Thank you for joining us for our Sunday AM service at Abundant Life Family Church in Aurora, IL. We are believing you will receive encouragement, answers, and blessings as you watch and receive!
Whatever a man sows, he will also reap.
You can sow good seeds and you can sow bad seeds.
Good seeds will produce a good harvest.
Bad seeds, I mean, I know this sounds so elementary.
Bad seeds will produce a bad harvest.
It says, but he who sows to the flesh,
that is sowing to the wrong place.
Will of the flesh reap corruption.
That's a bad harvest.
Fleshly things bring a bad harvest.
And everyone, you might be thinking,
well, what is a fleshly thing?
Well, fleshly things can be,
it could even be a good thing, but in the wrong order.
Could be a wrong priority.
There's a lot of things that are not evil
in and of themselves.
But if you're neglecting the more important things,
see, then it can be a bad thing.
Nothing wrong with decorating your house.
But if you decorate your house
and you don't put first the kingdom of God,
okay, now a good thing.
We'll say, well, I won't have enough money if I put,
well, you know what, then don't decorate your house.
Do like we did when we moved into our house.
We had, I don't know if you,
how many have ever had the blinds
where you measure your window
and then you get a scissors or a knife
and you cut out the edges
and then you put the little sticky tape up
and you hold the thing
and then the little piece of paper comes down
and then they give you two little clothespins.
And so when you wake up in the morning
and you wanna look out the window,
you have to go like this and then put the clothespin
and you have to kind of get the other one,
get them equal, you know, get on, that's too low,
raise it higher, put the clothespin back on.
And at night, you just undo the clothespins.
You don't have window treatments, $2 a piece.
And we had those in our windows for a long,
you know, it looks classier than sheets, okay.
I mean, that's like, that's for like college people.
That's like for newlyweds.
Of course, now a newlyweds don't do that.
In our day, we did stuff like that.
But anyway, and then my wife learned how to sew
and made our own curtains and drapes and everything.
Because it was, you know, we were on a budget.
All right.
He who sows to the Spirit, that's good seed,
will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
Let us not grow weary while doing good.
And see, this is talking about seeds.
A man sowing a seed, a good seed or a bad seed,
to the flesh, to the Spirit.
Let us not grow weary while doing good.
What's that talking about?
While sowing seed, and not just money.
So don't be just thinking it's just money.
Your words are seed.
Your thoughts are seed.
What you hear is a seed.
What you see is a seed.
What you listen to, the music you listen to,
what you might just like, the musical part of it.
Say, well, I don't really like all the words,
but I really like the song.
Seeds, notes are not necessarily seeds.
Maybe they are, but they might move your emotions.
But they're not, I don't think there are negative notes
that are like evil.
I know some people, you know,
I mean, I know there's all kinds of music,
but you know, yeah, it could be discordant type things,
and there are all kinds of weird stuff out there.
But I mean, you know, melody and notes and chords
and all that, they're kind of more neutral.
But the words, and even, well, it's another thing,
but even the spirit of a person
can be conveyed through music.
So you could have,
I mean, you could have a song that's basically good,
and the spirit of that person
can be transmitted through that song.
And there is a demonic anointing,
and there is the holy anointing.
And it is a transference of spirits.
And if you listen to, and I won't use the word, garbage,
I won't use the word that I thought of,
you are putting seeds in you that are hurting you.
But when you, but they don't,
you don't feel the hurt when they're coming in.
It's a long-term residual effect.
It would be like taking something that's poisonous,
but you're taking such a minor dose.
But if you take it and take it and take it and take it,
it can kill you.
So verse nine, let us not grow weary while doing good
or sowing seed, for in due season, and there is a season,
and it's never, or rarely, is it what we would choose.
There is a process, but that's where you remind yourself,
in due season, we shall reap.
Now, we don't want that season to come
if we've been sowing the wrong seeds.
If you've sown the wrong seeds, and we all have,
then we need to repent, ask God to forgive us,
thank him for his mercy and for his grace,
and stop sowing those seeds and sow good seeds.
