One of the Most Emotional Matches in Women's Volleyball History. In this incredible volleyball match, we had the chance to see two great teams: the Thailand Volleyball Team and the USA Volleyball Team.
USA led 2-0, and it seemed like they were on their way to winning the match.
Then came an incredible fight from Volleyball Team Thailand. They managed to win the third set, cutting the lead to 2-1.
The fourth set brought one of the most emotional moments in Thailand Volleyball history. One of their best players, Ajcharaporn Kongyot, suffered an injury and had to leave the court.
Despite this setback, Thailand won the fourth set, pushing the match to a decisive fifth set.
Thailand fought with all their strength to secure victory despite their weakened lineup, but unfortunately, they fell short. USA performed better in the fifth set and claimed the win.
Nevertheless, this match will be remembered as a testament to how hard the Thailand Volleyball Team fights for every point, no matter who is on the other side of the net.
Oh, what a big backcourt attack from Aicharaporn Konyan.
18-18, the ties aren't done yet.
She ruffled Robinson in the backcourt with that right hand.
It's a huge tally from the number 18, up to 16 points.
Larson helps it into the lights.
Humped up over the net, off the top of the block.
Saved by Bart Shackley. Robinson to Murphy to help it over.
Across to the far side, Aicharaporn Konyan stopped this time.
Lloyd to Robinson to Murphy on top of the net.
Off the top of the block and saved on the baseline.
Aicharaporn Konyan back down the line.
Robinson, Larson, Murphy to hit it once more.
Running into the net, she keeps it up though.
And has somehow hamped it over to be on the baseline.
Fantastic volleyball.
Thailand ahead 19-18.
Relentless in trying to rekindle their flame.
Murphy stopped on the block.
They kept it alive.
Murphy.
Tipped over the top, recovered, helped up by Adams.
The U.S. on the ropes a little bit here.
Towards this near side, Malatar-Canton.
Back into an open area.
In the backcourt, Thailand by two.
To the delight of their fans.
From four down against the reigning world champions.
Malatar-Canton, looping one.
Six for her.
Lloyd to set.
Tipped over by Larson who had to stretch.
Against the block and down it is.
21-18.
They're four points away from forcing a fourth.
It seems so, so unlikely.
Even earlier in this set.
That they would do anything but lose this 1-3-0.
Another U.S. timeout to come.
The stroke of good fortune.
Jade Park delivering over.
Larson delivering back and long.
And nothing is dropping for the U.S. now.
When everything seemed to over the first two sets.
A four point Thailand lead.
And they're only three points away.
Murphy to try and steady them.
Kelly Murphy not quite as lethal as she has been in previous appearances at this tournament.
That's seven points for her now.
They have served back for the first time in a while with Larson.
Set right on top of the net though.
The blocker there, Adams.
Now Charaporn to force it over.
The U.S. can try and set right on top.
Lloyd ran into a teammate.
Murphy hacks it back.
Now Charaporn Kongyat helps it over.
Lloyd can set again.
Over the top of Adams.
And in behind comes Bartch-Hackley.
Back to back points for the U.S.A.
To half the deficit.
Back down to two.
Bartch-Hackley up to 16.
And we're going to have a tie.
Remains on serve.
Set to a Charaporn Kongyat for the score.
She continues to hit the reigning champs hard.
Eighteen points for the number 18.
A three-point tie lead.
And they only need two more.
City rack in for Pinyapong.
Mallikar Canton to serve.
Lloyd to set.
Bartch-Hackley to score.
That's more typical of the U.S.
The serve reception right back to Carly Lloyd
in that perfect area to pick out so many options.
Bartch-Hackley on so many occasions has...
It's a good reception.
Touched over the top.
Three of them diving for it.
One of them got there,
but they'd all committed themselves
and there was nobody left to recover.
Three set points for Thailand.
Lloyd to Bartch-Hackley off the block.
A chance for Thailand to set.
And the rejection from Bartch-Hackley on the far side
saves the first of those three set points.
A Charaporn Kongyat,
the leading scorer in the game,
shut down.
But for how long?
She's on 19 points.
Kept alive by Wailawang.
Lloyd a big chance to set.
Akinwadowo stopped though in the backcourt.
Couldn't pick her spot.
Helped up by Murphy.
