at Starbase. The launch vehicle itself is the most visible sign of this evolution, but significant changes are also taking place at the launch pad. Launch Pad 1 is undergoing major upgrades and redesigns, as the old configuration can no longer meet the demands of the new generation of Starship.
These improvements mark a bold step forward for SpaceX and promise an exciting return to flight next year, or perhaps even sooner than expected.
So, how exactly is SpaceX upgrading Launch Pad 1?
Let’s find out in today’s episode of Great SpaceX.

We have shared countless memories with the original design of Launch Pad 1. From the iconic six-legged Orbital Launch Mount to the inverted water deluge system and, of course, the massive Chopsticks arms, each component has played a crucial role in SpaceX’s Starship journey. Over the course of eleven official launches and many smaller tests, this pad has stood as a witness to the evolution of Starship—from its earliest prototypes to its most recent successes. It has been a symbol of innovation, resilience, and relentless progress.
However, as SpaceX transitions from the Starship V2 era to the more advanced V3 generation, the old systems are no longer sufficient. The company has entered a new phase of development that demands major upgrades across every part of the launch infrastructure. The transformation of Pad 1 is not just an update; it is a complete reimagining designed to meet the demands of the next generation of Starship vehicles.

In fact, this process began even before the eleventh flight. One of the earliest signs of change was the removal of the damper system that supported landings from the Chopsticks arms. This signaled that SpaceX was preparing for a comprehensive redesign of the arm system itself. Shortly after that, activity at the pad intensified. Workers began venting the CO₂ tank from the deluge system area and depressurizing parts of the launch tower and the Quick Disconnect (BQD) system. These steps were likely taken to ensure a safe environment for workers to begin modifications on critical hardware.