When you, you know, I think even just smiling at someone
can be a type of deceit.
Shaking someone's hand, being genuine with someone,
looking at someone, being kind, our whole life is a seed.
Our whole life, everything we do is a seed.
I mean, I'm not saying it's like what you do something,
you're planting seeds in other people
by the way you interact with other people.
You're planting either good seeds or bad seeds.
Smart aleck remarks are bad seeds.
Criticism is bad seeds.
Put downs is bad seeds.
Some, a lot of innuendo is bad seeds.
Sarcasm is bad seeds.
Do I need to go on anymore?
Some of you need to get a control
and learn how to zip the lip
and stop spewing a bunch of bad seeds
into other people's minds and hearts and emotions.
Hallelujah.
All right, let's go to, well, in due season,
we'll reap if we do not lose heart.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all.
The whole context is sowing seed.
We might think, oh, do good.
It's talking about whatever man soweth,
that shall he also reap.
God will not be mocked.
It's going to work, good or bad, you're gonna reap.
So as we have opportunity, let us sow good or do good
to all, especially to those who are of the household faith.
I mean, we're supposed to do it to nasty people.
Come on, think about it.
That is, you know, the flesh doesn't like to do that.
I mean, it's easy to bless people you like
and they bless you, you bless them.
Let's have a best bless me club.
Church should not just be a bless me club.
We need to find some nasty people
and love them and bless them out of the genuineness
of our heart because they need Jesus.
I don't care what they say to you.
Don't get in the same spirit they're in.
When they curse you, they're trying to put a bad seed on you
and then if you receive the bait, you're gonna put one,
oh yeah?
No.
When people mock you, persecute you,
say all manner of evil against you falsely,
what are you supposed to do?
Get depressed?
Well, if you're a carnal Christian, you will.
No, you're supposed to rejoice and be exceedingly glad
for great is your reward in heaven and you bless them.
You pray for them, you do good things for them.
When it's their birthday, get them a gift, remember them.
Do something that just floors them.
What happened to you to somebody that was treating you bad
when you were a nurse?
I don't remember the story.
Yeah, I want you to tell the story.
This is a tangent but it came to me
so I think this would be good.
Well, this happened on more than one occasion
so I've had experience in the workplace
and I've always been pretty bold about my faith
and this one particular job, my first job actually
at Evanston Hospital, I was working
and if I had to work on Sundays,
this is back in the day when you didn't have cable,
every television in that place
because most of our patients were not ambulatory
and they couldn't talk, I would put Jimmy Swaggart on
on Sunday morning in everyone's room.
So then there were other nurses,
not that many on Sundays in the unit
and I could hear her yelling down the hall,
who keeps putting that stupid Jimmy Swaggart on the TVs?
And I would just keep quiet, go about my business.
So anyway, she knew I was a Christian
and didn't, this particular nurse,
she didn't really like me and she wasn't very nice to me
but I remember one time they were having
a little birthday celebration for her in the break room
and the Lord just put it in my heart to buy her a gift
and so I didn't actually go into the room,
I didn't feel I was welcome, not everybody was in the room
but I left a gift for her but I could tell
I was standing outside looking in at one point
and I saw only about two people
brought her something beside me
and when she opened that gift
and saw the card that it was for me,
she just kind of like had a melt, like melted,
not, like I can't believe she did that.
It really touched her heart
because she knew she'd been so nasty.
So after that, I didn't really have any problems with her
but we didn't become friends
but I didn't have any problems with her, there you go.
See, that's sowing a good seed
instead of retaliating in kind
and you know, that is human nature
but that is, we're not, that's not who we are in Christ,
that's not Christ, that's not Christ within us
responding like that, hallelujah.
So do good to all, especially the household of faith.
Let's go to Genesis chapter eight.
We're gonna talk about the power of seeds.
Genesis chapter eight, hallelujah, praise God.
Genesis chapter eight, verse 22.
I know there are a lot of people
that don't believe the Bible.
I believe the Bible is the word of God.