Lloyd to set from deep to Bartch-Hackley.
Thailand to set from deep as well.
A Pinyapong stopped.
Lloyd the back serve.
Akinwadowo.
Back-to-back US points.
Back in touch.
One more set point to save.
The USA back in their ferocious full flow.
It's a good serve.
It's well fielded too.
The under-10 get out to score.
They've done it.
Thailand digging deep.
They keep that one up as well.
Off the big hit of Akinwadowo.
The USA will come again.
Bartch-Hackley off the block.
Kept alive.
Brilliantly.
But there's an injury concern here.
Surely not.
A Charaporn Kongyat.
Their superstar
tonight.
Suffering an injury.
After their leading scorer
Pimpichaya Kokram
suffered a similar looking injury yesterday.
Landing and rolling the ankle.
It does not look good.
And that's what happened
to Pimpichaya Kokram
only 24 hours ago.
Star scorers
against the world champions
in this position.
Now Charaporn Kongyat
shedding a tear.
I think she knows
that her race is run.
Is the race run yet
for Thailand?
They still have the lead.
Where are the points
going to come from though?
He's now run home.
On the city rack.
Thailand lead by two.
2018
against all the odds.
Once more
23-21
off the back of the time out.
Two points away
from taking it to a fifth.
Leomjit Tinkhal
so quiet early on.
Red hot now.
13 for her.
Nguyen Tran back in
for Moksri.
Loy to set.
I can't deny
despite that giant leap.
Here she comes again.
Still can't find a way through.
Over the top
to the back door.
Third time lucky perhaps
instead to Barchakli.
Remarkable save
kept alive on the near side
by Gepard
out over the top.
Barchakli to Dre again.
Thailand just refused
to budge.
And they get the point
to Mallika
Magic
on the far side.
Thailand unbreachable
even by the very best.
World champions
denied by world class defence.
Three set points.
That was going to drop in
they had to field it.
Mallika
does that go out
it does.
The threadbare Thais
have battled back
from two sets down
against the world champions
to level.
Their two leading scorers
injured
but they still found a way
That has to be
the set of the tournament.
It's gone through Robinson.
Larsen helped it across
to Hill.
And Hill found
the far side
that's why she's the
MVP.
A huge moment
in this fifth set
of the difficult
pass across to her.
And back within two.
The USA are only
five points away
from winning it though.
No matter what happens
down the stretch
Thailand will overtake
or at least
keep themselves ahead
of Azerbaijan
for third place
as they move on
to seven points
in the standings.
Azerbaijan have six
USA have nine
and would move to
eleven
if they could
see this lead through.
Still a long way to go yet.
Hill
off the top
and out of bounds
just it was
really well left
by the defence.
Thailand keep
on ticking.
And they keep
the scoreboard ticking
to take them
even closer.
Back level here
in the fifth.
It's the first serve
into the net
in what seems like
an eternity.
The right hand
of the teenager
you have to feel
for her.
Chatuan Moksri.
Jammed inside
of the block
by Wailuwana Pinyapong
when they didn't
seem room.
Against the blockers
back against
the top of the net.
Fine, fine margins
in this fine,
fine game.
Nurek Jangov
Nguyen Jamov
Back to back
Thai serves
into the net.
Not at all
what they were looking for.
The USA only need
three more.
It's a scratch
your head moment.
Will they
be made to rue
those two serves
you wonder.
It's the baseline
it did.
An ace for the USA
showing Thailand
how it's done
on serves.
They're only two points
away now
and surely this is
too much for even
this Thai team
to recover.
13-10.
Well
you really do
have to feel
for her
wondering what
might have been.
Is that going to be
the collective thought
of this Thai team?
Oh, found a way
to skim the net
and fly over.
Hill
recovers.
Dug out by
Panoy brilliantly.
And the US block
is there.
Akinranawa alongside
Lloyd.
Sarah Wilhite
on serve
to see the US
over the line
once and for all.
Touched over the block
recovered by Larson.
Drill from the back
by the MVP.
A world championship
classic.
Volleyball at its best
here in Kobe.
Thailand
remarkable to come
from two sets down
to tie against the
reigning world champions.
A Thai typhoon
that hit them hard.
They forced a fifth
but it was too much
to overcome.
