Is it hard for you to speak Spanish even if you already know a lot of words and grammar?
I also went through that because I was making a mistake that almost all of us make.
So in this video we are going to talk about how to avoid this mistake
and I'm going to show you a super easy and effective method to improve your fluency in Spanish
using what you already know.
To explain this mistake that makes it so difficult to have conversations in Spanish
let me ask you a question.
If you were an actor, would you practice your lines at home before filming?
Of course you would practice before, but when it comes to learning Spanish
many people do just the opposite.
They memorize rules and vocabulary and write and do exercises and listen a lot
but they only speak to other people.
Where many times we feel pressure because we want to speak well, we want to speak fast
and we want to understand everything.
So what can you do to practice speaking without stress?
So that you feel more relaxed, more comfortable in your next conversation.
I have a method that I shared in my newsletter a few weeks ago
that helped many Spanish students, so I wanted to share it here today.
With this method, which I call the loop method, you are going to put into practice what you already know
and you are going to discover new ways to express yourself without pressure.
The first step is very simple.
It is to choose a content in Spanish to see, hear or read.
It has to be something that really interests you.
My students have used topics like birdwatching, trips anywhere, weight training, among other things.
The second step is to generate questions about the content.
I say generate because you are going to copy the text or transcription
and you are going to paste it into a free artificial intelligence.
Then you are going to ask something like, read this text and ask me questions about this topic.
Or ask me questions to help me express my opinion on this topic.
If you don't know how to do it very well, if you don't handle technology very well, don't worry.
In the link in the description you have a step-by-step guide.
The third step is to choose the question you like the most and write your answer.
You are not going to speak yet.
To start, you are going to write and you can use lists, vignettes or full paragraphs or a mixture of the two, whatever you want.
Do not give answers of two or three words.
Really think about it and give a very complete answer.
If you have more time, you can answer more questions.
The fourth step is to answer the same questions in a loud voice.
It is very important that you do not read what you wrote.
Writing was to help you organize your ideas, to think about what you wanted to say
and not get so stuck when trying to speak.
Now the idea is that you try to speak in a more or less spontaneous way.
Try to speak for three minutes to start.
And what happens if you get to a word or an expression that you don't know how to say?
Don't stop, that's the most important thing.
Just write down the word or the expression, write it down to look for it later.
For now, try not to focus too much on that word.
Try to express what you want to say with other words.
For example, what is the most interesting bird for you?
I think the most interesting bird is the toucan.
Because it has some...
And suddenly I get to the word wings and I don't know how to say wings in Spanish.
So I just look for another way, even if it's very ugly or not very beautiful to say it.
I can say, the little arms he uses to fly look very nice.
And then I can answer again using the word wings.
This of not focusing so much on an unknown word
helps you not to translate everything from English.
And to look for other ways to express yourself when you can't think of the perfect word.
Which happens a lot.
The fifth step is to close the loop.
Returning to the original content.
I always like to do this.
Now that you have consumed the content,
you have written your answer and you have spoken,
read again, listen or see the original content.
This reinforces the vocabulary and the structures you have just learned or practiced.
To put all this into practice right now, download the step-by-step guide in the link below.
But what happens if after all this, you still feel that you get stuck when you speak?
Well, the answer is in this video here
that gives you 5 tricks that professional speakers use
to speak in a more articulated and more fluid way.