It answers a lot of things.
While the earth remains,
in other words, while there is a planet Earth,
seed time and harvest, cold and heat,
winter and summer and day and night shall not cease.
To have seed time and harvest,
you cannot have an ice age and have seed time and harvest.
To have seed time and harvest,
you cannot have global warming where no crops,
where people can't be outside, where you can't live,
where nothing will survive, that is a bunch of baloney.
And I'd rather use other words that are more descriptive.
It's a bunch of garbage.
God made the earth and even though we're in a fallen state
and the earth is in a fallen state,
man is in a fallen state, we're in the last days,
the earth is gonna remain until God burns it up
and makes a new heaven and a new earth.
And doesn't mean we need to be foolish,
but if you wanna take a 10 minute shower, go ahead.
Some people are bound by all the misinformation.
We all recycle and you know only about 20% of it
actually gets recycled.
You say, why would they do that?
Well, they can charge you more.
They got more people on the union payroll,
they got more trucks out, they got more cans
and most of it's going to the same place.
But the unions, they get more money
and you feel, your conscience feels better
because I'm helping the environment.
You're really not.
Back in the 60s when we grew up,
we were really recycling without even trying to recycle
and it was built in motivation.
You could throw up, you know, kids,
people wanted you to throw bottles all over the LAY
because there'd be people out there collecting them all,
turning them in and getting money.
There's no motivation now to pick up a plastic bottle
unless you just want the place clean.
I mean, you would have the streets clean
if everything was recyclable and you could get some,
I mean, if it has some value to it,
you would have every homeless person out there all day
working, picking up stuff and turning it in
and getting money.
It's happened in the past.
I don't know that we'll ever go back there,
but anyway, just some food for thought.
So seed time and harvest right here in the book of Genesis
and some other things that it applies to.
Now let's go back to Genesis chapter one.
When God created the earth, he spoke.
Now we've been talking about faith
and we're gonna tie it in somewhat,
but we're really gonna talk about the power of seeds,
not just the power of words, the power of seeds generally.
God created the earth, he spoke things into being,
but some things he formed.
He formed man of the clay, of the earth.
And, you know, science now will verify that
because everything that's in our body is of the earth
and it will return to the earth.
I mean, if you just, we do things now in our culture,
you know, in the past they would mummify someone
or whatever, embalm some, well, now we embalm people,
but if someone died and then you just buried them,
you know, right away,
it's gonna, everything is gonna go back to the earth, right?
Everything's gonna go back to the earth.
So, mostly though, God created and he spoke.
Now, in verse 11 of Genesis one,
said God said, let the earth bring forth grass,
an herb that yields seed,
and the fruit tree that yields fruit,
according to its kind, whose seed is in itself
on the earth, and it was so,
and the earth brought forth grass,
the herb that yields seed according to its kind,
and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself,
according to its kind, God saw that it was good,
so the evening and the morning were the third day.
The plant world, and I don't know if that's the best term,
but it's a pretty elementary term, you know,
but whether it be crops, trees,
there are, the seed, God made everything to reproduce.
You ever have maple trees?
You know, maybe growing up, not as many people
have big oak trees around their property
because it takes a long time for them to grow,
so a lot of people have maple trees,
some form of maple trees,
and maple trees have a lot of seeds,
and if you ever have maple trees near your house,
and you have low gutters,
and if you don't clean your gutters,
and you have a fertile seed bed in that gutter,
my parents had a house that was abandoned for many years.
Thank God we sold it.
My dad, well, it was, until he died,
we had that house, and it was, we lived there for a while.
It was abandoned for years,
then we fixed it up and lived there,
and then when we left, it was, you know,
I wouldn't say perfect, but it was really sellable
when we moved out, I mean, really sellable.
I know my mom's watching, that's okay.
Don't worry, Mom, none of your relatives are watching,
and plus they knew anyway, so.
Anyway, the backyard, you know, it was the Cape Cod,
so the backyard, there was some trees there.
