Join me for a full day of thrifting and estate sale shopping in Seattle, Washington, as I explore some truly fascinating vintage treasures and unique antiques! Our first stop is a tucked-away collector’s bungalow estate sale in Maple Ridge. This stop features beautiful pieces of Weller Tutone pottery, Hull Continental, and other early 20th-century ceramics, linens, furnishings and barware. A long-time friend is running this sale, and she teaches us a useful tip for dating linens! Whether you're a collector or just love vintage décor, this estate sale had some true gems.
Throughout the day, I share buying strategies, commentary on condition, market insights, and fun interactions with fellow collectors—like reconnecting with Gretchen, a one-woman estate sale powerhouse whose background in theater makes her setups shine!
From there, I head over to Deseret Industries in Shoreline, WA, a thrift store operated by the Mormon Church. There, I browse through an impressively large mix of home goods, collectibles, vintage barware, Italian silverplate and Japanese beaded ceramics. We dive deep in our knowledge banks to separate vintage and nostalgia items from just plain used stuff, with commentary on pricing trends and resale value that any antique enthusiast will appreciate.
Next up is a trip to the Goodwill in Shoreline, another location with a surprisingly well-organized and diverse selection. I check out vintage lamps, '50s and '60s chrome furniture, unique jewelry, and intriguing mid-century homewares. This Goodwill’s got all the categories from jewelry to furniture, well organized by attentive staff who make it a surprisingly good thrift store with things for resellers and casual shoppers alike! We buy a variety of items, from a discounted 1980s chrome table and Coalport India Tree to Lenox China and a 1930s elegant glass pitcher with a mysterious past, and take delight that Goodwill stores like this still exist.
Whether you're a fellow dealer, a thrifting newbie, or simply love the charm of old objects, there’s something here for you to enjoy, learn from, and maybe even hunt for in your own town! We’re glad you could come with us on our vintage thrifting day.
