Hello and good morning. We are back here at the tennis court and we are going to be relearning
the downtown because I know that from watching my video last time it wasn't looking very good
and somebody commented and told me to try the dirty school of skate video and so that's what
we're going to be doing today. We're going to be trying the dirty school of skate video
for learning the downtown. So let's do this. So the first thing that we're running through
are just the steps. So cross in front, cross behind, and then scoot scoot.
Pump pump. I don't know. So cross in front, cross behind, pump pump, cross in front,
cross behind. Okay so that's what we're going to be trying first is just getting the steps down
is what it looks like. So let's try that. So I think I'm pretty good at the crossing over.
Uh pretty good meaning like 80 percent. I'm 80 percent good. I can't always get like my skates
like completely flat on there. Like sometimes they end up like a little tilted. I don't know.
I don't know if that's okay or not but most of the time I think they're pretty good. So I can
basically do that and then they were saying do the push push part so I'll practice that now.
That might be a good thing in addition to crossing over, crossing under. A lot of times when we use
the word push I think that ends up being where people interpret it as push.
No no keep going like you're learning how to skate backwards and you start rolling and you
just put on the brakes. Okay this is revolutionary to me. She said start pigeon-toed because the first
step is backwards. You know I really thought the whole thing was just traveling forward
or like just in place kind of gliding. Yeah did not know that. Let's continue.
What if the direction you want to travel being at an angle right so you're gonna go five six
seven eight you're gonna go down and then you can cross put your feet in a V position.
Okay we are halfway through the video like eight minutes in and she goes she has her feet
in the A frame she says and then she like pushes and there's some sort of
motion going this way and then she's going this way. Whoa.
You would never think that there's so much motion going on in this
one move but there's a lot of things happening. I don't know if I can keep it straight.
There's so many things. It's gonna take a lot of practice. I'm okay with that. Practice is good.
Practice is good. Bird okay you're gonna put your feet like this down and then you can cross
put your feet in a V position then you can go under and then you can back in it.
I already feel like I've learned so much. I have to practice that part.
She's like she's like A and then she's pushing and this foot goes around and then we're going
like crossing over and then V and then that foot goes behind. I think let's try that.
I honestly feel like that was pretty good. I feel like that was the start of
that was the start of something really great. That was the start.
How's it looking? I think it's looking way better than me just going
boom boom boom boom boom. I was actually doing something cool there. There's something
something good going on. Now I have to do it going the opposite direction.
I'm not ready for this. I think she's about to say that I need to practice this a million times
though. I don't know. A thousand times. Oh and a million. Okay yes. A thousand's not enough.
Kind of getting it. So I didn't like that last one because my feet were like forward the whole
time and I need to be making V's and A's. This is very hard. Very complicated. It's
but I am kind of getting it I guess. Gonna keep practicing.
That one? I think that one was better. I just kind of turned my brain off and just let it happen.
I think that was a better one. I think these have been getting better because there was a
caterpillar that I was trying to miss and it's kind of moved with it and it's kind of moved
out of range now so I'm not worried about hitting it anymore. So that has also improved my downtown.
Nope that foot needed to be pointed this way. Okay so I think I'm starting to get it down
but now here's where the problem is. I start out going backwards and then I'm kind of moving
sideways and then I start to move forwards again. There's going to be a problem when I start to try
and move forward or backwards and I don't know how I'm going to fix it.
But for right now I think I am getting the A, V, A,
kind of like that. I think I'm kind of getting that down. So that is good. I'm going to keep
that part down enough to continue I hope. That's so funny she just went over the whole like A
cross V under A and I'm like that's exactly what I was telling myself in my head. I'm getting this.
The last part she said was to add some heavy push going this way and some style.
I'm not ready for the style yet but I will practice pushing hard to like make it really
move side to side because what I figured out was that she said it's like going side to side
is the goal. It's not like a front to back sort of thing it seems like. So we're gonna try and
push hard and move more to the side and just put in more effort into the movement
instead of just the steps. I forgot what I was doing now. I have to relearn it.
She also said to focus on keeping your arms kind of like down to the side
but I naturally go like this because gymnastics.
So I should focus on keeping my arms down a little bit more.
Man I know what else Dirty Deb would say. I know she would tell me
that I'm looking down the whole time and that I should not be looking down
because it makes your feet self-conscious.
So I need to focus on looking up too. So I'll look up and I'll keep my arms down while I'm
flow. More confidence. Okay a couple more tries. See if I can really get this down.
I'm gonna try making it bigger. Making it take up more space. I think that was pretty good for
today. I think that was just way better than the other day. Just like a thousand times better. Like
I was creating momentum today and so that was really cool. So thank you so much to the person
who commented that I needed to use that video because that video was really helpful and thank
you so much to Dirty Deb and the Dirty School of Skate for making super helpful videos like that
and I'll see you guys tomorrow. Bye!