Actually, I think they were maple trees, one big one,
and so the gutter had gotten, you know,
leaves in there that, you know, they eventually decomposed,
and then one time I went over there,
because this is what, before we were, you know, moved in,
wouldn't be like that when we were living there,
because we were pasturing in Berwyn,
I went over there, and there were like,
I'm probably not exaggerating,
there were probably on that back gutter
of the back of the house, there were probably,
actually had the seeds, not just gutter full of seeds,
the seeds were in there, and they had taken root,
and probably 100 little trees were growing in the gutter.
I mean, no, I mean, I guess, you know,
we didn't try to replant them anywhere,
I mean, I just took them all out and got rid of them,
but I mean, it was just like, you put the seed in the ground
and I mean, if it gets moisture, hey, on a roof,
if it ever rains, and if it's got, and it's a shallow soil,
so it's gonna heat up, and it's probably,
I mean, it's like a hotbed.
So God created everything with the ability to reproduce.
See, we don't, how many here planted tomatoes this year?
I know a few people did, okay.
All right, now, how many of you planted them by seeds,
and how many of you bought a plant?
How many bought a plant when you did it?
Okay, anyone plant the seeds?
Okay, you planted the seeds, okay.
You can do that, and so obviously you did it,
and those tomatoes, I ate a lot of them this year,
I think I ate more tomatoes this year,
thank you, Susan Shields,
than maybe the last 10 years of my life.
Of course, I'm on a special,
I've lost 40 pounds since Thanksgiving.
But anyway, so those tomatoes were really,
nothing like a vine-ripe tomato.
But anyway, it kind of proves my point,
it's more work to plant a seed, and take care of it,
and to bring the crop to fruition,
than buying it where someone already did that,
and already got it to a point where
it's a lot harder to kill, not saying you can't,
but I mean, it's already,
the beginning is the establishment phase,
and then once you get it in the ground,
and you begin to water it,
especially if you fertilize the soil,
or put some new topsoil in there, or whatever,
and water it, and put it where it gets enough sun,
it's going to grow.
But if you just throw seeds out,
how many have ever had a bare spot in your lawn,
and you throw, and maybe even you,
you might just rough it up with a rake,
throw some seed in there,
or maybe you even put a little topsoil over it,
and you water it, and you water it.
I've done that a lot, and you know,
half the time, it doesn't work.
Why?
Well, is it the seed?
It's not the seed.
Well, some of it could be the birds taking it.
Some of it is, you don't have any fertilizer,
and it's hard to get started,
or you don't water it enough.
I mean, there could be multiple reasons.
And so, it's more than just planting the seed.
I mean, you have to plant the seed to have a harvest.
But just because you plant the seed,
now God will not be mocked,
but there is a process.
And everything, now in the old days,
most of us, because we don't live off the land,
anyone every year, you can.
I don't think we have a church of canning people.
I don't think anyone here can.
Maybe you've done it in the past, you know?
But in the, yeah, my wife did it for a year, too.
We bought all the paraphernalia,
you know, cases of cans, and lids, and all that stuff,
and we did it for like half a year, maybe.
Anyway, well, I'd rather just go to the store
and buy a can there.
But anyway, in the past, if we,
if our society, if we all of a sudden,
if the power grid was destroyed,
and there was no electricity,
our society, I mean, there's always exceptions.
There's already preppers, and, you know, survivalists.
But I mean, most people, especially in your city,
but even if you're in, I mean, even where we're at,
and I'm not trying to get you to be a prepper, okay?
But we could not function.
First off, no cell phones, no computers,
no electricity, no heat.
I mean, because you need, you know,
even if you have gas heat, you need a blower.
I mean, it would just change life,
and then a big house would be,
then you'd be better off to just have a little cabin
with a fireplace and a bunch of wood.
I mean, we don't think of things like that,
but God made things where most of human history,
people could, if you had just one apple tree,
if you're lazy, 10 years later, you got one apple tree.
If you're smart, 10 years later, you have an apple orchard,
because you don't have to go and buy the seeds.
You can reproduce yourself.
Now, with all the hybrid stuff, and all the seedless stuff,
because it's man playing around with things,
and hey, I like seedless grapes,
so I'm not against seedless things,
but they've taken out, because it makes them more money,
they've taken out the ability, with a lot of things,
to just, once you fill the barrel up and use the seed,
then you can keep multiplying, and multiplying,
and multiplying, and multiplying,
but with the way it's set up now,
you gotta still, every year,
you gotta go out and buy a bunch of seeds.
But that's not the way God intended it.
God intended mankind to live by sowing and reaping
in every realm of life.
That's a good quote, TV ministry.
All right, let's go to, let's go to Matthew 13.
Matthew 13, hallelujah, thank you, Father.
I'm gonna do it today, Matthew 13.
As a matter of fact, I'm gonna put the principles of faith
into operation right now.
In the name of Jesus, and you can call me a liar
if I don't do this, I'm going to stop,
and then I'm not gonna just stop
and then say something else.
I might just stop and have my wife come up here
and take the microphone.
I'm gonna preach less than an hour.
It might be one second less than an hour,
but I'm putting a limit on it, okay?
And I got a clock that doesn't lie.
Yeah, don't look at it too much.
We're not quite halfway there yet, hallelujah.
It's a good thing, because I know.
The mind of man can only receive
what the seed of man can endure, all right?
Or something like that, I don't know.
All right, where did I tell you to turn?
Matthew, Matthew 13, 31.
Come on, where are you, Matt?
Looking for Matt, Matthew 13.
I thought I marked it.
Maybe I didn't.
All right, Matthew chapter 13.
All right, verse, oh, come on, where is it?
I might have to start using readers here.
No, I don't want to wear purple.
Matt, I think I got the wrong reference.
Matthew 13, what did I say, 31?
Yeah, okay, for some reason,
I can't believe I don't have it marked.
Okay, well, another parable he put forth to them,
saying, the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed.
Or we could say it, now, of course,
a mustard seed is really small.
Anyone ever seen a mustard seed?
I mean, it's a little, it's like a little black,
little, yeah, a really small seed.
I planted a bag of grass seeds recently,
and the particular grass seed is very, very, very small.
Very small, I mean, it's just like so,
it almost seems, really seems smaller than a mustard seed.
But he said, the kingdom of God is like a mustard seed.
But really, you could say, it's like a seed.
God has set up the earth based on seed, time, and harvest.
He set up the kingdom of God based on seed, time, and harvest.
He set us up with seed, time, and harvest,
even going to work, and see, a lot of people might think,
because you're thinking just about giving.
Going to a restaurant is seed, time, and harvest.
I'll explain it in a minute.
Going to work is seed, time, and harvest.
Taking your car to the mechanic is seed, time, harvest.
Having the heating and air conditioning guy
come and work on your thing is seed, time, and harvest.
You call them up, my air conditioner
or my heater doesn't work, they send someone out.
They sow a seed of fixing your unit,
putting a part in it, using their know-how,
working on it, and then guess what?
You pay them, and they get a harvest on the seed they sow.
You go to a restaurant, they sow a seed to you,
but then you give them a harvest.
They might give you a beautiful atmosphere,
comfortable seating, soft music, great service,
beautiful food, nice presentation, reasonable to high price,
and you're willing to pay it because it's excellent,
it's wonderful, so they have sown that seed to you,
and if they do a really good job of sowing that seed,
they will make a lot of money.
If they do a bad job, they might go out of business,
because they're giving you,
they're not giving you their best seed,
they're giving you kind of, well, it's good enough,
if they send it back, well, we'll fix it,
but maybe if they take it, we'll just leave it
because we don't want to waste it,
put another whatever on the barbie, right?
Everything, it's about seed time and harvest.
It's about seed time and harvest.
Excellence goes a long way, it's a seed.
Attitude is a seed.
Promptness is a seed.
You can just, just everything is a seed.
We had someone, I said my wife and I have retired
from painting ceilings over 10 feet tall.
We're still, for now, painting other ceilings,
or ceilings or walls or rooms,
but we've decided the entryway and family room,
we're not painting it again.
So we hired somebody, and we're really particular,
we've hired professional painters
that have good recommendations,
and we were hired and we're thinking,
you know, we should have just painted it ourselves.
Why?
Because if they don't do as good a job as we do,
now, we are picky, we're particular,
but this painter did a great job,
and I was just, you know, sure, you have to pay, why?
Because they're seeding of their time and their skill,
and, but it frees up our time,
and then we give them a harvest to recompense them
for the seed of time and skill that they have sown.
And it was, I mean, I just, I'm not a super,
I don't wanna say complimentary person,
but when something's really done,
I mean, I just kept saying to myself and my wife,
oh, I really like it, I'm so glad we did it.
What a good deal, I mean, it was just awesome.
Why?
Because they did a good job.
They did it quickly, and I'm not getting hung up,
well, we paid this much and they only spent this many hours.
I've done it myself, and you know what?
I don't care how, you go fast as long as it's good.
As long as it's good, I'm not gonna get hung up
on how much you make per hour.
You understand what I'm saying?
Anyway, all right, let's go to Mark chapter four.
Mark chapter four, are you getting anything out of this?
I know a lot of this is review.
It's things that we've heard,
but we are taking in seeds
that we shouldn't be taking into our lives.
Some people have friends
that are nothing but a bad seed sowing machine.
Virtually everything they say is not true,
or is not godly, is not positive, is not encouraging,
and it's not, people like that are not helping you.
I'm not saying you have to have a bunch of perfect friends,
nobody's perfect, but sometimes when you first get saved,
and even if you've been saved a long time,
you can be cordial to your friends, and loving, and kind,
but a Christian ought not to have a best friend,
or best friends, even if you've known each other for years,
or decades, that are carnal,
that are holding you down,
and sowing a bunch of junk into your life.
I'm not saying we don't have any contact
with unsaved people, because we need to reach people,
and I'm not saying you can't put up with stuff,
I mean, I worked in the secular world before,
and I've been around all kinds of,
you know, all the stuff that most of you are around.
People mocking you, people cussing, swearing,
you know, you name it, it's out there.
Yeah, you just, you can't let it get to you,
because you gotta just stay full,
and you're not isolated, but you're insulated
from the effects of it, if you're full,
and you use your faith.
Yeah, I mean, it's not the greatest environment,
but if you're in an environment
where people are cussing a lot,
you know, and usually in the professional world,
it's not as bad, but there again,
in this day and age we live in,
some people, they don't even, they're unaware of it.
They're just unaware of it, it's just so automatic.
Why, because it's just in them.
You know, let me give you a little secret
on how to maybe change that
without totally offending somebody.
First, I'll tell you how not to do it.
Don't tell someone, don't talk like that in my presence.
Don't tell them that.
Just when someone curses a little bit,
then you just praise the Lord and say,
thank you, Jesus, glory to God!
And then when they curse again, you say, hallelujah!
Then they say another word a little later,
you know, maybe 15 minutes later, glory, praise God!
And then they might look at you,
what in the, you know, are you doing?
And then you say, glory to God,
and say, well, do you really wanna know?
And then they're thinking, what is up with this person?
Because, you know, let's be real.
Very few people do that.
Like, probably no one you know.
Say, well, then people think I'm a nut.
So?
All you're just saying, you know what?
You can speak the way, however you want in front of me.
It's not really gonna bother me.
But if you can curse and curse God,
use God's name in vain, and use other things
that I don't appreciate, that's your right.
But I have a right to praise God.
So whenever you talk the way you like to talk, fine.
Then God's gonna get equal time.
And you know what?
I'm not saying it works every time.
You're giving, what are you doing?
You're giving them a seed to think about.
And they might, some people will actually say,
they may just, of their own accord, tone it down.
Now, there's always the exceptions.
And you know what?
You just smile, enjoy your life,
and don't let it get to you.
You know, guys, I haven't really talked
about persecution for a long time.
But persecution means, in most cases,
that you're doing something right.
You let your light shine.
Don't be holier than thou.
Don't be judgmental.
Don't be rude.
Don't be smart aleck.
Just be real.
I've worked in, you know, I mean,
I haven't been a pastor my whole life.
And I mean, I've worked in factories.
I've worked on construction sites.
I've worked in offices.
And I've dealt with all kinds of people.
Business owners, wealthy people,
all the way down to the lowest level.
You know, and when I was a young Christian,
I mean, I would witness a lot.
But then there was a point in time
where I was dealing, I wasn't dealing correctly
with harassment and persecution
and mocking and things like that.
And then as I got a little more mature,
I really mastered it, where nothing,
I don't care if the whole place is against you,
it didn't faze me.
It didn't faze me.
And you know, God wants us to get to that point.
Matter of fact, when that kind of thing's happening,
you're very aware that you are there.
Yeah, you're there to, you know,
get a paycheck and to do something.
But you are there as a witness.
That is really more your primary thing than the other.
Anyway.
Hallelujah.
All right, Mark chapter four is verses one.
We're not gonna read all this.
We don't have time.
Let's see.
Verses one through 20 is the parable of the sower.
But we're gonna just look at the explanation.
You can read the whole thing on your own.
The sower went out to sow the word.
That's the, you know, the beginning part.
Well, if we start looking at the explanation,
after he told this parable,
and then at the end, verse nine of Mark one,
Jesus said, he who has an ear to hear, let him hear.
In other words, Jesus is sowing seed to them.
But what he's also saying is,
not everyone's gonna receive the seed.
But when he was alone, those around him with the 12,
so it wasn't just the 12, it was kind of the inner circle.
The closer followers, the people who stayed around
to help clean up, people who did the work,
people who were carrying the load, when the crowds left.
When he was alone, those around him with the 12
asked him about the parable.
And he said to them, to you it has been given
to know the mystery of the kingdom of God,
but to those who are outside, all things come in parables.
Anyway, then he goes on to say,
and he said to them, verse 13,
do you not understand this parable?
How then will you understand the parables, all the parables?
I think it was Kenneth Copeland said years ago,
this is the granddaddy of all parables.
Jesus did teach a lot in parables.
Now a parable is a hypothetical scenario or story,
whereas some of the things that Jesus told,
everything was in a parable.
Some things he said there was a certain man.
Okay, that's not a parable, that's a true statement.
This is like giving someone else's life experience.
Say, well, you know, you shouldn't use experience,
but Jesus did.
If the experience lines up with the word,
it's fine to use experience.
We just don't put experience over the word.
Anyway, to the sower, he said,
if you don't understand this parable,
in essence, you're not gonna understand any of the parables.
Why?
Because this is the way God has set up his kingdom.
Says the sower sows the word.
Before it said the sower went out to sow, you know,
to sow seed.
The word is seed.
We didn't do it today, but sometimes we'll say,
this is my Bible, I am what it says I am,
I have what it says I am, I can do what it says I can do.
Today I'll be talking, the word of God,
I boldly confess my mind is the Lord,
my heart is the preceptor.
I'm about to receive the seed of the word of God,
the ever-living seed of the word of God.
Ever-living seed of the word of God
will always produce if you don't vile,
you know, with the proper conditions,
which is within your control.
The seed will always produce if you take care of it,
if you plant it, if you water it,
if you tend to it, if you water it some more,
if you pull the weeds out, if you fertilize it,
and you water it, and you tend it,
and you cultivate it, and you just keep doing that.
You keep the bugs off of it.
It will always produce.
There could be bad seed naturally,
but the word of God will always produce.
Just like creation, the seed is in itself,
like of a certain tree, an orange tree, an apple tree,
a lemon tree, an apricot tree, an oak tree, a maple tree.
I mean, you just go on, and on, and on, right?
Seed, it's just everywhere.
And I mean, it blows, it falls,
you know, little animals carry it to different places,
and if it gets planted, and the conditions are right,
even without man.
